American Heritage Girls

American Heritage Girls Respect Life Badge

AHG is a common sense inter-denominational faith-based character-development program for girls ages five through 18. My family embraces their Biblical worldview, traditional Christian values and critical thinking opportunities. Their recent announcement of a Respect Life Patch reinforcing AHG’s commitment to honoring life from conception to natural death is a breath of fresh air and a beacon of truth.

American Heritage Girls is a wonderful faith-based alternative to the Girl Scouts. It promotes a life-honoring culture, stresses the importance of service and espouses values that clearly delineate right from wrong. I also write about many of these shared values in my new book KING RULES, a Thomas Nelson release.

AHG girls participate in a wide array of badge programs, service projects, leadership opportunities and outdoor experiences. Troops representing more than 30,000 girls in 48 states can earn the Respect Life Patch by participating in an event that brings attention to respecting life or by providing a service project for an organization whose mission/purpose demonstrates a desire to respect life, such as pregnancy resource centers, pro-life groups and hospices.

When my Uncle ML spoke about his dream for a day when his children ‘will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character,’ the character he had in mind was founded on the teachings of the Bible, which include respect for life. With all the talk we hear today about choice, it seems that the choice of life is often overlooked and undervalued. I’m gratified that American Heritage Girls stresses the value God places on each individual and the importance of living a life that is pleasing to Him.

“We are honored to have Alveda’s endorsement and support,” says Patti Garibay, AHG executive director and founder. “She has been a tireless advocate for the unborn and a person whose life is dedicated to glorifying God in everything she does.”

Founded in 1995 in Cincinnati, Ohio, AHG currently has more than 30,000 members across the globe, with more than 720 troops in 48 states. In the past four years, it has experienced 40-50 percent membership growth annually.

Abortions Are Down Some: Still Not Safe and Rare, Especially in Black Neighborhoods

Wednesday, February 19th, 2014

The abortion lobby is scrambling to take credit for a decline in abortions while hiding the truth that abortions are still disproportionally high in Black Communities. In the pro-life world, we have been working very hard to bring not only a decrease in abortion rates, but to make abortion UNTHINKABLE across the board!

Yet, we still face the issue of African American communities being targeted by the abortion lobby while claiming to make abortions “safe, legal and rare.” For instance, in New York and in some cases nationally, abortions are down due to diligent pro-life strategies such as prayer, legislative awareness, public awareness, pregnancy care centers, abortion healing, African American and all minority awareness, aggressive media outreach, etc. Still in NY Black abortions remain upside down, 2 abortions to 1 live birth.

Agencies like The Chiaroscuro Foundation, a not-for-profit organization seeking to reduce the number of abortions in New York and provide pregnant women with viable alternatives to abortion, note the decline and are cautiously optimistic. In a recent statement, they report:

“New York City’s abortion ratio dropped substantially in 2012, according to data released by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene last week. While the City’s abortion rate is still nearly twice the national average, the progress is encouraging.

“We have been raising awareness about New York City’s high rate of abortion for the past four years, and we are certainly encouraged by the progress made during that time,” said Greg Pfundstein, president of the Chiaroscuro Foundation. “We will continue to work with community leaders, churches, and organization who share our concern about this problem and to help women facing unplanned pregnancies find the support they need in their communities.

“The City’s claim that increased use of contraception is the cause of the substantial decline is quite perplexing, though,” Mr. Pfundstein continued. “While the CDC through its comprehensive National Survey of Family Growth has found steadily declining rates of teenage sexual activity, they have not found substantial increases in contraceptive use. And the City has been pushing Plan B for several years, which studies show does not decrease the pregnancy rate. If the City has data proving their claim, they should make it available to the public.”

“The abortion ratio citywide fell to just over 37% in 2012-a record low since 1970 when abortion was legalized in New York. The Bronx continues to lead the city with an abortion ratio of 47%. The largest drop in the abortion ratio was in Brooklyn, which saw the ratio drop from 37% to 34%. Staten Island continues to have the lowest ratio at 29%. The ratio of abortions for African-American women remained highest in the city in 2012 at 55.9%, down from nearly 60% in 2009. Asian and Pacific Island women had the lowest ratio at 17.5%. City abortion data from 1994-2012, broken down by borough and ethnicity, is available at our website.

“Despite an overall reduction in abortions, some areas-primarily minority or low income neighborhoods-continue to experience a disproportionate number of abortions. “We were pleased with the progress, but we still have a long way to go, especially in meeting the needs of poor and minority women,” said Molly O’Connor, communications director of the Chiaroscuro Foundation.

