WASHINGTON, D.C. – A letter bearing a pro-life message was among the items placed in a time capsule put together as part of the dedication of the Martin Luther King Memorial.

Naomi Ruth Barber King, the widow of civil rights strategist Rev. A. D. King and sister-in-law of Martin Luther King, included a copy of “The Beloved Community” letter, as she and other family members gathered Saturday, Oct. 15, at the construction site. The memorial was dedicated the following day.

The letter, written for the celebration of Martin Luther King Day this past January, urges his followers to include the unborn in the ongoing fight for civil rights.

“As our nation pauses to recommit itself to fulfilling the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,” the letter begins, “we invite our fellow citizens to reflect on how that dream touches every human life. Dr. King taught that justice and equality need to be as wide-reaching as humanity itself. Nobody can be excluded from the Beloved Community. He taught that ‘injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ ”

Among the signatories are Mrs. King; Dr. Alveda King, director of African-American Outreach for Priests for Life and founder of King for America; Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life; Rev. Derek King, nephew of Martin Luther King; Gloria Jackson, the great-granddaughter of Booker T. Washington, and Lynn Jackson, great-great-granddaughter of Dred Scott.

“Over the years, many pro-abortion leaders and organizations have claimed that Uncle Martin was pro-choice, but that is just not true,” Dr. Alveda King said. “He was a champion of the sanctity of life, and he included the unborn among those whose civil rights he fought and died for.”

Father Pavone said, “The new Dr. King Memorial will inspire many to give their lives for the dream as he did. In our day, that means giving our lives to restore equal protection to our unborn brothers and sisters.”

Mrs. King also included in the time capsule a copy of the book, “How Can the Dream Survive” by Dr. Alveda King, and a copy of the video “Metamorphosis,” about the life cycle of the butterfly. Mrs. King is known as the “Butterfly Queen.” http://www.adkingfoundation.com/home/aboutnaomi.html

President Obama was invited to include copies of two of his speeches in the time capsule, which will be unearthed in the future.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, and the entire pastoral team of its various ministries, welcomed today the news of the appointment of Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano as papal nuncio to the United States.

“Archbishop Vigano will receive a warm welcome from the Church in the United States, as well as from the various associations, such as our own, who advance the work of the Church in union with the Holy Father,” Father Pavone said. “In particular, the pro-life movement looks forward to working with the new Nuncio, as we seek to build a Culture of Life. Christians of every denomination will find encouragement through the words and sentiments of the Holy Father that will be conveyed on various occasions by the Nuncio.”

Referring to next year’s Presidential election, Father Pavone said, “The Nuncio has indicated that, in relation to the upcoming elections, he will consult with the bishops and learn from them. We also look forward to the fruitful interaction between the Nuncio and the many organizations, associations, and movements that work to promote political responsibility among the faithful in the United States, and to do so in such a way that is free from unwarranted and crippling fears that take refuge in misrepresentations, often found at the diocesan level, of what the law says Churches may or may not do regarding elections.”

God’s Name Not Written on MLK Memorial Stones a Missed Opportunity Says Dr. Alveda King

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 18, 2011

Contact: Eugene Vigil
Phone: 757-593-9982

ATLANTA, GA – Dr. Alveda C. King, Founder of King for America commented today on the newly dedicated MLK Memorial Site. The MLK quotes on the 450 foot wall surrounding the Mountain of Despair and Stone of Hope have received scrutiny and praises from visitors.

“This missed opportunity to carve GOD’s Name on the wall still presents another opportunity. Many people don’t know that Uncle M. L. was a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It stands to reason that they have never heard of his devotion to Jesus Christ and his message of God’s agape love. I wasn’t consulted on the design of the site, still I see this as a teaching moment to encourage people to read King’s sermons.”

During a pre-dedication tour, Alveda asked why the name of God wasn’t inscribed in some of the quotes. She was told that the effort was to be global and universal in scope and that the hope was that people would depart the site wanting to know more about her uncle. “In the Old Testament, God carved His Word on stones. Today, His Word is inscribed in the human heart. While this as a politically correct versus spiritually aware type of issue, I als see this as an opportunity to witness the love of God and to invite people to read Uncle M. L.’s sermons and learn of his ministry.”

During the dedication activities, Mrs. Naomi King, widow of Rev. A. D. King placed a creation video, a copy of The Beloved Community letter and Alveda’s book HOW CAN THE DREAM SURVIVE in the MLK Time Capsule. Alveda was there to support her mother.

