40 Days for Life

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

I’d like to share an email I recieved from Shawn Carney at 40 Days for Life:

Let’s not kid ourselves. Women are the heart and soul of the pro-life movement.

My wife got me involved by taking me out to pray at Planned Parenthood way back when we were dating. David Bereit, our national director, also got involved in pro-life work through the example of his wife.

This week, the call for more men to stand and pray came from one of the local 40 Days for Life coordinators after a bully got vocal with a woman who was praying at the vigil.

This is just one example of how important it is for men to get more involved in the campaign — and what a difference it can make when men decide to man-up and take Christ to the front lines of our culture war.

So thanks to all the men who are taking part in 40 Days for Life! (And the women too, of course!!!)

Oh, by the way — today is the day everyone gets to be Irish. Congratulations!

WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS

One volunteer in Worcester got involved in 40 Days for
Life after his wife asked him to pray.

He’d always been pro-life, he said, but “I have always
kept my mouth shut.” After all, he’s a guy, and we’re
always told that abortion is a “women’s issue.”

Then he visited the 40 Days for Life web site and did
a lot of reading. “I cried more than once,” he said,
“for the unborn, for their moms and for my inactivity
in the past. I asked God to forgive me for being silent
these last 40 years. I was wrong to keep quiet. I will
not be quiet any longer.”

This volunteer now has a plan. “I am going to fast as
often as I physically can,” he said. “I will pray every
day. I will ask others to pray.”

Thanks, he said, “to you all for standing up, speaking
up and doing something positive for the little ones.”

FORT COLLINS, COLORADO
——————————————————-

This is the first 40 Days for Life campaign in Fort
Collins, and new volunteers are excited to have the
opportunity to pray for an end to abortion.

“No matter how many rude gestures and remarks we got,
we also received waves of support, honks of approval,
even a friendly hello from a mom who slowed down enough
for her two toddlers to see us,” said Maria, one of the
vigil participants.

“It was truly a rewarding evening, knowing we have made
an impact.”

Speaking of men joining the campaign, a local Knights
of Columbus council prayed together at the Fort Collins
vigil. I can’t say enough about the Knights and the
strong, faithful support they continue to show for
40 Days for Life!

Haylee, the 40 Days for Life coordinator in Anchorage,
says she has a couple of items guaranteed to motivate
you even further.

One young man stood and prayed at the vigil for seven
hours. “And some of that time he was all alone,” she
said. “That shows determination and commitment!”

Then there was a team of men who covered midnight to
7 a.m. “The temperature fell to -4 and yet they stayed
out there praying to God and putting action to their
beliefs,” Haylee said. “Praise the Lord!”

Today’s devotional is from Carmen Pate, a member of
the 40 Days for Life board of directors.

——————————————————
DAY 9 INTENTION
——————————————————

Pray that the post-abortive woman would be repentant,
accept forgiveness, be healed and restored, and bring
glory to God with her new life.

——————————————————
SCRIPTURE
——————————————————

I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have
not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions
to the Lord,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

– Psalm 32:5

——————————————————
REFLECTION by Carmen Pate, 40 Days for Life
——————————————————

Because abortion is legal in America, many have
justified their choice. “If it’s legal, it can’t be
wrong, right?”

We now have an entire generation of men and women who
have never known abortion to be illegal; a generation
of people who have never been broken over their sin of
abortion.

As a result, the consequences of unconfessed sin weigh
on their souls, yet they have never connected the dots
as to why their hearts are heavy. No wonder we have
millions of women who are struggling with depression,
addictions, eating disorders and more.

Post abortion syndrome is very real but recovery
begins when the individual agrees with God as David
confessed in Psalm 51:3-4, 14, “Against You, You only,
have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight –
that You may be found just when You speak, and
blameless when you Judge. Deliver me from the guilt of
bloodshed, O God, the God of my salvation.”

Brokenness is the key to accessing God’s glorious
mercy and healing. Christ came to heal the broken
hearted and He is waiting with open arms to take the
post-abortive woman on a glorious journey of healing
and restoration if she will only run to Him.

God will not waste any sin we lay at His feet. Imagine
millions of healed and restored post-abortive women
like myself singing aloud of His righteousness and
giving testimony of His love and forgiveness.

What a day of rejoicing that will be!

——————————————————
PRAYER
——————————————————

Heavenly Father, we have turned our backs on you and
your principles in your Word. We have allowed man to
usurp Your role as God over life and the number of our
days.

But we come to you in brokenness and repentance over
our sin.

We cry out for Your mercy and ask you to remove the
scourge of abortion from our land. Use us as your
vessels, Lord, to bring the light of Your Truth to our
nation once again. Because of Christ we pray, Amen.

