NEW YORK, NY – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement about the Supreme Court’s decision to hear challenges to the Affordable Care Act’s HHS mandate.

“It’s a good day for religious liberty. The U.S. Supreme Court decision to hear lawsuits brought by Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties against the HHS mandate means this unjust requirement will get a full airing.

“We are watching this case with great interest at Priests for Life, since we also have filed suit against the mandate. Its so-called accommodation for religious employers was, in reality, no accommodation at all.”

NEW YORK, NY – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today welcomed “The Joy of the Gospel,” the first apostolic exhortation from Pope Francis.

“The Pope reaffirmed the Church’s never-ending defense of the unborn, and urged a greater effort to help women facing difficult pregnancies,” Father Pavone said. “This is the heart of the Gospel teaching and it is always relevant.”

“The pro-life movement has long said that we are called to love them both, mother and unborn child. In fact, we are called to love them all, fathers included. We will continue to spread this message and make sure the Pope’s words are heard by all the faithful.”

Break Abortion’s Heavy Yoke In Africa, America And Around The World

Thursday, November 21st, 2013

While America is sleeping, the population control machine is roaring across the globe, with Africa being a major focal point.

131121 Blog Image

As an African American woman, I remain deeply concerned that there remains a stain on human dignity that takes the form of reproductive genocide. No matter how they package the message, abortion and manufactured contraceptives that are linked to breast cancer, cervical cancer, emotional trauma and dead babies are all part of an inhumane crusade to advance the eugenicist creed. Africa is the “Mother Land” to the human race, and to attack the wombs of the women of Africa and call it reproductive freedom is a heartless lie aimed at the advancement of the human race. Please read what two women have to report about the Mega Population Control Conference in Addis Ababa:

Marie Smith, wife of US Congressman Christ Smith, and head of the Parliamentary Network for Critical Issues writes:

“The recent mega population control conference in Addis Ababa, 2013 International Conference on Family Planning: Full Access, Full Choice, was attended by over 3,000 individuals, and centered on the massive selling of a western ideology that views people as a problem and children as detriments to development to be avoided at all costs, including by destruction in abortion. The final statement from the meeting–Family Planning and the Post-2015 Development Framework: Achieving Universal Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights– included a call for governments to ensure that universal access to the full range of “sexual and reproductive health services” is included in the post-2015 framework.

“International Planned Parenthood Federation targeted African respect for family, love for children and opposition to abortion for change through promotion of the Value Clarification and Attitude Transformation (VCAT) toolkit designed to “overcome” cultural and religious beliefs against abortion and expand access to abortion in Africa.

131121 Blog Image2

“This well-funded conference, with a core group of donors that included Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, United Nations Foundation, David and Lucille Packard Foundation, IPPF, Marie Stopes International, and William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, causes us to pause and reflect on the present day struggle over respect for life and human dignity which so often appears to be a David vs Goliath scenario, especially in regards to funding.

“However, African values cherish the family, including vulnerable preborn and newborns, who continue to die in unacceptably large numbers–globally 1 million newborns died in the first minute after birth in 2012.

“African opposition to abortion is a vexation to pro-abortion NGOs which have to invest time, effort, and money in attempts to overcome the natural abhorrence and rejection of abortion in Africa–a concept of killing that is foreign to many Africans, including the woman in Uganda who once asked me, “What is this thing, abortion?”

“PNCI defers to a modern day “David” in the battle for a culture of life in Africa for her insightful comments on the conference. Obianuju Ekeocha, founder of Culture of Life Africa, is a welcome addition to the global struggle over the sanctity of life as she presents an insightful and heartfelt critique of the push for abortion and population control in Africa.”

Marie is joined by Obianuju Ekeocha who writes:

Turning up the Heat of Population Control in Africa

“Last week, the heavy noose of population control was placed around the neck of Africa as the Gates Foundation hosted what they called, the biggest family planning event in history with about 3000 attendees.

“The International Conference on Family Planning Addis Ababa was a 4-day event which had so many tentacles targeting almost every layer of the African society- women, men, youth, singles, married, professionals, academicians, politicians, celebrities, dignitaries and law makers.

“They featured an impressive line-up of key note speakers that included the most influential African movers, shakers and leaders.

“There were also international and western organizations who were there to support and strengthen the core purpose of the conference – population control of Africa.

“Their theme was “full access , full choice”

“But the real question the world should be asking at this point is – Access to what? Choice of what?

“Africa is home to millions of people who have no access at all to basic education or even basic healthcare.

“Most of us know or have friends or family members who have no choice in their impoverished situations.

“And yet, a hand full of people who have access to the greatest material wealth in the world come to us to tell us that what Africans need most is full access to sex without attachments.

