Grandparents tend to say the same thing: They had no idea that complete, unconditional love would fill their hearts the first time they set eyes on a new grandson or granddaughter.

Similarly, grandparents of aborted children had no idea how deep the wound would be when that grandson or granddaughter was lost.

The Silent No More Awareness Campaign’s Healing the Shockwaves of Abortion initiative in March is dedicated to healing the wounds of these grandparents.

“Grandparents can play many different roles in an abortion,” said Janet Morana, co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign. “They may have condoned it, or coerced it, or opposed it. They may not have known about it for days, months or even years later. But these abortions leave a hole in their hearts, no matter what their involvement was. I know this from experience, because I lost two grandchildren to abortion.”

In 2015, the Silent No More Awareness Campaign gatherings at the March for Life in Washington, D.C., and the Walk for Life West Coast in San Francisco, highlighted people who mourned their lost grandchildren. Since then, many grandparents have come forward to say that, they, too, mourn the loss of a grandchild.

“Helping grandparents acknowledge unresolved pain, whether it is guilt or grief can prevent generations to come from repeating the cycle of silence that often destroys the critical connections we need in families,” said Georgette Forney, co-founder of Silent No More. “While abortion tears family bonds, healing, forgiveness and reconciliation between a grandparent and a parent and an aborted baby can restore them.”

Kevin Burke, LSW, who leads the Fatherhood Forever initiative at Silent No More said that “grandfathers know that their son or daughter’s abortion was a deeply painful experience for their family…but they rarely consider their own personal need to grieve the loss of their grandchild. Sometimes it’s only when men become grandfathers and are intimately involved in caring for their grandchild, that long-repressed post-abortion grief can surface. Grandparents, after they grieve, and heal can encourage reconciliation and healing for the entire family.”

A goal of the Shockwaves initiative is to make sure that grandparents know that abortion grief is real, that they are not alone, and that healing is available.

Visitors to www.AbortionShockwaves.com can click on “March” and then “Healing Resources” to find programs nearby that can help. Those who have been healed are invited to join the Silent No More Awareness Campaign at any level they feel comfortable, even if it just registering their regret for the role they played in the abortion.

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life and pastoral director of Silent No More, called upon clergy to get on board with Shockwaves and help spread the message.

“Many of the people sitting in the pews each Sunday are hiding the pain and shame of an abortion wound,” he said. “It’s time to give them the courage to step back into the light and find the peace of Christ and the welcome of his Church.”

The Campaign began November 11th, 2002. As of February 2015, the Silent No More Awareness Campaign has held 1,436 Gatherings in 17 countries & 48 states with 5,934 women and men sharing their abortion testimonies. Testimonies have also been shared at 104 high schools and universities in the last 4 years, 26 in 2014. There are 2,233 testimonies posted on the Campaign website, with 332 that are shared via video! Currently there are 16,225 people registered with the Campaign representing 77 countries. People who are not ready to join the Campaign, are invited to register their regret. So far, 4,890 women and 573 men have said they regret their abortion or lost fatherhood. Another 552 women and men have posted memorials to their children.

Dr. Alveda King to Congressional Black Caucus: Realignment is Critical

Israel faces annihilation from Iran, a sponsor of terrorism that is developing nuclear weapons. It faces terror attacks from radical Islamists on every side. The leader of Israel comes to our Capitol at one of the most critical junctures in his nation’s history and what do members of the Congressional Black Caucus do?

They plan to boycott Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel.

Why? Pride and quibbles over protocol, citing disrespect to President Obama from the Prime Minister because he didn’t clear his trip with the White House before accepting Speaker Boehner’s invitation.

But since when do you turn your back on an old friend over an alleged sleight? What kind of person turns his nose in the air when a trusted ally who faces death wants to talk with you?

Let’s not forget that Prime Minister Netanyahu has not always been treated graciously at the White House. And let’s not forget that one of the President’s chief campaign strategists is right now actively working in Israel to defeat Mr. Netanyahu in Israel’s upcoming election. If one wants to find reasons to be offended, the Prime Minister doesn’t have to look too far.

