WASHINGTON, D.C. –4:58 pm An emergency injunction granted just moments ago in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit means that Priests for Life will not have to obey the contraception mandate contained in the Affordable Care Act as its appeal is being heard. It also means that, the day after tomorrow, Priests for Life will not have to cancel health insurance for its employees.

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said he is grateful his organization is free, temporarily at least, from having to comply with the unjust mandate or face steep fines by failing to comply when the ministry’s new insurance policy goes into effect on Wednesday.

“We would not have complied with this mandate in any case, as it promotes the very culture of death that Priests for Life works to combat,” Father Pavone said. “We are grateful for this temporary relief and look forward to a permanent injunction once the appeal is fully heard.”

“Our lawsuit was among the very first ones in the country and the necessity to launch it shows that religious freedom in America is in grave danger. We have to take action.”

On Dec. 19, Priests for Life learned that the judge in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia had ruled in favor of the government. Within an hour Priests for Life filed for the emergency injunction that was granted today.

Father Pavone said that what the Obama administration has tried to do through the HHS mandate – which he called a “blatant act of tyranny” – is to give the federal government the power to determine what is and what isn’t important in an individual’s religion; that is not the government’s role.

Father Pavone concluded, “There have already been significant victories in the courts against the HHS mandate, and we have no doubt that Priests for Life ultimately will prevail in this historic fight.”

Violence Hits Close To Home As Young Solider Is Gunned Down After Christmas

Saturday, December 28th, 2013

Xavier Arnold

Dear Friends and Family please pray with us. Our niece/cousin by marriage, Mi-Mi Ursula Beal Arnold – her stepson 21 year old military man, Xavier Arnold was shot and killed this week. Pray for his father James Arnold, his mother and his entire surviving family.

His immediate family is calling for an X Movement Rally in Atlanta today at 5 PM. We are urgently requesting prayer support. Please attend if you are in the City.

“… If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14 NLT)

Please God don’t let Atlanta go the way of Detroit and Chicago. Stop the violence all over the world, and begin in our own lives. Please bring an end to the killing of our children, youth and young adults. A juvenile has been apprehended in regards to the incident.

I must be true to my heart and remind us during this tragic time that the sanctity of life is under siege from the time of natural human conception in the womb until natural death. Guns are just part of the problem. The violent hatred spurred by greed and Godless lawlessness is occurring more and more frequently.

I saw the new Mandela movie this week. Even though President Mandela repented of his early days of radical violence, the seeds of violence and hatred sown wreaked havoc. I pray that we will remember that love is stronger than hate.

It’s still close to Christmas, so I’ll close with this:

In a 1967 Christmas sermon, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “The next thing we must be concerned about if we are to have peace on earth and good will toward men is the nonviolent affirmation of the sacredness of all human life. …Man is a child of God, made in His image, and therefore must be respected as such….And when we truly believe in the sacredness of human personality, we won’t exploit people, we won’t trample over people with the iron feet of oppression, we won’t kill anybody.”

Fr. Pavone Comments on Record-Setting Closings of Abortion Mills

Friday, December 27th, 2013

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: December 27, 2013

347-286-7277

NEW YORK, NY — Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, and Troy Newman, Director of Operation Rescue, have announced that the number of abortion mill closures in 2013 has risen to at least 87.

Fr. Pavone said, “We have been teaching for the last two decades that abortion collapses under its own weight, and that the weak point is precisely the abortion mill. In this year when the horrifying nature of the abortion industry came to light in the Gosnell trial and when so many state laws increased the standards for abortion mills, we see that coming true more than ever.”

According to the tracking done by Operation Rescue, there are now 582 abortion clinics operating in the country today, a drop of 12 percent in 2013 alone, and a 73 percent drop from 1991, when there were some 2,176 abortuaries in the United States.

“These numbers show that the pro-life movement is gaining ground and that the abortion industry is collapsing – mostly due to its own negligence and greed, which has been exposed by their unwillingness and inability to comply with even the most rudimentary safety standards,” said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue.

Noting that Operation Rescue works closely with Priests for Life on many life-saving projects –particularly the closing of a clinic in Birmingham, AL, that was performing abortions illegally, Newman said, “Both groups share the credit for these awesome statistics.”

Father Pavone said the clinic closings have energized the whole pro-life movement.

“The lives of babies and their mothers are saved when every clinic closes,” he said. “Knowing there are so many children having birthdays in 2014 who might never have been born convinces us that applying pressure to clinic operators and abortionists is a vital part of our work to end abortion.”

Cardinal John O’Connor Institute for the Pro-life Training of the Clergy

Friday, December 27th, 2013

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: December 26, 2013

Contact: Leslie Palma
347-286-7277

NEW YORK — Dr. Bernard Nathanson, a key architect of the abortion industry, said publicly to gatherings of clergy, after he became pro-life, that he and his pro-abortion colleagues in the 1960′s and 70′s “would never have gotten away with what we did if you (the clergy) had been united, purposeful, and strong.”

