Kahil Gibran

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, "Speak to us of Children."

And he said:

Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you,

And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts.

For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.

For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.

Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;

For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.

It seems ashame those who treasured Gibran's poems for all these years have not listened to his wisdom. All life is sacred and unrepeatably unique!

I appreciate you standing up to those in our country that trivialize and deny the murder of babies through abortion. You have stood for truth and will be attacked by many for it. I pray for you and your efforts. Thank you for contesting the statement from Tiller's associate...there is no comparison.

Dr. King, we are in agreement on the need to tell the world what we are for. I have written in the past about the successes of adult stem cell research, and the generosity we show toward people at all stages of development. That hasn't prevented the press or the liberal establishment from continuing to tell the same old lies about us. This is why I choose not only to affirm the good, but to confront sin and call it by its name.

I believe that we as Christians have an obligation, as your uncle so eloquently put it, to be a thermostat rather than a thermometer when it comes to matters of conscience. If we are not the moral conscience of the society, then who will be?

Thank you for everything you do for the pro-life movement and for the cause of Christ. I greatly admire you!

Dr. King,
I am a frequent visitor to Priests for Life and I have admired you for your stand against abortion as well as your dedication to encouraging forgiveness among the races as we realize that we are all God's children. Indeed, America has many sins...we can see every day what the destruction of our moral foundation is doing to our society and we all share some of the blame. We must search our own hearts and ask God to cleanse with forgiveness and grace for we are all saved only by the mighty grace of our Lord. The letter by Reverand Thomas strikes to the heart of our fears and concern for our nation. How can we expect God to bless our nation when we treat the unborn with such callous disregard? I believe the blood of these children is on all our hands if we do not stand up against this outrage. We must come together, whatever our race or religion and defend humanity to one another or our society will continue to spiral into the depths of destruction. As you have mentioned, America has many sins and we know that God hates sin period, whatever it is. I am neither Catholic or African-American but that is irrelevant because I agree with what you and Reverand Thomas are saying because we share our humanity and were created by God to do His work together. I know that racism still exists in some hearts but as a defender and supporter of LIFE, I am concerned with the rights of that child whether it is African-American, white, Asian etc....God knows that baby in the womb and NO ONE has the right to deprive God's creation of LIFE....God help us to realize that we must stand up for injustice wherever we see it or we are not worthy of God's forgiveness and grace. As Rev. Thomas mentioned, President Obama's administration is promoting many policies that are contrary to Biblical principles however, he does not have a Christian background so can we expect that he and his administration are going to base any of their policies from a moral perspective? I don't know the answers to this dilemma except that we continue to pray for divine intervention. Aside from the economic policies and foreign affairs issues that are looming over us, I believe the racial, abortion and homosexual issues will ultimately be our downfall if we do not come to forgiveness and seek God's face as a nation. As we know, the conservative movement in this country is under assault from so many directions, the main stream media, the entertainment industry, the organized homosexual and abortion groups, the indoctrination of our schools with these philosophies so we have tremendous obstacles to overcome. If we believe the Bible, we know where all this is leading but we must do what we can do as citizens to stand up for what is right. That will take working together so we are looking to you and our leaders we respect for guidance and leadership. I pray God will bless you as you seek to be an instrument of His peace. Thank you for all you do.

In reading Ms King's reference to Maya Angelou's powerful words, it made me think that maybe we are missing many opportunities to draw parallels between words and events that we encounter in the wider world and the silent mute expression which we can only imagine of the millions of unborn individuals that die by the abortionist's hand. For myself, every day is an opportunity to look at the world with eyes open to the effects of the missing persons of a death by abortion. Phrases such as "culture of death" have become familiar to those of us that fear the changes taking place in our society that accords "civil rights" to only those with the loudest voices. But, there are consequences taking place every day in all of our lives that we need to recognize, speak and write about that will confirm this poverty of reason and faith that has left us the silent majority in today's marketplace of ideas. I am so grateful to Ms King for taking the reins of the chariot carrying our exquisite African American babies into their destiny!
