After the phenomenal success of a TweetFest last Friday that finally convinced the mainstream media to cover the trial of abortionist and accused mass murderer Kermit Gosnell, organizers will take to Twitter again tomorrow to highlight exactly “Who Is #Gosnell?”

From 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, everyone with a Twitter account is invited to share their outrage that Gosnell was able to operate his “house of horrors” in Pennsylvania for 17 years with absolutely no oversight. Tweets should continue to use the hashtag #Gosnell and point the way to WhoIsGosnell.com, a website established by TweetFest co-organizer Bryan Kemper, Youth Outreach Director for Priests for Life.

“In one day last week, there were 600,000 mentions of Gosnell on Twitter,” Kemper said. “The hashtag got the topic trending and brought the ongoing trial to the attention of Anderson Cooper and other national media outlets. Now that we’ve got their attention, we want to make sure they understand exactly who Gosnell is, what’s he accused of doing, and how our abortion-friendly culture allowed this to happen.”

Organizers also are Tweeting pro-life celebrities in an effort to get them involved in event.

Frustrated by the total absence of national media coverage of the trial, Kemper, along with Operation Rescue President Troy Newman and Abortion Wiki Founder Andy Moore, came up with the idea of raising awareness of Gosnell through social media.

“The pro-life movement is absolutely tuned in to the power of social media, so we knew this effort would be a success,” said Kemper. “But we had no idea just how much of an impact it would have. Now we know, and there will be no stopping us.”

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life and a prolific Tweeter, said the TweetFest was proof that social media is a powerful tool for the pro-life movement.

“People who had no idea who Gosnell is or what he was accused of are now getting a full education in what Roe v. Wade has allowed to happen in our country,” Father Pavone said as he Tweeted from outside the Philadelphia courtroom where he is attending Gosnell’s trial. “As this information gets out, our movement can only get stronger as a result.”

Dr. Alveda King Remembers the “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

mlk-in-birmingham-jail

On this, the 50th anniversary of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famous Letter from a Birmingham Jail, his niece, Dr. Alveda King, Director of African American Outreach for Priests for Life, says her uncle’s letter applies just as profoundly today to abortion as it did in 1963 to segregation.

Alveda is joined by Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life who today said: “Today, that letter still speaks. Just as it spoke in his day on behalf of those who suffered the violence of segregation, so now it speaks for those who suffer the violence of abortion.”

Alveda adds, “If Uncle M.L. were alive today, he would surely include the 21st century womb babies and their mothers in his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.” The atrocity of abortion in America has killed millions of human babies who are often considered to be property, chattels, and less than human.

“In his 1963 letter, he wrote that segregation ‘ends up relegating persons to the status of things.’ Change ‘segregation’ to ‘abortion’ and you have the year 2013.

“Jim Crow laws gave us the continuing dehumanization of African Americans, beatings, lynchings, and the Ku Klux Klan. Roe v. Wade has given us the dehumanization of unborn and, now, born babies, skull crushings, spine snippings. Consider Kermit Gosnell in Philadelphia; the Planned Parenthood Chicago facility that killed Tonya Reaves; and all of the other hundreds of abortion providers and Planned Parenthood officials who can’t say whether fully born babies who survive abortions should be helped to live.

“In the Letter from a Birmingham Jail, Uncle M. L. noted that by their effort and example, early Christians ‘brought an end to such evils as infanticide’ in the Greco-Roman world. We now know, however, that the Greco-Roman world has been revived in abortion clinics across the land. Where the ancients would leave their unwanted babies to die of exposure, abortionists now leave their ‘mistakes’ to die in corners or closets – or worse.

My Uncle M.L. once wrote in 1953 that the most segregated hour in America is 11:00 am on Sunday because back then Blacks and Whites didn’t often worship together.

Fast forward to 2013, where minority mothers and our babies are targeted by abortion providers as the most vulnerable recipients of abortion in the name of women’s rights and solutions to poverty. Even Gosnell, whose defense lawyer said if women want Mayo Clinic standards they should go to Mayo Clinic, yes, even Gosnell’s House of Horrors had a slightly cleaner “White Only” surgical room, while Black women and their babies were butchered in a torture chamber in another section of the abortion mill. All the while, they all keep trying to hide the fact that all abortions are dangerous to a woman’s health, her baby’s life, and generally result in death and misery.

