Dr. Alveda King Calls for Pro-Life Economic Recovery

Atlanta, GA – Dr. Alveda King, Director of African American Outreach for Priests for Life and Founder of King for America, today called on Congress to bear in mind unborn babies when trying to fix the economy.

“Any meaningful economic recovery act undertaken by Congress must strive for a pro-life economic recovery,” said Dr. King. “For too long, too many of our officials have acted as though man lives by bread alone, ignoring the moral dimension of their economic policies. That time is over.”

“Families, including our unborn children, must be given consideration. For starters, that means no more funding of abortion, directly or indirectly, with taxpayer money,” added Dr. King. “And for those lawmakers who care only about the economy, they must ask themselves before enacting legislation or appropriating funds, ‘Will this act encourage the birth or the termination of the next generation who will have to pay for all the debt we’ve incurred?’”

“The economic choice now is not guns or butter, but abortion or diapers. Do we invest in the ‘womb war’ or the life affirming position of families procreating?” concluded Dr. King.

Alveda needs your help!

Friends, I need your help this morning! Call in to Local radio stations across America, especially those popular with young listners and gospel stations. Call the African American Radio talk show hosts. Email them too! Blog about this please! They are saying that I am against Rev. Al Sharpton’s March. I’m not. I am simply speaking at another Rally. Glenn Beck invited me to his Rally. Rev. Sharpton did not invite me to his March. Glenn booked the Lincoln Memorial for his Rally long before Rev. Sharpton even announced his March. If the Lincoln Memorial was so important for Rev. Sharpton, why didn’t he book it before Glenn did? I didn’t say that my Uncle, Dr. King would not go to Rev. Shaprton’s March. What I said is that Martin Luther King, Jr. would like to see unity tomorrow, and that even when we disagree with someone, we must have faith, hope and love for a better tomorrow. I am speaking at the Glenn Beck Rally about faith, hope, love and honor. The NAACP and some other African Americans are saying that Alveda King is hijacking the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr. I am saying that as Dr. King’s blood relative, I have a dream, it’s in my genes. How can I hijack myself?

Pro-Abortion Blacks Attack Heir to King Legacy: Alveda King Calls for Boycott

In an appeal to America to boycott the abortion industry, Dr. Alveda King, daughter of Reverend A. D. King and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. responded to the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Rights press conference when she said: “It is absolutely ludicrous that abortion supporters would accuse a blood relative of Dr. King of hijacking the King legacy. Uncle Martin and my father, Rev. A. D. King were blood brothers. How can I hijack something that belongs to me? I am an heir to the King Family legacy.”

“I have a right to stand at the Lincoln Memorial on the 47th Anniversary of my Uncle’s “I Have A Dream” speech. The Dream has yet to be realized. That Dream is in my genes and I carry forward in the fight for equality and justice for all blacks, including those in the womb. My dad and my uncle gave their lives to ensure that the day would come when blacks would be judged not by the color of their skin, but the content of their character. If they were here, I know they would stand with me in this fight for the lives of those most vulnerable among us”.

Other African American leaders are joining Alveda in calling for a boycott of the abortion industry.

These people call us the religious right–that’s okay because they are our complete opposite…they are the religious wrong! Which begs the question…what God–if any do they serve?” asked Day Gardner, President of the National Black Pro-Life Union. As for me, I serve the God of Abraham, Jacob and Isaac–the great I am…Father of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and all things created. Those of us who serve the one true God acknowledge we are all made in his image. We bow to God’s Word when He says: “Blessed is the fruit of the womb.” If God says children are ‘a reward’, ‘a gift’ and our ‘heritage’, then we must uphold that all children are greatly valuable and desirable to God. So, as I asked before…what God do they serve?”

“More and more of Black Americans understand the eugenic agenda of Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers to control the black birth rate through abortion. And because we understand, we are standing with Alveda King in solidarity, continuing the fight for black life from its earliest beginnings, said Catherine Davis, founding member of the black prolife movement. I grew up understanding that the King family fought for my right to equality, even as they fought, bled and died for my right to life, free of government sanctioned lynching, restraints, and KKK threats. To believe that they would now stand for the destruction of life in the womb, screams against the legacy these great men left for us all.”