“Of the 197,046 viable pregnancies in New York City in 2012, 73,815 were terminated by abortion. 1,832, or 2.48%, of the abortions performed in the City in 2012 were performed at gestational ages of 21 weeks or later.

“It’s time we look at the resources we’re providing pregnant women in need,” O’Connor said. “Local churches, community organizations, and neighbors are crucial to delivering services and support that empower women to choose alternatives to abortion.”

Fr. Pavone Invites Pro-lifers to Sign Open Letter to President Obama Following Outrageous Omissions in Prayer Breakfast Speech

Washington, DC — Responding to President Obama’s speech at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Feb. 6, Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, has written an open letter to the President that he is asking all pro-life people to sign on to.

The letter also contains a link to the full text of the President’s speech.

“This speech raises troubling contradictions, and a glaring blind spot, about which we cannot be silent,” Fr. Pavone declares.

Among the troubling aspects of the speech, Fr. Pavone points out that the President, while upholding consistently a policy of abortion on demand, states, “the killing of the innocent is the ultimate betrayal of God’s will.”

And, while trying to force Americans to violate their faith through the HHS mandate, the President states in his speech, “Central to [human] dignity is freedom of religion — the right of every person to practice their faith how they choose.”

Fr. Pavone has promised those who sign on to the letter that he will deliver it personally to the proper people at the White House. Will it have an impact? Fr. Pavone explains, “We do not think that by writing the President a letter, he is suddenly going to have a Saint Paul conversion. That’s not what we’re doing here. But it is still essential to write to him publicly for the sake of helping the public to reject his errors, and to demand of him, as the letter says, an accounting to the American people as to why and how, in that speech, he would tolerate a blind spot so large as to swallow up the very principles that he spends the rest of the speech vigorously proclaiming.”

All are invited to sign the open letter today, which is President’s Day!

The letter can also be accessed at www.LetterToObama.org

Crazy Valentine’s Day Pitch by PPH and Cecile Richards

Friday, February 14th, 2014

140214 Blog Image

An Open Letter to Cecile Richards

Really Cecile, are you truly promoting a romantic abortion theme for Valentine’s Day? You and your new sidekick Nancy Pelosi are really a pair. First, just before Valentine’s Day, Planned Parenthood announces that you will give Ms. Pelosi the PPH Margaret Sanger Award, and then you follow up with a Valentine’s Day twitter feed with a picture of you sporting a heart poster that reads #whatwomenneed for Valentine’s Day – safe + legal abortion.

Now you are using your bully pit to devalue Agape Love and Romantic Love, to promote abortion? When will you ever stop? Perhaps you don’t realize that women actually deserve love, respect and life affirming support rather than your fertility blocking abusive agenda that ends the life of innocent babies, while often maiming, if not killing, their mothers.

My friend Janet Morana has written an informative book, RECALL ABORTION that all of your supporters need to read. Abortion is bad business, and is a really bad product, and you want to gift the women of America and the world with abortion.

My, my, my Ms. Richards. You have duped the women of America and the world for far too long. You don’t love us at all. You love your terrible agenda. I wonder if there is any love in your heart at all, or if all of your soul is connected to the big checks that PPH keeps racking up in the name of abortion?

Somehow, I must pray for the heart to pray for you and your followers. So much harm is wrapped up in your poison candy box, which reminds me of the spindle prick that put Sleeping Beauty to sleep or the apple the wicked stepmother gave to Snow White that caused her to fall to sleep, too. You had millions and millions fooled for far too long, so over 55 million babies are dead since your tarnished victory in 1973.

Well Ma’am, the women of American and the world have been asleep for far too long; because too many fell for your legal abortion and carcinogenic contraception lies. Stop lying to women Cecile. Abortions hurt women and kill babies.

My abortion hurt me and killed my babies. I know the truth now, Planned Parenthood lied to me. Planned Parenthood lied to my uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Planned Parenthood is lying today and so are you! Dear Ms. Richards: Women need love, dignity, support and respect – NOT ABORTIONS!

Father Pavone Responds to UN Committee’s Attack on Holy See

NEW YORK, NY — Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement today regarding the publication of the Concluding Observations by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) following review of the report submitted by the Holy See. The observations were highly critical of the Church’s moral teachings on abortion, contraception and homosexuality.

Father Pavone said: “It’s outrageous that a UN committee that is supposed to safeguard the rights of children is instructing the Holy See that it must change Canon Law in order to determine the circumstances under which the lives of preborn children can be destroyed in abortion.