This all leads me to say that the most segregated place a woman can go today is an abortion mill! And no ludicrous references to a 1966 deceptive Planned Parenthood Award offered to MLK and accepted by his wife, not him, is going to trick people into believing that my uncle would condone slaughtering babies and damaging their mothers in the name of justice.

“Uncle M. L. even once asked: ‘How does one determine whether a law is just or unjust? A just law is a man-made code that squares with the moral law or the law of God. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law. To put it in the terms of St. Thomas Aquinas: ‘An unjust law is a human law that is not rooted in eternal law and natural law.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“The Reverend King was a man of God and a preacher of the Word. He sought a peace that was not just the absence of tension, but the presence of justice. He would agree that there can be no real peace in a society that tolerates injustice. He would most certainly agree that the taking of innocent lives is a horrible injustice. There is no doubt that just as my Uncle M.L. called America’s clergy to awaken 50 years ago to the moral transgression of segregation, he would today sound out a call for a moral awakening and urge all Americans and indeed all human beings around the world today to awaken to the grievous wrong of abortion, and the subsequent devastation of natural marriage and family.”

Anti-Abortion Student Group at Hopkins Will Be Fully Recognized

Monday, April 15th, 2013

John Hopkins University

As I travel across USA speaking to high school and college students, it is very encouraging to experience their openness to hearing “both sides” of the natural life and family debates. Also encouraging is the response of a panel of student judges at Johns Hopkins University who reversed a decision by the Student Government Association and will allow Voice for Life to be one of the over 300 officially recognized groups on the campus. The student pro-life group will now be able to use the university’s logo in its advertising, apply for funding from the school, and conduct demonstrations on university property.

Baltimore Sun Article:

Anti-abortion activists at the Johns Hopkins University who had fought to form an official club have been fully recognized, clearing the way for them to use the institution’s logo and raise cash on campus.

The university announced Wednesday that an earlier decision by the Student Government Association to block the group, Voice for Life, was reversed by a panel of student judges.

The issue has set off a storm of debate over free speech and whether anti-abortion “sidewalk counseling” constitutes harassment at the private university.

Voice for Life plans to approach women and their companions outside clinics near the Homewood campus to discuss abortion, as well as conduct on-campus demonstrations using literature and non-graphic images, said freshman Andrew Guernsey, president of the group. Guernsey said the group won’t shout at or confront individuals.

Guernsey and freshman Monica Rex, another leader of the fledgling group, said the Judiciary Committee’s decision clears a path for them to “begin the real work of saving lives.”

“While the road was difficult, we have learned just how much this fight for life means to us, and how important it is that students at Johns Hopkins . . .

Court to Priests for Life: “You have to wait”

Judge dismisses case for now, but protects Priests for Life from HHS Mandate; Priests for Life to re-file.

On Friday, April 12, in Federal Court for the Eastern District of New York, Judge Frederic Block issued an order granting the government’s motion to dismiss the case, Priests for Life vs. Sebelius, on grounds of “lack of ripeness.”

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued this statement:

“The Court’s decision Friday does not mean that we are being forced to obey the mandate now. In fact, this same court protected us from having that happen, by having the government stipulate back in December, in writing, that it would not enforce the mandate against Priests for Life in 2013.

“Moreover, the dismissal does not mean we’ve ‘lost the case;’ it means the court is not ready to decide on the case. The court is not saying we are wrong in our arguments with the Obama Administration and the HHS. Rather, it is issuing a procedural, technical ruling saying that we have to wait before the court decides on the merits of those arguments. The reason for the wait is the Administration’s promise of further changes to the mandate, changes expected by August of this year. The Court is saying, ‘Wait and see if, once the changes to the mandate come, you still want to challenge it.’

“In Judge Block’s order on Friday, he states, ‘The proposed regulations are not fit for review since they are still being formed…If Priests for Life is not content with the ultimate regulations, it may renew its legal challenge at that point.’ This is what has happened in over 20 other cases by similar organizations.

“What do we think of this?

“The Administration has already announced proposed changes, all of which are unacceptable and do not address our legal or moral concerns. The Administration is delaying the inevitable resolution of the legal challenge, and then arguing that the delay itself is grounds for dismissing the challenge. These are cowardly games which show that the Administration just wants these lawsuits to go away. The Administration should not do this and the court should not allow it.

“Moreover, the fact is that the mandate, as it stands now, is law. Its promises about the future are not law. Nor is there any indication that these future changes in any way will constitute exemption from the coerced coverage of objectionable activities.