This is not the first time the CBC has placed politics above people’s lives. Black Caucus members have placed slavish party loyalty above the lives of our most oppressed and helpless brothers and sisters – the unborn. They have turned their backs on children in the womb, the victims of horrifying violence, and now they turn their backs on the leader of Israel, the home God gave to His chosen people.

God promised Abraham, the father of the Hebrew and Arab nations that He would bless his seed. He made no exception that said, “But it’s OK if you walk out on the leader of My chosen people for your pride’s sake.” God said to Isaac’s children, “I will bless you abundantly.” God also promised to abundantly bless Ishmael’s children. So God is impartial with His love to all of His Children. The Congressional Black Caucus would do well to remember the words of Martin Luther King: “We must learn to live together as brothers [and sisters] or perish together as fools.” Perhaps there is a way to negotiate peaceful nonviolent conflict in the world if we can get past the enemy of pride.

God instructs us, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” We puff ourselves up at our own peril. But while the only peril the Congressional Black Caucus sees is damage to the President’s prestige, the peril Prime Minister Netanyahu faces is the nuclear destruction of his entire nation. The Congressional Black Caucus needs a reality check.

And the reality check is this – ultimately, there is no escape for the sin of pride or for the sin of abortion or for any other sin, except through the redeeming work of Jesus on the cross. It’s time that the Congressional Black Caucus look to God and His Word instead of President Obama, Planned Parenthood, or some political playbook.

When we look to God, we see our pride melt away, we see to whom glory is due, and we see our friends as more important than ourselves. We see leadership as servanthood, serving God and serving others – not ourselves. Our priorities are realigned.

The Congressional Black Caucus needs realignment. It should turn its back on selfish pride and extend a welcoming hand to Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Father Denis Wilde, OSA, and Janet Morana are the co-hosts of EWTN’s “Defending Life” series. The new season debuts March 4.

What was St. John Paul II going to announce the day he was shot in Vatican Square?

How does abortion in the military affect a soldier’s readiness for battle?

What happens to abortion clinic workers who fail to report the abuses they see every day?

These provocative questions – and many more – will be answered in the new season of Defending Life on EWTN.

The new season – the 27th since the series began in 1995 – will premiere this week. It can be seen at 2:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday, March 4, and again at 11 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 5.

Hosts Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life, and Fr. Denis Wilde, OSA, Associate Director, also will spend several episodes highlighting Shockwaves, the powerful new initiative of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign. The aim of Shockwaves is to raise awareness of the fact that the damage abortion causes touches everyone – mothers and fathers, grandparents, siblings, friends, abortion clinic workers, abortionists, and even pro-life activists – and to let all of these people know that healing is available.

“On Defending Life, we concentrate on news you can use,” Mrs. Morana said. “It’s our hope that our viewers learn something new in every episode that they can make part of their pro-life toolbox.”

There’s no doubt the show has influenced viewers over the years.

Eleanor McCullen, who last year was victorious at the U.S. Supreme Court in a case that challenged the constitutionality of a 35-foot buffer zone around Massachusetts abortion clinics, had this to say about Defending Life, which she has been watching since the 1990s:

“I saw the passion and vision of Father Frank Pavone and I loved what he was doing. He stepped out in a leap of faith and the Lord ran with him.”

Tamah, a member of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign who does sidewalk counseling in Nashville, watched an episode featuring former Planned Parenthood worker Catherine Adair, and immediately sent us an email:

“Thank you so much. I just finished watching Defending Life which featured Catherine Adair. Her testimony was so full of truth and information and I am so happy I saw this tonight! I can use so much of her info in sidewalk counseling at Planned Parenthood downtown in Nashville. The program was great!”

Mark your calendars or set your DVRs to catch the show. For more information about each episode, go to www.defendinglife.tv

“There is no ‘filler’ in our show,” said Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life. “We pack each episode with information that those on the frontlines of the abortion battle with us can use the next day.”

Priests for Life is the nation’s largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia. For more information, visit www.priestsforlife.org.