The key reason Priests for Life got started was the conviction that today’s proponents of the culture of death will still not get away with what they are doing if we become more united, purposeful, and strong.

Cardinal O’Connor was instrumental in the genesis and growth of Priests for Life, having released Fr. Frank Pavone in 1993 to do this work full time. In a letter to Fr. Frank, the Cardinal wrote, “I know of no effort more noble, more timely or important than the recruitment of our clergy in the cause of life.” (March 21, 1996).

Mindful, then, of the teaching and example of Cardinal O’Connor and Dr. Nathanson in this regard, Priests for Life intends to redouble its efforts in 2014 to train the clergy. With the support of Cardinal O’Connor’s sister, Mary Ward, we are launching the Cardinal John O’Connor Institute for the Pro-life Training of the Clergy, which will include a re-packaging of many of the activities Priests for Life has done all along, together with some new initiatives.

These activities, which will span all denominations across the Body of Christ, will include the following:

– Training seminars for seminarians, deacons, and priests, in which our team will travel to seminaries and dioceses, and present a flexible package of presentations ranging in length anywhere from a luncheon talk to a seminar of several days, and covering the themes of preaching, counseling, and pro-life strategies and activities that can be carried out and promoted in parishes, schools, and other Catholic institutions.

– Training in pro-life spirituality, with retreats and days of recollection available for seminarians, deacons, and priests.

– A new book on Preaching the Pro-life Message, containing, among other things, answers to the most common fears about addressing abortion, and homily hints based on the readings of every Sunday of the three-year liturgical cycle. These homily hints are also available for each of these Sundays in video format on You Tube, as well as in a smartphone application.

– Special training days offered for clergy at our New York headquarters of Priests for Life, as well as at our Washington DC office, right behind the Supreme Court. Sessions in Washington will include special opportunities to interact with practicing Christians in Congress and to learn more about how to support pro-life legislation.

– Specialized training in post-abortion healing, making use of our expert team who developed Rachel’s Vineyard Ministries, which operates under the umbrella of Priests for Life, and also making use of the insights of our Silent No More Awareness Campaign.

– Specialized training in the healing of former abortion clinic workers and abortionists, based on the research and experience of the “Society of Centurions,” a worldwide organization of former abortionists, who have gone through healing based on the model developed by Canadian psychiatrist Dr. Philip Ney, foremost expert in the psychology of abortionists.

– Specialized training in how to dialogue with advocates and practitioners of abortion, and show to them the face of Christ, inviting them to conversion based on a recognition that our belief in the sanctity of every human life includes theirs, too.

The Cardinal’s sister, Mary Ward, recently said of this effort, “The pro-life legacy of my brother, Cardinal John O’Connor, is well known. Part of that legacy was his work in helping Priests for Life get started, and his support of Fr. Frank Pavone, whom he ordained and later released to help inspire and motivate clergy across the country. This new Institute started by Priests for Life, and named after the Cardinal, will continue to plant his vision and passion for the defense of life in the hearts and minds of many priests for decades to come. This work deserves the support of all in the Church.”

Women of the National Black Prolife Coalition Denounce Planned Parenthood’s Latest Propaganda Maneuver

Friday, December 20th, 2013

Once again my sisters and I of the NBPC are bringing you the latest on the evil deeds of Planned Parenthood. They don’t let up even at Christmas. Lord have mercy!

“These are the kind of people who smooth-talk themselves into the homes of unstable and needy women and take advantage of them; women who, depressed by their sinfulness, take up with every new religious fad that calls itself “truth.” They get exploited every time and never really learn… But nothing will come of these latest impostors. Everyone will see through them, just as people saw through that Egyptian hoax. (2 Timothy 3:6-9 MSG)

ATLANTA, Dec. 19, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ — Women of the National Black Prolife Coalition (NBPC) believe Planned Parenthood is continuing its age old strategy of targeting the black community by enlisting members of the black elite to promote their organization. The Root’s article “How Black Women are Saving Planned Parenthood” is the most recent example of the propaganda machine they employ. The NBPC denounces this practice pointing to the hundreds if not thousands of women that have been hurt in Planned Parenthood abortion chambers and the millions of babies that have died as they have grown their business into the leading abortion provider in the nation.

“To this day I remain haunted by the death of Tonya Reaves, a vibrant young twenty four year old that Planned Parenthood in Chicago left bleeding for more than five hours after a failed abortion of her fifth month of pregnancy,” said Catherine Davis, Founder of the Restoration Project. “She did not have to die. But Planned Parenthood had so little regard for her life they refused to transport her 1.7 miles down the street where lifesaving help in one of the leading trauma centers was available.”