“What we are saying is simple: the law, as it is now, infringes on our rights, and we only have temporary protection from the damage it does. Right now, the government is momentarily ceasing its illegal conduct so that the legal challenge to it is dismissed, only to return to the conduct later. That is why we are petitioning, and will continue to petition, the courts to declare the mandate unconstitutional. And we have every confidence that we will be successful.”

Robert J. Muise, Esq., American Freedom Law Center, stated, “While we disagree with the court’s ruling, it is not a ruling on the merits of our legal challenge to the HHS mandate. Consequently, as soon as the government ‘finalizes’ its implementing regulations in August, we will be right back in court, challenging the mandate and protecting religious freedom.”

Charles S. LiMandri, also a lead attorney for Priests for Life in the case, stated, “We are pleased that we were successful in securing a Stipulation from the Department of Justice and an Order from the court that guarantees that Priests for Life will not have the current unconscionable HHS Mandate enforced against it. The Department of Justice has further represented in court that final amended rules concerning the HHS Mandate will be in effect by August 2013. If, as we expect, the final HHS regulations continue to be morally objectionable, Priests for Life will still have five months in which to initiate further legal proceedings before they would have to comply with them. We are confident that unless the HHS Mandate is amended to include acceptable conscience protections, that the U.S. Supreme Court will ultimately hold that it violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.”

Working Together is a Win-Win Situation

Working Together

The following report is proof positive that when we stay in our lanes and do our best work and respect others who are on different pages in the same book, leaders get bolder and are more willing to approach all or nothing based on successful advances.

Kansas State Representative Steve Brunk said Friday after the passage of the omnibus pro-life bill, “There are a growing number of legislators who want to explore the practicality of moving toward fetal heartbeat as opposed to the incremental approach.” House Judiciary Chairman Lance Kinzer, a pro-life leader in the legislature, added, “We’re at a point of re-evaluation. We’re now looking at a different agenda because so much of what we wanted to be accomplished, will be accomplished.”

Analysis: Kan. abortion foes’ wins create dilemma

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas has enacted a wave of stricter abortion laws in the two-plus years Republican Gov. Sam Brownback has been in office, but those successes have led abortion opponents to discuss changing their tactics, unsure about what initiatives they’ll pursue next.

Thirty-two Kansas House members are sponsoring a proposed ban on most abortions as soon as a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which can occur as early as the sixth week of pregnancy, and the idea has the backing of the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue. Nine of those House members also were sponsors of a previous “personhood” amendment to the state constitution aimed at banning all abortions, declaring that the constitution protects the rights of individual starting at fertilization.

Kansas not only bans most abortions starting at the 22nd week of pregnancy, but . . .

Knife Control?

Thursday, April 11th, 2013

130411 blog image

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; – 2 Corinthians 10:4

On Tuesday a young college student in Texas went on a violent stabbing spree wounding 14 students at the CyFair campus of Lone Star College near Houston.

Was he exercising a weird type of gun control, by selecting a knife as his weapon of choice? Or maybe he wasn’t interested in killing with a gun but rather wanted to use a knife because of his fantasies of stabbing people to death since he was in elementary school as he told detectives.

Again, the call for gun control after the Sandy Hook murders is not the answer to controlling violence as I wrote in an article (copy below) in January but the true and only way to control violence is to change people’s hearts and minds. The government can regulate weapons to death (no pun intended) but until people’s hearts and minds are changed, people will always find a way to murder each other.

Case in point: Dylan Andrew Quick, the suspect in the Texas stabbings. Had he been more skilled, he could have actually killed someone. According to an FBI report, in 2011 13.4% of all murders in the United States were by knives and other cutting instruments.

This doesn’t even speak to the sanctioned murdering that is occurring in towns and cities all across America in abortion mills. And they’re using our tax dollars to do it.

Dylan stabbed 14 people but didn’t kill anyone. Adam Lanza, the Sandy Hook shooter, shot and killed 26 people, 20 children and 6 adults. I believe the outrage of the Sandy Hook shooting spree was the result of so many young children being killed, and rightly so. But where is the outrage over the 3,500-4,000 babies being killed every single day by doctors that have supposedly taken an oath to do no harm.

These doctors in abortion mills do not wield a gun; they don’t wield a knife. Their weapons of “choice” (again, no pun intended) are the forceps, a cannula, and a curette.

The Bible says, “You shall not murder.” – Exodus 20:13. And even if you aren’t religious or don’t believe in God, all countries have laws against murder.