“I will stand with Alveda King because she is courageous enough to follow in her uncle’s and father’s footsteps,” said Gardner. The travesty of abortion–especially in the black community is the greatest ‘civil rights’ battle of our time and we must overcome it–we shall overcome it.”

“I have a dream, it is in my genes and I ask all America to stand with me on 8/28 at the Lincoln Memorial and thereafter by boycotting America’s abortion industry,” said Dr. King.

Black Leaders to Join Glenn Beck in DC

A group of African American Leaders will stand with Glenn Beck and David Barton in Washington, DC for the 8/28 Rally. Yours truly, Alveda King will be there. We will speak of faith, hope and love, honor of God, our families and our neighbors. Unlike those quoted in the release below, who are still fighting for the right to murder womb babies, we will be promoting human dignity for the human family. This group of Black leaders standing with Beck support good education for all children, procreative reproductive health, jobs and fair housing for everyone, good nutrition for everyone, and of course procreative marriage and life for womb babies. We honor our military, our teachers, our health care providers, and care for all the least of these, no matter what color they are! As Glenn Beck has been saying on his show, we are one human race, not separate races! Please pray that people will have the courage to stand up for truth!

The “Religious Right” billboard campaign claiming African American children are an “endangered species” and Alveda King’s comparison of anti-abortion activists to “Freedom Riders” have sparked outrage in the African American community. Disparaging clinics that provide abortion, birth control and reproductive health services is harmful to communities struggling with high rates of unintended pregnancy, teen births and HIV/AIDS, insulting to the intelligence and values of African Americans, and offensive to women who make conscientious moral decisions about pregnancy.

“Right to Life” and other right-wing organizations started this irresponsible and offensive campaign to make inroads into African American communities to promote their own agenda – to ultimately overturn Roe v. Wade. The Black community has repeatedly rejected the “Religious Right” anti-abortion movement, realizing that if it were concerned about the health and welfare of Black children, it would support education, health care, economic security, affordable housing, and the other resources that families need.

The Babies Need the Dream

It is no coincidence that Dr. King’s name is Martin Luther. In 1521 Martin Luther took a stand like Dr. King did in 1963. And they both, in essence, said, “God help me!” As they both stood up and spoke up for those who could not speak for themselves, I wonder if Dr. King gave his “I Have a Dream” address in 2008, he might say:

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for life in the history of our nation.

144 years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand signed the Emancipation Proclamation. But 144 years later, the life of the unborn child is still sadly crippled by the manacles and chains of abortion.

So we have come here today to dramatize an appalling condition.

In a sense we have come to our nation’s capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men and women would be guaranteed the inalienable right of life.

It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her unborn citizens are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the unborn child a bad check which has come back “insufficient funds.” So we have come to cash this check–a check that will give us upon demand the riches of life and the security of justice. Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God’s children!

It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment and to underestimate the determination of the unborn child. 2007 is not an end, but a beginning. There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the unborn child is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice for the unborn child emerges.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.”

I have a dream that all children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by their location inside their mother’s womb, but by the content of their character.

This is our hope. This is our faith. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up and speak up for life and freedom together, knowing that we will be alive and free one day.

And if America is to be a great nation this must become true. When we let life and freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all God’s children, born and unborn, black and white, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, “Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”

Glenn Beck’s 8/28 Restoring Honor Rally

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy, like the Lincoln Memorial itself, belongs to all Americans. I am participating in Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor Rally not to advance any political agenda, but to advance the concept of honor in our nation.

The Book of Proverbs teaches that before honor comes humility. The Restoring Honor Rally has been organized for the purpose of giving honor to those who have humbled themselves to serve each and every one of us by defending our great country, for honoring our heroes, our heritage and our future. If our soldiers don’t deserve honor, I don’t know who does.

My Uncle Martin did not say that we should judge men by their support for bigger or smaller government, but rather by the content of their character. That is what I intend to address on August 28.