The NBPC believes this is because Planned Parenthood has an agenda of population control and the life of the mother is expendable as they strive to achieve “a U. S. population of stable size” (as revealed in their 2008 tax filing). “Instead of helping to eliminate poverty, these elitists seek to eliminate the poor. This race genocide must stop,” said Connie Eller of Missouri Blacks for Life. “Black women who support Planned Parenthood are participating in the evil elimination and denigration of other Black women and children,” she continued.

“Their model has not changed,” said Day Gardner of the National Black Prolife Union. “Since the days of Margaret Sanger, Planned Parenthood has been adept at ferreting out advocates who care more for money and power than people. The result is over 55,000,000 children slaughtered, and thousands of women injured, some unto death.”

“Planned Parenthood has a history of promoting the government’s eugenicist plan to reduce the black population by employing black women,” notes La Verne Tolbert, PhD, a former board member of Planned Parenthood. “In the early 1970s Faye Wattleton was the first black voice to promote abortion. She was always elegant on television as she debated Catholic clergy who wore their tab white collars — the perfect visual contrast Planned Parenthood needed as Faye championed black women to abort their babies.”

“Planned Parenthood’s callous use of black elitist women to smooth talk their way into the homes of vulnerable black women and take advantage of them is notorious. Rather than providing life affirming assistance, they sell them deadly contraceptives and abortion,” said Alveda King, Director of African American Outreach, Priests for Life.

“This racist genocide must stop.”

Fr. Pavone: ‘We will not obey this mandate’ Priests for Life files appeal after Obamacare lawsuit dismissed

Thursday, December 19th, 2013

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: December 19, 2013

NEW YORK – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement today after learning that Priests for Life’s lawsuit against the HHS contraception mandate was dismissed by a judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

“Today, the judge in our case in District Court in Washington D.C. ruled against us regarding the HHS mandate. Because the mandate would go into effect for us on January 1, we filed, within an hour of the judge’s decision, an emergency request with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. circuit, to provide an injunction to maintain the status quo, protecting us from the mandate until our appeal to the same court can be heard and decided.

“The judge’s decision today is a complete contradiction to Judge Cogan’s decision of just a few days ago in New York for organizations situated similarly to us and using exactly the same arguments.

“The New York decision recognized that the religious nonprofits were being forced to cooperate with evil. Our judge, instead, claims that we are not being forced to cooperate with evil. Our judge’s decision is wrong, and we are confident of victory in our appeal.

“Meanwhile, injunction or not, we will absolutely not obey, cooperate with, or tolerate in any way this unjust mandate. As Scripture says, we will obey God rather than men.”

A Special Gift at Christmas: A Prayer for our Leaders

Thursday, December 19th, 2013

131219 blog image

Click HERE to listen to the Christmas Prayer.

1 Timothy 2: … pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.

It’s a privilege and necessity to pray for our leaders, their families, our nation and our government. Let’s pray not only for our president, but for all leaders. Do we really hate the sin, yet love the person bound by sin? Are we secretly asking God to kill those whom we perceive to be our enemies, instead of praying for them to be blessed?

And Jesus said in Matthew 5:44: “But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!

With compassion, let’s pray this Christmas that God will heal, use and protect their lives from destruction; that our world can recover and be rescued from the grip of sin and despair.

1. Pray that our leaders would have understanding to discern between good and evil.
2. Pray that the Bible and the teachings of Christ would characterize our leaders’ policies.
3. Pray that our leaders’ marriages would be kept a priority even in the midst of daily demands.
4. Pray that our leaders would become friends to those who honor Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
5. Pray that our leaders and all global would uphold the sacredness of marriage as a covenant only between a man and a woman.
6. Pray that our leaders would lead the way in protecting and upholding the value of the unborn, newborn, elderly, and those who are unable to care for themselves.
7. Pray that our leaders’ administrations will respect the place of Judeo-Christian values in our global society.
8. Pray that our leaders would have perseverance in leading the effort to defeat terrorism around the world.
9. Pray that the presidential family and families of all leaders would model lives of integrity, purity, and humility in the midst of high visibility.
10. Pray that our leaders would promote laws that enable God’s people to lead quiet and peaceful lives in godliness and honesty.
11. Pray that our leaders would be surrounded by wise, biblical counselors who have an understanding of the times.
12. Pray for physical, mental and emotional strength and courage as our leaders seek to serve our governments as stewards of God’s authority.
13. Pray for physical protection for our leaders’ families and administrations.
14. Pray that our leaders would make decisions that would allow Christ’s church in America and around the world to flourish.
15. Pray that our leaders would enact policies and legislation that protect the family, encourage parents, and uphold a biblical standard of righteousness.
16. Pray that our leaders would daily seek the God of heaven, and that they would exemplify true meekness and humility while addressing crucial issues.
17. Pray that our leaders would follow attempts to significantly curtail pornography, the human trafficking trade, and the triple threat of racism, reproductive genocide and sexual perversion.
18. Pray that God would clothe our leaders with wisdom and discernment to lead righteously.
19. Pray that our leaders’ administrations would be men and women of integrity in both their private and public lives.
20. Pray that the Lord would close the mouths of those who oppose righteousness.
21. Pray that our leaders would have wisdom and discernment on how to apply Scripture to our government’s fiscal policies.
22. Pray that the presidential family would avail themselves of the Lord’s help in facing each day’s challenges.
23. Pray that our leaders would be accountable to men who are morally upright in order to prevent any downfall due to pride or moral weakness.
24. Pray that our leaders would not allow their deep desire for unity to supersede their desire to do what is right according to God’s Word.
25. Pray that God would unite the nation behind our leaders in any decisions that honor God.
26. Pray that our leaders would establish protective hedges in areas of vulnerability to temptation.
27. Pray that our leaders would wisely handle the issues of the Middle East.
28. Pray that God would prompt our leaders to disarm all influences that seek to undermine godly principles.
29. Pray that our leaders will seek the heart of God for any potential Supreme Court justices and federal court judges.
30. Pray that our leaders will set aside regular times to rest and to focus on God and His Word, as well as their families.
31. Pray that our nation will truly become one nation under God, respect and pray for our president, and elect state and local leaders who will govern righteously.
32. Amen.