“Terms like LARC (long-acting reversible contraception) were thrown around a lot during this conference. Emergency (abortifacient) contraception was put on a pedestal. Increasing access to Abortion was also another major area of discussion. African leaders in attendance were highly encouraged to increase their national budget and schemes for birth control. Adolescent “friendly” contraception initiatives were also flaunted for the young and supposedly unmarried ones as some of the western speakers and officials described and labelled African societies as “judgmental” in considering sex outside of marriage.

“To convene in Africa some of the most brilliant minds from around the world only to deliberate and discuss the best ways of getting the most effective birth control into the most remote parts of Africa. To bring in sexual and reproductive rights giants like International Planned Parenthood Federation so as to have them encourage sexual hedonism among our African youth. To have well known pro-abortion organizations like Ipas speaking on increasing and expanding access to abortion in Africa. To bring in medical “experts” from halfway across the world so as to have them teach, demonstrate and simulate second trimester D & E abortions

This is heart-breaking for the entire Continent of Africa!

“Going through some of these presentations, I was brought to tears for my people who lack and want so much to have access to even the most basic tools of development and all they get is the neo imperialists telling them how great things will be for them if they have “full access and full choice” of the finest contraceptive paraphernalia, tools and devices that will give them unconstrained and unrestrained sexual freedom.

“We are thirsty and they give us condoms! We are hungry and they offer us contraceptive pills! We are sick and they offer us the most modern techniques of abortion! We are naked and they lead us into the arms of sexual hedonism! We are imprisoned by poverty and they offer us sexual liberation!!!

“Silent tears roll down for Africa in a modern world that can neither see our pain nor hear our cry for help.

“We mourn deeply because of the destructive seeds of sexual revolution which were sown last week in Addis Ababa.

“The pain is almost unbearable to imagine the effects of a sexual revolution on a Continent that is already heavily laden with much human suffering.

“And so we weep bitterly.

“We weep not just for ourselves but for our children who will reap the devastating dividends of this extensive contraceptive project in the future.

“Ever since Melinda Gates unveiled and unleashed her extensive and expensive contraception project in Africa more than a year ago, millions of dollars have been spent across the Continent leading to a reactive trend of events like the increased efforts among our African leaders to expand access to contraception, the launching of more population control initiatives in various parts of Africa, the stronger and more insistent push for legalized abortion in many African countries, the increased amounts of government money being diverted (from other development projects) to be channeled into providing birth control and subsequently, an undeniable increase in the usage of artificial contraception in almost all parts of Africa. And yet the lives of the African women have not improved at all. They may be having more vacuous and sterile sex which is free from conception on every day of the month and every month of the year but they are certainly not better fed, they are not healthier, and they are not even more educated than before Melinda’s project and therefore they are not more empowered. This project has failed the African women on every single note!

“I have begged and appealed to Melinda Gates last year when she tripped the switch of population control in Africa and I will readily do it again today with much respect where it is due.

“The African women deserve so much more than this humanitarian project that promises them nothing more than sexual liberty above all else.

“And as you inadvertently flood our nations with birth control pills, injectables, Intra Uterine devices and condoms, our culture is being drowned out by your own, our priority is being replaced by your own, our opinion is being eclipsed by your own and our value is being swallowed up by your own.

“We highly respect, and dare not define, your western sensitivities and values, please mercifully respect our own African sensitivities and values.

“The African women deserve to stand proudly among the women of the world within the context of their own cultural sensitivities and values. They deserve to be recognized in the full esteem and stature of their radiant African femininity, beauty, and dignity that is firmly rooted in a vibrant culture of life and family.”

Fr. Pavone: Albuquerque Effort To End Late-Term Abortion Is Just A First Step

Wednesday, November 20th, 2013

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: November 19, 2013

Contact: Leslie Palma
347-286-7277

NEW YORK, NY – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, released the following statement regarding the defeat of a proposed 20-week ban on abortion in Albuquerque:

“Pro-lifers in Albuquerque and elsewhere should not feel discouraged about the defeat of the effort to protect unborn babies from 20 weeks forward. It is a brilliant strategy and we will see to it that this effort is introduced in other cities and states. The fact is, of course, that children have in fact been saved through this effort, simply because we have raised the issue of fetal pain, which does not even cross the minds of many abortionists.

“The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act has been introduced in the U.S. Senate and already passed by the House. This effort in Albuquerque has helped raise awareness of the inhumanity of a procedure that can no longer hide behind the euphemism of choice. We will build on that awareness to pass this measure on the federal level.

#ABQ4Life Vote is Critical

baby being rescued

Womb babies are under siege and until legal abortion ends, they are all under the bus. We must continue to rescue them one battle at a time while increasing the frontline attacks to end the scourge.