Speaking of Rev. Al Sharpton’s “Reclaim the Dream” march the same day, Rachel Noerdlinger, a spokesperson for the National Action Network, said, “[t]he reason it is going to be at Dunbar High School is because Rev. Sharpton said education is the civil rights issue of the 21st century.”

In the 21st century there are many civil rights issues facing our nation: education, marriage rights, the right to life, the right to abort, the right to die, capital punishment, racial profiling, injustice in the judiciary, child pornography, freedom of information, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, gay rights, women’s rights, and a host of others. And although education is an important civil rights issue, life is the most central issue of all. Without the protection of life, one never gets a chance to seek any other civil rights.

The character of a nation can be seen in how they treat their most vulnerable citizens. I cannot see any member of our society more vulnerable than those in the womb who cannot speak out. In America we are killing our most vulnerable. What does that say of our character? In a nation where more people consider themselves pro-life than pro-abortion, this should not be the case.

On August 28 we honor our soldiers that are fighting to defend our country, our honor and our character. The right to life is the most important civil rights issue of the 21st century and the protection of this right will show our true character and would make my Uncle Martin proud.

Great Pro-Life Documentary About Abortion

I wanted to let you know about a wonderful Pro-Life documentary film by Producer/ Director David Kyle entitled Bloodmoney: The Business of Abortion. In it he really captures the truth about what the abortion industry is all about and the effects it has had on women. As he recently wrote, “[o]ur problem is that films like 12th [and Delaware] get public exposure and films with a pro-life message can’t or it is very hard to get.” I believe that liberal big players with lots of money back pro-abortion filmmakers while pro-life filmmakers have to rely on the truth and public support. Unfortunately, people don’t like to talk about abortion and many times they don’t want to hear the truth. In the end we already know who will win the battle but I would like to help the process along so we can accomplish the goal of ending abortion sooner.

Bloodmoney will be showing at the Pickwick Theater in Park Ridge, IL (Chicago area) starting August 27th thru September 2nd. Films with little exposure have a hard time getting into the big theatre chains. Public requests can sometimes help so if you would like to see this movie in your town, call your local movie theatre and ask them if they are going to be showing the movie. With enough calls they will bring it to your town. Another option would be to have a private screening in your community through your church, organization, or group. This would also be a great fundraiser for your pro-life group.

We Speak For The Unborn

EMILY’s List, a pro-abortion rights group, launched an Internet campaign on Tuesday called “Sarah Doesn’t Speak for Me.” The campaign is in response to former Gov. Sarah Palin’s endorsements of “Mama Grizzly” pro-life candidates.

We in the pro-life movement do not purport to speak for any other woman, pro-life or pro-choice. We are here to speak for the unborn who don’t have a voice of their own. If they could talk, we wouldn’t have to be talking for them. You would hear them say, “Please mommy, don’t kill me” or “Please Dr. _____, don’t kill me.” But since they can’t speak, we speak for them.

“EMILY’s List is running scared — and it shows,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser in a statement. “Clearly, in this ‘Year of the Pro-Life Woman,’ which Sarah Palin helped make possible, women have found their political voices. Pro-life ‘Mama Grizzlies’ represent the majority of women across the country.”

Really? No Tax Dollars To Fund Abortions?

A report from LifeNews.com states that, “The U.S. Inspector General for the Department of Health and Human Services has uncovered a consistent problem with New Jersey-based family planning clinics run by the Planned Parenthood abortion business. They were found to be improperly billing Medicaid for services that did not qualify as family planning.”

This in not uncommon. Doctors in my own home state of GA are doing it, too. There are probably doctors in your state that are also billing some, if not all, abortion charges to Medicaid. Some schedule an abortion over a two day period and bill Medicaid for the physical and the blood work on the first day and then they perform the abortion on the second day. This is called ‘unbundling the charges.’ These doctors are so brazen that some even charge the mother and then bill Medicaid. And we’re told that no taxpayer dollars go to fund abortions. That is just not true. The last time I looked, my tax dollars were being used to fund Medicaid.

Lawmakers and those that are supposed to uphold the law need to hear from everyone. We need to let them know that Americans will not stand for this. They tell us that no taxpayer dollars go to fund abortions and we need to hold them to that.