Play “The Grace Card” and not the Race Card – because inside “we are all the same!”

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

Wow! My friend DB told me to go and see the movie THE GRACE CARD, a must see. He was so right! Wow! From the beginning throughout, it was poignant, compelling, telling, enlightening, soul stirring, and I haven’t told you yet how I really feel about the movie (smile).

I won’t give the plot away, because you really need to see the movie. I will mention that my Uncle M. L. (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) was quoted in the movie. From childhood, I grew up knowing that there is only one race on the planet, the “human” race. By Dad, A. D. and Uncle M. L. taught about the “World House” where a “Beloved Community” lived together in agape lovea and peace. The World House is right there in THE GRACE CARD. Please go and see it.

Once again, Christian movie makers have proven that people will go to the theaters to see wholesome movies! FACING THE GIANTS, FIREPROOF, and now GRACE CARD are the most recent on the list of must sees. Coming next is COURAGEOUS, make sure you see that too. Also, there are so many more, including those that are addressing the life issue.

Support these movies. Take your friends and family and your church and the whole neighborhood.

Fr. Pavone Salutes Kalitta MedFlight, Heroes in the Flight of Baby Joseph to St. Louis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Staten Island, NY – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today praised Kalitta MedFlight of Ypsilanti, Michigan, for its key role in flying Baby Joseph Maraachli from a Toronto hospital to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center in St. Louis.

“The flight of Baby Joseph to St. Louis for medical treatment was carried out by Kalitta MedFlight,” said Fr. Pavone. “Kalitta MedFlight came to us when they heard about Baby Joseph, and offered to help. We worked with them on the details, and were ready to pay for all the expenses. Then, on top of their courteous and professional service, they also told us that they would not charge for their services, which included not only a fully equipped Learjet, but also a Critical Care Pediatric Transport Team to ensure Baby Joseph’s safe transfer.”

“There are many people to thank in this collaborative effort, but Kalitta MedFlight stepped up early on with its generous offer of highest quality transport care,” added Fr. Pavone. “The people at Kalitta MedFlight are heroes in this story.”

Baby Joseph Maraachli, the one-year-old was refused a tracheotomy by a hospital near his Canadian home. He was flown in a specially equipped plane Sunday night to St. Louis where doctors will assess and treat him.

STATEN ISLAND, NY — The Priests for Life home page has become Baby Joseph Central.

Those who are following the incredible journey of this little boy from Canada can find out all the latest information by visiting www.priestsforlife.org.

The plight of the child whose continued care was declared futile by his doctors in London, Ontario, has captured the hearts of Americans and attracted the attention of the media on both sides of the border. The Priests for Life home page has become an aggregator for news about Baby Joseph, who arrived at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo., late Sunday night.

The boy’s father, Moe Maraachli, has described his son’s journey as a miracle — but prayers are still needed.

Pray for Baby Joseph and his family.

Pray for the physicians at Cardinal Glennon.

Pray that Baby Joseph’s story will touch the hearts of millions so that the Culture of Life can prevail over those who argue that a person whose life is deemed inconvenient has no right to life.

Pray as if our lives depend on it: They do.

Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life Leads Covert Mission to Rescue Baby Joseph

Monday, March 14th, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: March 13, 2011

Contact: Jerry Horn, 540-220-0095
Leslie Palma, 732-757-9087

STATEN ISLAND — Under cover of darkness, Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, arrived in Ontario, Canada, Sunday night to rescue Baby Joseph Maraachli from the London Health Sciences Centre. For two weeks, doctors at the hospital in London, Ontario, have been delaying the baby’s transfer to a hospital where efforts to save his life will not be officially labeled “futile.”

“I knew, after this dragged on day after day, that I needed to be here myself to get Baby Joseph to safety,” said Father Pavone. “He needs to be in a hospital that cherishes life over the bottom line. After around-the-clock negotiations, this really became a race against time.” Father Pavone was accompanied by Priests for Life staff, who were there to assure the transfer proceeded smoothly.

Baby Joseph and his father, Moe Maraachli, were flown with Father Pavone to SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo., on a specially equipped air ambulance provided by Michigan-based Kalitta Charters, and sponsored and paid for by the New York City-based Priests for Life.

“If there is a chance this boy can live, we have to explore every option,” said Father Pavone, who was to arrive back home in New York earlier today after weekend speaking engagements in Cleveland. Instead, he flew to Detroit and then on to Canada, vowing not to leave the country until he had Baby Joseph and his father with him.