“Abortion is a death sentence to children and can never be condoned.”

He continued: “The arrogance displayed by those who crafted this document is equal only to their ignorance and failure to understand that the Holy See is unwavering as it upholds the dignity of all life from conception to natural death.

“The comments issued by this UN committee on abortion, contraception for youth and the promotion of homosexuality reveal the growing radicalization of UN treaty bodies. This assault on the basic principles of the Holy See and the Catholic Church will hopefully serve as a wake-up call to faithful Catholics around the world who have not yet realized the great struggles for life and family taking place at the United Nations.”

Alveda King: Pelosi Deserves Sanger Award for Trampling on Human Rights; Martin Luther King, Jr. Would Reject It Today

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: February 4, 2014

Contact: Leslie Palma
347-286-7277

ATLANTA — Dr. Alveda King, director of African American Outreach for Priests for Life, reacted today to the announcement that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will receive Planned Parenthood’s Margaret Sanger Award.

“It’s true that Congresswoman Pelosi deserves Planned Parenthood’s Margaret Sanger Award – almost no one has done more to promote the killing of innocent babies in the womb than she has,” noted Dr. King. “If Mrs. Pelosi wants finally to take her role as a public servant seriously, though, she will reject the award named after a racist woman who had no problem speaking to a Ku Klux Klan meeting.”

The Sanger Award has been given annually by Planned Parenthood since 1966, when the Rev. Dr. Luther King, Jr., Alveda King’s uncle, was named, but did not personally accept one of the first four citations.

“It’s ironic that Planned Parenthood would extend to my uncle an award for his human rights work,” Dr. King continued. “I can’t think of an organization that has done more to trample upon human rights than Planned Parenthood.”

“Of course, in 1966, Planned Parenthood did not advocate for abortion and its racist roots were not well known,” added Dr. King. “Knowing what we know now and 56 million dead children later, I’m confident that the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., a man who gave his life defending others’ rights to life and liberty, would reject any association with Planned Parenthood.”

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, drew a tsunami of support last year when he wrote an open letter to Mrs. Pelosi, challenging her claim to being a faithful and practicing Catholic while spreading a message that abortion is “sacred ground.”

Regarding her upcoming Planned Parenthood award, he said: “Nancy Pelosi receives this less-than-prestigious award, yet is unable to explain why she supports dismembering children. We should continue to demand that she do so. Sign on to LetterToNancy.com.”

Fr. Pavone: We Are Closer To Our Goal of Ending Abortion

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: February 4, 2014

Contact: Leslie Palma
347-286-7277

NEW YORK, NY — Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement today regarding a new report that found the abortion rate in the U.S. in 2011 was lower than it has been in three decades.

“Abortions are declining. The two sides of the abortion debate disagree as to why, but I agree with the assessment of the National Right to Life Committee that the Guttmacher Institute does not give due attention to how the public debate over the status of the unborn child in our society has contributed to the decline in the numbers,” Fr. Pavone said.

“A decline in abortion, for whatever reason, leads us closer to our goal of protecting children in the womb by law, because the fewer abortions there are, the more legislators will consider it realistic to change public policy on the matter, and the more judges will consider it prudent to uphold such changes.”

As the Marriage Battle Rages, Let Mercy Prevail

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

black-married-couple

“When a moral person is confronted with contempt, immorality, disloyalty, or dishonesty, he is so repulsed by the offense that he turns away and in despair closes his heart to the offender. But the miracle of the redemptive reality of God is that the worst and vilest offender can never exhaust the depths of God’s love.” –C. S. Lewis

Love, Marriage and Life should be a package; as in man meets woman, they fall in love, marry and have children. That’s an ideal, designed by God.

In the paradise of Eden, God first formed Man, then formed his mate and presented her to him. Woah! Love at first sight. Man and (Wo)Man. By their Holy Union they became our ancestors, the first “human parents; birthing the original “human family.” One man and one woman; married by God.

Due to outside influences and our original ancestors’ broken relationship with God, things became tangled up after that and have been for a long time. Admittedly while the marriage model was never broken, it has been misunderstood, bruised, sometimes tarnished and often challenged. As a result, in the 21st Century, we are teetering on a civil war over human sexuality issues.

A lot of blood has been shed in the aftermath of the war over the human family; animal blood sacrifices, innocent human blood (abortions). God help us please. Teach us to plead the sacred Blood of Jesus!

There is too much accusing and too little truth and mercy abroad in this present battle. Let us consider our frail humanity and approach each other with fear of judgment, pleading for mercy.