Firefighters rescue people from burning buildings sometimes in droves and sometimes one at a time. Yet, a life saved is a life saved. The same is true for the abortion war. A victory for the fetal pain ordinance in Albuquerque is critical because, if accomplished, more babies would be rescued from the abortion bus while we continue to wage and win the war.

Science teaches us that by 20 weeks, unborn babies hear and respond to their mother’ voices. They also feel the excruciating pain of the abortionists instruments as their small hearts are pierced or their fragile bodies are torn apart. Late abortion after 20 weeks not only kills the life of a pain-capable unborn child, but it wounds his or her mother.

While all abortions pose physical and psychological risks for the woman, medical risks from these brutal late abortions are markedly increased – and even include risk of death. I stand with the people of Albuquerque who are seeking to ensure that the law reflects our society’s desire to protect the innocent out of compassion both for the mother and the child.

Priests for Life Supporting Albuquerque Efforts and Beyond To Protect Pain-Capable Children

Monday, November 18th, 2013

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: November 18, 2013

Contact: Leslie Palma
347-286-7277

NEW YORK, NY — As Priests for Life urges voters in Albuquerque to support on Tuesday a measure protecting children in the womb from painful dismemberment, the organization also announced its intentions to extend this protection nationwide.

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, stated, “In regard to Albuquerque, there is only one correct way to vote in the election of November 19 and that is to vote to protect children in the womb. An up and down vote like this admits of no ambiguity. Those who fail to vote to protect these children have innocent blood on their hands. Whatever else they use their hands for in the future, the fact that they still have those hands is more than we can say about the children who will lose theirs if this measure does not pass.”

Fr. Pavone also announced that Priests for Life, which has been working for years to pass measures on the state and federal level to protect children from late-term abortion and to educate people about fetal pain, will redouble those efforts, including the following initiatives in 2014:

a) The distribution to every Church and, indeed, to every American, of the diagrams depicting dismemberment abortion (See www.priestsforlife.org/resources/medical/de.jpg);
b) Prayer campaigns to raise initiatives and pass laws to protect children from late-term abortion;
c) Working with states and cities nationwide to pass measures to protect pain-capable children;
d) Working with the US House and Senate to pass federal legislation to protect pain-capable children;
e) Educational initiatives about fetal pain and late-term abortion, including radio ads and television programs;
f) The distribution to activists of full-size posters showing the reality of dismemberment abortion;
g) Sharing the testimonies, through the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, of those who have had late-term abortions.

More information on these and related initiatives will be announced in coming weeks at www.StopDandE.com.

Janet Morana and Georgette Forney, co-founders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign (www.silentnomore.com) joined Father Pavone in urging support of the Albuquerque. In a joint statement, they said:

“Women who have late-term abortions typically have bonded with their babies, especially in cases where the health of the child or mother is at issue. Early termination to simplify a complicated pregnancy only serves to protect the doctor. The mother and family are left trying to grieve for their loss, while struggling with the stigma of abortion. We must offer better health care to women in these circumstances. Perinatal Hospice and serving both patients are better ways to approach this need.”

Dr. Alveda King, full-time director of African-American Outreach for Priests for Life, spoke of the increased risks women face when undergoing late-term abortions.

“While all abortions pose physical and psychological risks for the woman, medical risks from these brutal late abortions are markedly increased – and even include risk of death. I stand with the people of Albuquerque who are seeking to ensure that the law reflects our society’s desire to protect the innocent out of compassion both for the mother and the child.”

Albuquerque, Babies Need Your Vote!

Friday, November 15th, 2013

131115 Blog Image1

Please join Priests for Life in our prayers and efforts to further protect children in the womb by encouraging people in Albuquerque, New Mexico to vote for and support the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act that will prevent babies from experience the pain and horrors that abortion brings inside the womb of pregnant women. If passed, hundreds of babies will be rescued.

We wouldn’t do to cats and dogs what abortion is doing to kill little babies in the womb. We must act now to do the decent thing, speak up and vote for those who cannot speak for themselves.

131115 Blog Image2Early voting for this measure ended today; Father Frank Pavone, National Director of PFL is urging everyone who has not yet voted for the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act in Albuquerque to make sure they get to the polls on Tuesday. And he is urging every American to join Priests for Life in contacting every U.S. Senator on the record to ask how they would vote on a similar ban on late-term abortion because such a bill was introduced in the Senate this month by Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Father Stephen Imbarrato, who is part of the Priests for Life team as a Priest Consultant, and is founder of Project Defending Life, is in Albuquerque working for the passage of the bill.