The Priests for Life Pastoral Associate was also reflective on President Obama’s commemorative speech on October 16, 2011 when the MLK Memorial Park Site was dedicated. “For an unforgettable moment in human history, President Obama laid aside the political gauntlet to simply remember a man who dedicated his life in service to humanity. I really appreciated the gesture, and President Obama is in my prayers.”

King who recently announced that she prefers “policy over politics” went on to note that her political views are different from the President’s in that she is pro-life and supports procreative marriage, while President Obama supports programs that seem to favor anti-life efforts, with Planned Parenthood being at the top of the list.

Silence will rock college campuses tomorrow as students protest abortion

Tens of Thousands of young people across the country will sacrifice their voices tomorrow for the Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity, and they will do it in honor and memory of a young abortion abolitionist and her unborn daughter who were killed in a car accident Oct. 8 in Georgia.

“Tomorrow, students will be sending a loud and clear message that abortion must end and all innocent human life must be protected from conception to natural death,” said event organizer Bryan Kemper, founder Stand True Ministries and Youth Outreach Director for Priests for Life.

“The day is about sacrifice and that is why it is fitting that this year’s event is dedicated to Kortney Blythe Gordon and her baby Sophy. Kortney was a beacon of light and sacrificed more than anyone can ever imagine in her fight as an abortion abolitionist.”

Mrs. Gordon, 28, was a field director for Students for Life of America.

For the eighth annual Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity, students at 1,200 colleges, high schools, middle schools and home schools have pledged to remain silent in solidarity with thousands of unborn children permanently silenced by abortion every single day.

“Last year, we heard back from 64 girls who canceled their abortions because of the Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity and dozens of kids who changed their hearts and are now pro-life,” Kemper said. “These are just the ones we have heard back from; we have no idea how many lives were actually saved. But we do know that just one life makes this whole day worth the effort.”

The Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity is a project of Stand True and Priests for Life and is co-sponsored by LifeNews.com, Students for Life of America and Survivors.

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life asked, “Are you willing to give up your voice for a day for those who will never have a voice?”

For more information, visit www.silentday.org. To interview Kemper, call him at 540-538-2581.

Father Pavone hails House passage of the Protect Life Act

Friday, October 14th, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: October 14, 2011

Contact: Andre Kim
347-286-7277

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement about Thursday’s 251-172 vote for the Protect Life Act in the House of Representatives.

“On its way to being passed by the House, the Protect Life Act (H.R. 358) was described by its detractors as a waste of time, a distraction that took the focus off the economy, and a death sentence for women facing life-threatening pregnancies.

“It is none of those things.

“Saving lives is never a waste of time, and this bill, at its core, is about saving lives. But it also represents the majority of the American people, who do not want their tax dollars paying for abortion. Those who voted against the bill contradicted the wishes of their constituents, and should be held accountable in the elections.

“Repairing the economy and creating jobs is crucial, but it has never been and will never be as crucial as preserving the right to life. The right to life is the foundation on which all our other rights are built. We must protect life first, and then look for solutions to our other problems.

“As for the claim that the Protect Life Act would leave pregnant women bleeding to death on emergency room floors, that is pure theatrics.

“The American people know what the Protect Life Act would and would not do. It would prohibit their tax dollars from being used to pay for abortions, and it would protect the conscience rights of medical workers who oppose abortion. It’s a good bill, a necessary bill, and the House took an important first step in passing it.”

Father Pavone urged supporters to make their views known to their senators.

Fr. Pavone: ‘Voices from the Womb’ Will Change Hearts and Minds

Friday, October 14th, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: October 14, 2011

Contact: Andre Kim
347-286-7277

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement about “Voices from the Womb,” a project that gave federal lawmakers an opportunity to see babies in the womb via ultrasound.

Fr. Frank said, “The ground-breaking project called ‘Voices From the Womb,’ which brought live ultrasound to the U.S. Capitol Thursday, was a stroke of brilliance that will now be repeated across the nation. It should be required viewing for lawmakers in every state that has yet to pass a bill ensuring that a mother has an ultrasound before aborting her child.

“Abortion supporters claim these laws don’t respect the woman’s ability to make informed choices,” Father Frank continued. “But on the contrary, they precisely enhance that ability, by helping her see what she often finds out too late, that the baby is far more developed than her abortionist admits.”