“For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.” (James 2:13 ESV)

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”(Hebrews 4:16 ESV)

We need not only to know the truth; we need to help people to see and know the truth.

May God grant MERCY and deliverance to all in this matter of Holy Matrimony and human sexuality. Mercy does not condone the sexual behaviors at issue. Mercy shares the truth of God’s Word in Agape Love. Mercy loves those who are without understanding of His divine grace and love for the accused and the accusers.

“For all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory.” ALL. It’s sadly hypocritical to publicly proclaim that “God hates the sin but loves the sinner”; while all the time we secretly sneer and use ugly names to brand others.

On the other hand, it’s critically intolerant to bad mouth Bible believers and deny our Constitutional Rights for holding to our standards of faith while insisting that we be tolerant of contrasting views.

Sin is real, repentance is a gift. May we all be free to “go and sin no more.” Let us deliver truth that shines light with a heart to bring liberty as part of the judgment process.

Fifty Years After the Civil Rights Act, It’s Time for Congress to Fight Race and Sex-Based Discrimination Again

Monday, February 3rd, 2014

140123 I Am a Human

“If a mother can kill her own child – what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me – there is nothing between.” ―Mother Teresa

Should you be killed because of your race? Congressman Trent Franks and perhaps millions of Americans don’t think so. But you wouldn’t know it by looking at the congressional record or lack thereof of genuine legislation that combats racism on every front; beginning with our children in the wombs of oppressed mothers.

Not long ago, Congressman Franks bravely introduced a bill in Congress to answer the issue regarding race selection abortions and sex-based abortions. Yes, among the many reasons babies are aborted includes not wanting a girl or a boy; or not wanted a “mixed” or ethnically blended baby. Unbelievable but true; people sometimes abort babies for these reasons. The PRENDA Bill (Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act) responds to this mentality with a resounding “No!” The problem is that PRENDA was watered down the first time around; by excluding the race provision and weakly supporting the sex-based clause. The initial bill didn’t pass, and for certain political reasons, including closet racism, it hasn’t been receiving much attention since that time.

Racism isn’t new and has not been eradicated even until now in the 21st Century. Racism still wears many hats and faces. For example, recently an MSNBC employee stirred up racial strife with a tweet over a Cheerios Cereal Commercial featuring an interracial family. “Maybe the rightwing will hate it, but everyone else will go awww: the adorable new #Cheerios ad w/biracial family.” was what was tweeted. Well, the conservative community didn’t roll over and play dead. There was a big hue and cry because of the unseemly race baiting complications.

For the majority of our nation’s history, there have been people who, while giving lip service to racial equality, secretly support racism, including race selection abortions by looking the other way against the truth; or even going so far as to support genocidal eugenics organizations like Planned Parenthood out in the open. Racism isn’t new; for centuries, lethal beatings, shootings, and lynching of African Americans happened all too frequently and, in numbers that will never be known, without official notice or legal consequence. The same thing is happening with abortion today. Undocumented race abortions and sex-based abortions are happening without official notice or legal consequence.

Fifty years ago, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 promised to change that racial climate in America. Following the passage of that historic law, our federal government had a new basis upon which to prosecute those who took innocent lives on the basis of race – the denial of the victims’ civil rights.

This year, let’s include the womb babies in the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. Let’s regard everyone’s dignity and civil rights as worthy of equal protection under the law; for the born and pre-born.

By law, from the moment after we’re born, we are not to be discriminated against because of our race or our sex. Without PRENDA however, during all the moments before a baby is born, he or she can be denied civil and human rights because of race, sex, or for any reason at all.

“When we truly believe in the sacredness of human personality, we won’t exploit people, we won’t trample over people with the iron feet of oppression, we won’t kill anybody.” — Dr. MLK 1967 Christmas Sermon

For much of our history and in more places than we’d like to admit, African Americans could be kidnapped, beaten, and left in shallow unmarked graves. Today, if you’re still growing in the womb you can be grabbed, dismembered, and your remains hauled away with no one ever hearing of you again.

We had “non-persons” then; we have “non-persons” now. PRENDA can help level the playing field.

PRENDA is simple, direct, and should be non-controversial. It just declares that an abortionist cannot perform an abortion if he knows that it’s being done because of the race or sex of the child or the race of a parent. What’s more, the bill states that no one can coerce a woman into having an abortion because of the race or sex of her baby.

Urge Congress to help end racism and end the war on women. Urge a PRENDA re-vote with a unanimous PASS.
