Ann Coulter Should Cast Out Her Own Demons Before Finding the Mote in MLK’s Eye…

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

“And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” – Matthew 7:3

In her new book, DEMONIC: HOW THE LIBERAL MOB IS ENDANGERING AMERICA, Ms. Coulter calls Bull Conner a lame-duck lunatic and takes pride in pointing out that Justice Thurgood Marshall considered Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to be an opportunist and rabble rouser. If Dr. King were here today, he would likely remind us that in God’s eyes, we are all worth something, and he would encourage us to love each other and pray for each other, rather than choose the path of disparagement that Ms. Coulter uses. God doesn’t consider anyone pointless or worthless. Jesus shed his blood for Bull Connor and for Ms. Coulter. Universal agape love seeks to reach and transform the human heart. Ms. Coulter’s apparent contempt for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is perhaps linked to lack of understanding of the man and his message.

Here are but a few quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: Nothing about them suggests mob mentality or evil intent.

“Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.”

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

“Cowardice asks the question, ‘Is it safe?’ Expediency asks the question, ‘Is it politic?’ But conscience asks the question, ‘Is it right?’ And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but because conscience tells one it is right.”

“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”

In fact MLK espoused nonviolence and made all his volunteers sign an affirmation to be non-violent.

SIX PRINCIPLES OF NONVIOLENCE – Fundamental tenets of Dr. King’s philosophy of nonviolence described in his first book, Stride Toward Freedom. The six principles include:

(1.) Nonviolence is not passive, but requires courage;
(2.) Nonviolence seeks reconciliation, not defeat of an adversary;
(3.) Nonviolent action is directed at eliminating evil, not destroying an evil-doer;
(4.) A willingness to accept suffering for the cause, if necessary, but never to inflict it;
(5.) A rejection of hatred, animosity or violence of the spirit, as well as refusal to commit physical violence; and
(6.) Faith that justice will prevail.

The third principle speaks of ‘eliminating evil’ and the fourth of ‘never to inflict [suffering]’. This does not sound like the mob exciter Ann Coulter speaks of.

According to Ms. Coulter, Justice Marshall called Dr. King a boy. For the record, Martin Luther King, Jr. was not a boy, and such an inference and insult to the purpose of an African American man’s mission from a Caucasian woman again points to a disregard of the zeal of youth. Many young people are willing to give their lives for a noble cause.

Justice Marshall perhaps disagreed with Dr. King’s method and message, but as is often the case, people disagree. “If” is a big word. Ms. Coulter states that “if” Nixon had been elected over President Kennedy, we would now have Thurgood Marshall Day rather than Martin Luther King Day. For the record, we do have a King Holiday and memorials in King’s honor. Sour grapes set our teeth on edge and cause us to consider the message and the messenger.

America is still a relatively “free speech” nation. Hopefully Ms. Coulter’s audience will look also beyond her narrowly presented scope in search of deeper truths.

Fr. Pavone on Kevorkian: ‘We must bear one another’s burdens’

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

Date: June 3, 2011

Contact: Andre Kim

Staten Island, NY – Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement today about the death of Dr. Jack Kevorkian.

“All of us at Priests for Life pray for the soul of Jack Kevorkian, as we do for all who have died. And we renew our commitment to proclaim that life is better than death. Every life has burdens. When we respond to the call to bear one another’s burdens, then we close the door to despair. Those who promote the so-called ‘right to die’ are heralds of despair. We, on the other hand, are heralds of hope.

“And as for the ‘right to die,” I say, ‘Don’t worry – you won’t miss out on it.’ “

Federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator implies: Keep killing babies or we will cut your budget? Another unbelievable outrage!

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

On May 12, 2011 I blogged a congratulations to Governor Mitch Daniels, the State of Indiana and Judge Tanya Walton Pratt for standing form for life and passing and upholding a state law to defund Planned Parenthood in Indiana.

It sure didn’t take long for the federal government to jump in and threaten to cut off Medicaid funding for Indiana if they decide to enforce the new law.

First the federal government forces tax payers to pay for abortions with our tax dollars and now they are going to force states to continue to fund Planned Parenthood.

In a recent POLITICO article by Sarah Kliff she wrote, “Indiana plans to defy an Obama administration letter and continue barring Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funding — a move that, if continued, could cost the state more than $4 billion in Medicaid funds.” According to a letter sent by Donald Berwick, the administrator of the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

In other words, continue to use your state tax dollars to fund Planned Parenthood or we will cut off $4 billion in Medicaid funds to your state.

According to Kliff’s article, “The letter came alongside new CMS guidance that specifically bars states from excluding abortion providers from their Medicaid programs.

“Medicaid programs may not exclude qualified health care providers — whether an individual provider, a physician group, an outpatient clinic or a hospital — from providing services under the program because they separately provide abortion services,” Center for Medicaid Director Cindy Mann wrote in the memo.

Federal regulations already bar public funding of abortion except in cases of rape, incest or to save the health or life of the mother. The Medicaid funds that Planned Parenthood of Indiana received were used for family planning services.”

It has been pointed out many times by multiple pro-life leaders, myself included, that providing Planned Parenthood with funds for “family planning services” amounts to the same thing as paying for abortion services. Planned Parenthood unbundles abortions services in order for Medicaid to pay for some of the visits. Additionally, the federal funds they receive help pay the doctor, nurses, office staff,, the utilities, the construction costs of abortion facilities. Nobody with half a brain can say that our tax-dollars are not paying for abortion services.

Other states have taken the lead from Indiana in supporting laws that would defund Planned Parenthood in their perspective states. Since the federal government won’t do the right thing the states are trying to step up to the plate and do what’s morally right. Now they too will have to fear the federal government wielding their big threatening stick to force them to continue to fund the largest abortion provider in America.

And what does Planned Parenthood have to say about Berwick’s actions?

“By issuing a letter to the state of Indiana rejecting its proposal to bar Planned Parenthood from providing preventive health care through Medicaid, HHS is sending a clear message that states cannot play politics with women’s health and prevent Medicaid patients from choosing their preferred health care providers,” says Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards. “The HHS letter is a strong rebuke to Indiana and serves as a warning to other states that attempts to bar federal funding for Planned Parenthood violate Medicaid law.”

If Cecile Richards is so proud of what Planned Parenthood does, why won’t she debate Abby Johnson? Abby was employed by Planned Parenthood for eight years, was the Director of a Texas Planned Parenthood clinic for part of that time, Planned Parenthood employee of the year in 2008, and author of the book unPlanned.

Clearly Planned Parenthood has powerful people in high places helping them stay in business. But we have someone in a much higher place that will bring the Golitiah abortion business down in His time.

Jesus, we trust in You!

Espíritu Santo,
En la aurora de la creación,
Tú pusiste orden en medio del caos,
luz en la oscuridad,
vida en la nada.

Sopla sobre nosotros otra vez
Y cambia la cultura de la muerte
En Cultura de la Vida.

Inspira en tu pueblo
un espíritu de generosa acogida
sin importar cuán inesperada o dependiente
esa vida pueda ser.

Espíritu Santo,
Tú eres el Abogado.
Al llenarnos de Ti,
Haznos abogados
De los no nacidos y de los vulnerables,

Hasta que estemos todos juntos
En la vida de gozo sin fin
Del Padre, del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo
Un Dios, por siempre y para siempre. Amén.