Fr. Pavone: “We, too, are confident of victory”

Tuesday, December 17th, 2013

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: December 17, 2013

Contact: Leslie Palma
347-286-7277

NEW YORK — Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement after learning that Catholic groups in New York have won their battle against Obamacare’s contraception mandate.

“This is a victory for religious freedom and all people of faith,” said Father Pavone. “The fact that the judge found that the ‘coercive pressure’ to make these Catholic employers violate their foundational beliefs was ‘substantial’ should not be overlooked. This battle is not about contraception. It’s about the government trying to deny citizens the right to practice their faith, in violation of the very principles on which this country stands.”

Father Pavone noted that a decision in Priests for Life’s lawsuit against the mandate is expected any day. The Priests for Life case was heard Dec. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Priests for Life filed the fourth of dozens of lawsuits filed to challenge the government’s overt violation of the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

“We, too, are confident of victory,” Father Pavone said

HHS Mandate Offense Hits Home in a Personal Way

Wednesday, December 11th, 2013

131211 blog image

Yesterday was International Human Rights Day, and yet Priests for Life is embroiled in a legal battle to end a serious infraction against the human rights of women and babies. The Priests for Life HHS Mandate lawsuit which includes plaintiffs Fr. Frank Pavone, Janet Morana, and myself is timely, and it’s necessary. The Mandate is personally offensive because my own constitutional rights are being violated. It’s unfair to require that PFL, the company that I work for pay into a program that will subsidize abortion, easy access to abortion, as well as harmful chemical contraceptives and surgical contraceptive procedures.

I personally am a victim of Planned Parenthood and abortion. I was tricked. I believed the propaganda through Planned Parenthood that a baby was just a blob of tissue and that it was the safest procedure for a woman, even safer than giving birth. When I was a young woman I believed that.

I also believed that it was a woman’s right to choose what she does with her own body and I still believe that. But I know now, today, that the baby is not her body.

And so I ended up with severe medical conditions based upon the abortions and the harmful contraceptive process that I partook of during my younger years. I have experiences a condition called phlebitis which involves blood clotting from the hormonal manipulations of the birth control process. And I had problems with my breasts, or mammary system based upon complications of the abortions and contraceptives as well. Which is why it is so offensive to inadvertently face being forced to end up paying into an insurance program that can harm other women. It is very stressful to me, very disturbing to me, very offensive to me.

Co-defendants Fr. Frank Pavone and Janet Morana were in District Court in Washington, DC yesterday for a hearing on our case. We are now awaiting a ruling from the judge. Shannon Bream of Fox News Channel covered the hearing and her report ran on Special Report with Bret Baier. Click HERE to watch and read the report.

We know that this horrible HHS Mandate is an enemy to the human rights of all Americans and indeed all human beings. As my colleague Bryan Kemper said:

“Today, Dec 10th, is International Human Rights Day. If you support the systematic slaughter of innocent human persons in their mother’s womb then you have no right celebrating this day. Human rights are not something a court or governing body has the right to arbitrarily give and take away, they are endowed upon us by our creator. To take part in human rights day, you must stand against the holocaust that is filling the streets of our world with the blood of the most vulnerable and innocent humans of all: our pre-born human children.”

Finally, I agree with my colleague and co-plaintiff Janet Morana, who along with Father Pavone demands that we RECALL ABORTION and say no to the HHS Mandate.