“Priests for Life staff toiled through the night for many nights, working in concert with dozens of people to make this possible,” Father Pavone said of the nighttime rescue mission. “Now that we have won the battle against the medical bureaucracy in Canada, the real work of saving Baby Joseph can begin.”

Father Pavone said Baby Joseph’s transfer was accomplished through the efforts of a number of people, including his parents; family spokesman Sam Sansalone; family attorney Claudio Martini; Bobby Schindler of the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Dr. Martin McCaffrey, a neonatologist at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Medical School; the Rev. Pat Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition in Washington, D.C., and attorney CeCe Heil from the American Center for Law and Justice, also in D.C. Father Frank also thanked the many other Canadian pro-life groups and individuals who have been consistent and heroic in their advocacy for Baby Joseph and for all the vulnerable.

“We are united across national boundaries to continue to work together for a Culture of Life,” Father Pavone said.

SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center opened in 1956 and was named in memory of Cardinal John Glennon, Archbishop of St. Louis from 1903 until his death in 1946. The hospital was a fulfillment of Cardinal Glennon’s vision of a health-care facility open to all children in need of medical care. The hospital is part of SSM Healthcare, which is run by the Franciscan Sisters of Mary. The system has 19 acute-care hospitals in Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin and Oklahoma.

Pro-Life Reflection for March 10, 2011

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

An excerpt from the book, “Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day’ by Father Frank Pavone

Some people slanderously accuse us of proposing, “Let us do evil so that good may result.” Romans 3:8

Reflection. When we do choose evil, not only does that have consequences on the outside, but it changes us on the inside as well. The same is true when we do good.

The battle for life is one that we conduct only by choosing good. We can never destroy or kill in the name of life.

Prayer. Lord, how deep is the darkness and how great the chaos when we think that the end justifies the means. Protect us from trying to justify evil for good intentions.

Natalie Portman Takes Heat Over the Most Important Role of Her Life

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

Natalie Portman received the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in “Black Swan”. During her speech she thanked her fiancé for giving her the most important role of her life, motherhood. Since she made that comment, she had been slammed by liberals for putting motherhood above her career in level of importance.

As LifeNews.com reports, “To hear the members of the liberal Hollywood elite tell it, actress Natalie Portman committed the ultimate sin last night at the Oscars when she took the stage to accept the Academy Award as best actress” and then “a visibly pregnant Portman thanked Millepied for giving her “the most important role of my life.””

We agree with Ms. Portman, motherhood is an important role in life. Her public expression of the joy of being a mother and choosing life rather than aborting her baby, as so many do, in favor of her career is refreshing .

New Series – The Catholic View for Women – to Premiere on EWTN

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: March 9, 2011

Contact: Andre Kim
888-735-3448, ext. 296

Staten Island, NY – A new era in women’s programming begins Friday, March 11 with the debut episode of The Catholic View for Women. Designed as an authentic Catholic alternative to secular discussion shows, the show is aiming for today’s active, involved women.

“As hard as it apparently is for most television shows to realize, the view of millions of women goes beyond the mirror – it even goes beyond Manhattan,” says Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life, co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, and co-host of The Catholic View for Women. “We will be talking about the real world where real women face real issues.”

In addition to Janet, co-hosts of the six-episode miniseries are Teresa Tomeo, host of the Catholic Connection show on EWTN Global Catholic Radio, and Astrid Bennett Gutierrez, Executive Director of Los Angeles Pregnancy Services.
“On The Catholic View for Women our feminism will fully embrace life, not self, and our makeovers will start at the foot of the cross, not 5th Avenue,” said Teresa Tomeo.

“Anyone tired of the same old view should tune in and give us a look. You’re going to like what you see,” added Astrid Bennett Guitierrez.

Shows will air Fridays at 6:30 pm Eastern on EWTN starting March 11 and will be repeated on Saturdays at 3:00 am. To learn more about the show, link to it on Facebook, and send viewer feedback and ideas, visit www.TheCatholicViewforWomen.com.

Lenten Pro-life Prayer: Cuaresma – Oración Pro-Vida

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

As we begin Lent tomorrow, we ask you to join us in praying the Lenten Pro-Life Prayer from March 9 thru April 21, 2011

Father of all mercy,
We thank you for this season of grace and light.
We know that sin has blinded us.
Draw us ever closer to you, in prayer and penance.

Since you, O God, are light itself,
Give all your people a clearer understanding
Of what is sin, and what is virtue.

Grant in particular that we may see, as never before,
The profound dignity of every human life,
Including the vulnerable unborn children.

Give us grace to defend
Our brothers and sisters in the womb
By our prayers, our words,
And our self-sacrificing actions.

We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