“We are facing a well-financed pro-death force,” Father Imbarrato said. “Planned Parenthood has put huge amounts of money into this battle because they know if we win and they lose, this initiative will spread to cities all over the country. We are mounting a true grassroots get-out- the vote strategy focusing on the churches and people of faith.”

131115 Blog Image3In a 1967 Christmas sermon, my uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “The next thing we must be concerned about if we are to have peace on earth and good will toward men is the nonviolent affirmation of the sacredness of all human life. …Man is a child of God, made in His image, and therefore must be respected as such….And when we truly believe in the sacredness of human personality, we won’t exploit people, we won’t trample over people with the iron feet of oppression, we won’t kill anybody.”

In a few days, many will celebrate Thanksgiving, and Christmas will swiftly follow. One of the greatest gifts we can give to babies in the womb and their mothers is the gift of life. After all, John 3:16 teaches us that God so loved the world that He gave us the gift of Jesus Christ. God says to choose life. We can help give the gift of life and love by protecting little babies in the womb from the pain and destruction of abortion.

Father Pavone Urges Protection for Albuquerque Babies from Late-Term Abortion

Friday, November 15th, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: November 15, 2013

347-286-7277

NEW YORK, NY – Early voting on a proposal to protect unborn children in Albuquerque from late-term abortion ended today, and those who have not yet voted can go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement today in support of the measure:

“Late-term abortion has been breaking bad in Albuquerque for too long. The vote to protect children from this outrage against humanity is crucial.

“Pro-aborts have resorted to desperate measures to protect their investment in barbaric, dismemberment abortions, illegally hacking the web site of the organization supporting the ban and having a Planned Parenthood phone bank in New York calling voters in New Mexico. Those opposing the ban realize that what happens in Albuquerque next week can happen soon in Germantown, MD, Boulder, CO, and in other places where the ‘right’ to an abortion includes the right to tear a human child — who can feel pain — limb from limb in the sixth month of pregnancy and beyond. Support is already building to pass this measure in neighboring Valencia County, New Mexico, to prevent Albuquerque abortionists from simply changing their address.”

Father Pavone urged everyone who has not yet voted for the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act in Albuquerque to make sure they get to the polls on Tuesday. And he urged every American to join Priests for Life in getting every U.S. Senator on the record about how they would vote on a similar ban on late-term abortion was introduced in the Senate this month by Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Father Pavone also urged people to see exactly what these measures are protecting children from, by viewing the medical diagrams of dismemberment abortion at www.priestsforlife.org/resources/medical/de.jpg, and sending this link to others via email, website links, and social media.

Overcoming Racism, Reproductive Genocide, and Sexual Perversion with Grace and Goodness

Friday, November 15th, 2013

131115 Blog Image

“God’s grace and truth must always be at the center of our life. This is common sense.” Rev. Walter Quinn

Today I attended Mass at Priests for Life at our monthly administrative meeting where Father Walter Quinn delivered the homily. I was truly blessed to hear him confirm what had come to me earlier this morning during my daily Bible reading and meditation. In reading Ezekiel 30, I reflected on this passage:

Ezekiel 30:  17 The young men…will die in battle,
    and the women will be taken away as slaves. (NLT)

I was immediately reminded of the ongoing battle to end legal abortion in America and around the world, as well as the increase of human trafficking where our brothers and sisters are being sold into slavery as human commodities traded as objects of sexual depravity, and even in some cases having their lives sacrificed so that their organs and body parts can be bartered.

Then haunting images of the typhoon ravaged Philippines loomed large in my thoughts as Father Quinn reminded us that Jesus is the answer to our problems. There seems to be a blindness, a disconnect in the minds and hearts of the people who don’t understand that disasters of any sort are not natural, but are brought to bear because of human beings failing to treat others as we wish to be treated.

We squabble over racism and ethnic issues, sexual issues, family issues and so many questions without truly seeking the common and natural answer.

There is another scripture that surfaces in my heart as I gain insight, courage and hope from time spent with God and then reflecting on His message from Father Quinn. Where sin abounds, grace abounds that much more:

Romans 5:20 God’s law was given so that all people could see

how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more,

God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. (NLT)

And another; don’t be overcome by evil; overcome evil with good (for God is Good!).

Romans 12: 21 Don’t let evil conquer you;

instead, conquer evil by doing good. (NLTm)

For some reason, during Thanksgiving and Christmas my heart opens wider to include those who might be having a hard time and are suffering while others are enjoying God’s bounty. As my heart opens up to them, the holidays become sweeter. Knowing that I have one gift that I can give to everyone – and that gift is the knowledge of God’s love for them makes hope abound in the midst of despair.

So I invite you to join me during this season of delivering hope and love through prayer and giving. It will make the world brighter and our own burdens lighter.