Father Pavone applauded the National Pro-Life Center (of which he serves as Pastoral Director and which he helped develop) for organizing “Voices from the Womb,” together with the Stanton Project, the Christian Defense Coalition and the Knights of Columbus, which supported the project financially.

“When pro-life groups work together, we can change hearts and minds, and laws,” he said.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Be Aware of the Link Between Abortion and Breast Cancer

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

Every October people across America are reminded that breast cancer is a huge problem for women. Many organizations bring awareness to the issue and try to educate women about the possible causes of breast cancer but not all are telling you the whole truth.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is one such organization. They do some good but they also contribute to an organization, Planned Parenthood, which performs abortions. Along with all the listed causes/links to breast cancer: Women who have had abortions have an increased risk of getting breast cancer.

Donating to Komen for the Cure amounts to the same thing as writing two checks, one to Komen for the Cure and another to Planned Parenthood.

Why an organization that is trying to find a cure for breast cancer is teaming up with an organization that is helping women get breast cancer is unimaginable. That’s like an organization saying that they want to make abortions rare on the one hand while encouraging sexual activity among young people on the other hand (which Planned Parenthood does by the way).

According to a recent article on LifeNews.com, “’Many studies have linked an increased risk of developing breast cancer after an abortion, yet both Susan G. Komen and Planned Parenthood deny the risk abortion poses to breast health,’ TRTL says.

“The Tennessee pro-life leader says his group recommends the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, Polycarp Research Institute and Coalition on Abortion / Breast Cancer as three organizations dedicated to stopping breast cancer as ones pro-life advocates can support.”

Dr. Gerard Nadal does as good a job explaining why abortion leads to an increased risk of developing breast cancer as any I’ve ever seen. Read his article HERE.

Donate to a real breast cancer prevention organizations and help find a cure for breast cancer while telling Komen for the Cure that you know about their support of Planned Parenthood and you won’t be supporting either of them from now on.

“Redeem the Dream” Conference Set for Saturday in D.C.

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: Oct. 11, 2011

347-286-7277

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In conjunction with Sunday’s dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial, Dr. Alveda King, full-time director of African-American Outreach for Priests for Life, will host a panel discussion and video presentation Saturday, Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Family Research Council, 801 G Street.

“Redeem the Dream: The State of the Quality of Life in the 21st Century,” will present a frank assessment of how far African-Americans have come since Martin Luther King gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963, and how the dream has been imperiled by the abortion industry.

“The murder of millions of African-American babies by abortion was not something my Uncle Martin envisioned or would ever have supported,” said Dr. King. “He was unequivocally pro-life, and it would break his heart to know that so many African-American leaders endorse freedom of choice over the right to life.”

Co-hosting “Redeem the Dream” will be King for America, Priests for Life, Care-Net, Heartbeat INTL, Center for Urban Renewal and Education, Network of Politically Active Christians, Congress on Racial Equality, Students for Life, National Black Pro-Life Union and Protecting Black Life.

Reservations are not required for the event. To arrange an interview with Dr. King, please call Andre Kim at 347-286-7277.

Be Courageous! See COURAGEOUS!

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

This past weekend I saw a great movie called COURAGEOUS, from the creators of FIREPROOF. It opened up as #4 in box office sales on September 30, 2011 and this past weekend it was #6. Not a bad showing considering that it’s playing in less than half as many theatres as the other top 12 movies. Per screen sales put it in the number 3 position this past weekend and #1 last weekend out of the top 12 movies.

The film follows the lives of five fathers and the struggles they face in their lives which lead them to make a pledge to become better fathers.

This film will take you on an emotional ride that will make you laugh, cry and inspire you to be a better version of yourself.

Whether you’re a father or know someone who is, this movie is worth seeing and sharing with a father in your life. I’m recommending this movie for every father, every family, and every person in America and around the world.

With an increasing number of children growing up in single parent households, an overwhelming majority of those being single mothers, the subject of fatherhood in this film is appropriate for the times. This film does a fantastic job of pointing out the important role a father plays in the family unit and the courage it takes for a man to step up and take responsibility for his wife and children.

I’m already making plans to have a screening of this movie for Father’s Day 2012. I can think of no better gift to give to a father than to share this movie with him and those he loves. And it’s a gift that can change every family.

To find out where this movie is playing near you, please visit www.courageousthemovie.com. Don’t miss it. It will change your life.