At the National Prayer Breakfast in 1994, Mother Teresa of Calcutta said of abortion, “And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?

Hearts and minds, that’s what we need to work on changing. We can only do that if we turn to God.

People Wield Guns, Jesus Heals

By Alveda King
January 14, 2013

Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.) Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?” – John 18:10-11

We live in a fallen world, a seemingly nonsensical world.

It’s a world where people hold inviolate a “constitutional right” that doesn’t appear in the Constitution in order to permit abortion violence, yet are ready to trample upon a right that explicitly appears in the Constitution in order to try to stop gun violence.

There is no conceivable gun control law that could have stopped the horror of Sandy Hook – at least nothing short of confiscation. And confiscation would involve the government entering people’s homes without permission – a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment’s bar against unreasonable searches and seizures, not to mention the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms.

Still, people want to “do something.” I would suggest that we’re looking in the wrong place when we look at guns.

I know the horror of violence. Like many, I have lived through its trauma. I lost my uncle and grandmother to gun violence. But I also lost my father under suspicious circumstances that had nothing to do with guns. I lost childhood playmates not to guns, but to a bomb. My own house in Birmingham, in fact, was firebombed while I was in it 50 years ago.

The year 2013 will mark several significant landmark anniversaries including 150 years since the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, 100 years since the formation of the Federal Reserve System, 50 years since the MLK ‘I HAVE A DREAM SPEECH’, and the 40th year landmine Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in America. This will surely be a year of transition and there is a need for a deep spiritual awakening.

Life has taught me that anger and hate are not constrained by taking away a weapon. The civil rights era proved that baseball bats, lead pipes, and ropes are lethal when in the hands of evil men. Terrorists have proven that fertilizer, nails, and airplanes kill more effectively than guns. The weapon is not the problem. The problem is inside the human being who wants to kill.

Appropriate Care: What’s In A Word?

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

ambulance_pp-240x221
I always tell my children that it’s very important to choose your words wisely because language is very important. The use of a certain word instead of a different word can send someone a very different message or leave some message open for interpretation.

A recent video that went viral this past week has a Planned Parenthood lobbyist, Alisa LaPolt Snow, advocating for post-birth abortion. When asked by Chairman Boyd: “So, um, it is just really hard for me to even ask you this question because I’m almost in disbelief. If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”

Miss Snow [answered] (PP): “Um, well, we believe that any decision is made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician.”

She did not choose her words wisely because it sent the Florida lawmakers into disbelief at Planned Parenthood’s stance of the care that should be given to a child that is born alive after a botched abortion; or did she, which would make the Florida lawmaker’s shock and disbelief an appropriate response.

After this video went viral, outraged pro-lifers called for Planned Parenthood to condemn Miss Snow’s comments. Planned Parenthood’s response? “. . . of course Planned Parenthood would provide appropriate care to both the woman and the infant.”

“Appropriate care?” Again, words chosen very carefully I’m sure. A few seconds earlier, “appropriate care” was trying to kill the infant. And now, seconds later, with a live baby on the table, with both the doctor and the mother wanting (and wishing) that that baby was dead, we’re supposed to want the baby to receive “appropriate care” from this doctor? The mother, for whatever reasons she sought out the abortion in the first place, and the doctor, because he botched the abortion and didn’t do his ‘job’ right, should not be trusted with this baby’s life.

Why didn’t Planned Parenthood’s statement say “. . . of course Planned Parenthood would do everything to ensure the survival of the baby.”

Words – they are very important and telling.

Judge’s Decision Is Dangerous For Our Children

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

ella

As a mother and grandmother I shudder to consider the harm this will bring to young girls and subsequent grief to parents and loved ones.

Many contraceptives like ELLA, the morning after pill, have side effects and possible outcomes including strokes, heart attacks, sterility, etc.

USA Today is editorializing against a federal judge’s decision to require that “morning after” pills be made available over the counter to anyone of any age. In supporting the Obama administration’s original policy to require that girls under 17 obtain prescriptions for such drugs, USA Today writes, “The greater good is to leave decisions about the medical treatment of children in their parents’ hands.”

The HHS contraception mandate has received “more comments than any other regulatory proposal on any subject government-wide” according to the Sunlight Foundation. Today is the final day for public comment on the proposal to require businesses and non-profit charities of more than 50 employees to provide health insurance coverage for abortion-causing “contraceptives” and sterilization.
