NEW YORK — Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life and President of the National Pro-Life Religious Council, called the recent blessing of an abortion clinic by members of the Ohio Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice “a perversion of Biblical teaching.”

“For clergy to bless an abortion clinic is contrary to the two central commands of the Christian faith – to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love each other as ourselves,” said Fr. Pavone. “We cannot claim to love God or each other by helping those who kill our brothers and sisters.”

“Moreover, this breaks the commandment You shall not use the name of the Lord your God in vain. This commandment does not only prohibit cursing by invoking God’s name. It also prohibits blessing in God’s name that which God abhors,” Fr. Pavone stated.

Liberal clergy members gathered earlier this month at Cleveland’s Preterm abortion clinic to bless it. Preterm is the business where 22-year-old Lakisha Wilson received a late-term abortion that resulted in her death only last year.

The National Pro-life Religious Council has published a book called Holy Abortion? A Theological Critique of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, which documents and responds to the kind of activities on display in this recent abortion clinic blessing.

“Not only does this contradict Christian teaching,” Fr. Pavone continued, “but it impedes the healing of those who suffer after their abortion. After all, why ask forgiveness or feel bad about an action the Church blesses? The result, however, is not that these individuals stop feeling pain; it is that they feel ashamed to ask for forgiveness, and feel silly for feeling sad.”

Fr. Pavone: Don’t Rely on Planned Parenthood’s Words

NEW YORK – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life and author of Abolishing Abortion, released the following statement today regarding Planned Parenthood’s announcement that it will no longer accept “reimbursement” for the organs, limbs and skin of the children it aborts.

“One thing we have learned over the last four decades about the abortion industry is that – as an industry – it neither desires nor is capable of reform. Today’s announcement by Planned Parenthood is meaningless and does not settle any controversy. Nor does it answer any of the questions that the ongoing investigations into Planned Parenthood’s actions have raised. You can’t practice vice virtuously.

“Given the atrocities Planned Parenthood commits against children, it cannot be trusted to suddenly begin mending its ways. We do not rely on their words; we rely on the evidence that the investigations will continue to uncover – and so should the American people.”

Priests for Life Medical Advisor Testifies Before Congressional Committee

Tuesday, October 13th, 2015

Anthony-Levatino-testifying

When testifying before the House Judiciary Committee, Priests for Life medical advisor Dr. Anthony Levatino succeeded in introducing into the Congressional record a covertly recorded video about third-trimester abortion. It created quite a stir among committee members.

The House committee is looking into Planned Parenthood and the possibility that it is profiting illegally from the sale of baby body parts. Dr. Levatino, who has testified before Congress numerous times, decided he wanted to describe exactly how a late-term abortion is performed and to show panel members, and the American people, how women are treated during the procedure.

Of the five minutes he was allotted, Dr. Levatino spent half describing a dismemberment abortion that literally tears a baby apart. This type of abortion is used for most second-trimester abortions, and Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards admitted in her prior testimony before the committee that Planned Parenthood aborts babies up until the point of viability.

The second half of Dr. Levatino’s testimony was spent showing a shortened version of a Live Action video of an interaction between a woman who is 27 weeks pregnant and Southwest Women’s Options, an Albuquerque abortion clinic that aborts children up until their due date. During a telephone call, a clinic worker and an abortionist calmly tell the woman that an abortion at 25 weeks is $8,000, and the cost goes up $1,000 every week past that. They explain that the baby will be killed in the clinic by being stabbed with poison, after which labor will be induced.

The clinic worker then tells the woman what to do if she goes into labor while she is in her hotel room: Unlock the door, call the clinic, and sit on the toilet. “You don’t gotta look down,” she is told.

Dr. Levatino said several things in the video were illustrative.

“At $8,000, and $1,000 a week for every week after 25, most of the money made from that abortion is profit,” he said. “There’s a striking difference between standard OB care costs for a pre-term delivery and what they’re charging. In reality, women are paying extra for a dead baby.”

The second thing that struck Dr. Levatino is that women can be “left to labor in hotel rooms with no medical intervention. This is not medical care.”

Dr. Levatino said Democrats on the panel were determined not to allow it into the official record of the hearing and because there were not enough Republicans in the room when a vote was taken, they succeeded in having it withdrawn. But a second vote taken when Republicans had returned allowed the video to be entered.

“There was a lot of yelling,” Dr. Levatino said. “I think the Democrats found it embarrassing. They bark about a woman’s right to choose but so many people don’t know exactly what these women are choosing. They sure as heck didn’t want that kind of video in an official record.”

National Memorial Service to be Held for Babies Killed by Abortionist Kermit Gosnell

PHILADELPHIA – The Pro-Life Leadership Coalition has announced that on Saturday, October 24, there will be a national memorial service at the gravesite of the babies killed by Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell and discovered in jars, boxes, and milk cartons when his clinic was raided in 2010. Convicted in 2013 for killing babies born alive, Gosnell is in prison for life.

The service will be held, with the support of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office for Life and Family, at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia at 12 noon, and is cosponsored by the National Day of Remembrance. It will be interdenominational, and all are invited.

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, stated, “The Medical Examiner’s office refused to allow the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the Charismatic Episcopal Church, or Priests for Life to bury these babies, despite repeated private and public requests from them and other groups. Now that the babies have been unceremoniously cremated and buried, it is long overdue that there be a public religious service to honor them. We will do that on October 24, and we invite all concerned people from around the nation to join us.”

Archbishop Craig Bates, Patriarch of the International Communion of the Charismatic Episcopal Church, and one of the religious leaders who will be at the service, stated, “The Church has always had an obligation to pray for those who are dying and to commit the departed to the merciful hands of God. These babies were murdered for profit. Our Christian conscience demands that we provide a burial for these innocent victims. It is the decent and right thing to do. We know that these babies now cry out for an end to abortion and for respect for the sanctity of all life. ”

In a ceremony held at Priests for Life on May 9, 2013, names were bestowed on these children, and those names will be read again when we come together to remember and honor them on October 24.

Alveda King: Undaunted as Mother Attacked, Mentor Dies; amidst Million Man Rumbles

Monday, October 12th, 2015

151012 blog image picture

Atlanta, GA – In a statement regarding a violent carjacking attempt on her mother Mrs. Naomi King, widow of slain civil rights activist Rev. AD King; and death of her mentor of 28 years, Pastor Allen McNair, founder of the prominent Believers’ Bible Christian Church, Alveda King had this to say:

“Last weekend was amazing. My mother, Naomi King, was accosted in a carjack attempt, and my pastor and mentor Allen McNair died. Meanwhile, the should be helpful Million Man Marchers were in DC chanting ‘down with America and the Blue Klux Klan.’ If not for the grace of God and the wisdom and sanity taught by Mother, Pastor McNair, Daddy, Granddaddy and Uncle MLK, I would have given way to despair. Still I encourage everyone to remain prayerful and undaunted.

“In a media release and open letter, Mother writes to her attacker: ‘I love you, I forgive you… You did not scare me… You frustrated me… As a loving mother, when I looked into your eyes, I thought – you have been misguided.’

“Mother went on to say that while there must be justice for the violent attack upon her person and property, we must seek solutions and opportunities for our youth so that others don’t choose this hopeless path that her attacker sought. This is the mission of the AD King foundation founded in her husband’s and my father’s honor.

“I agree with Mother. We must care for the young, the sick, the elderly and downtrodden. This is the loving message of Jesus.

“I was amazed but not surprised when Mother said: “Thinking of the attack, in a way at least what happened to me brings attention those who need a voice. Now we must act.’ This is the message of our family, our King Family Legacy; Christ centered faith, hope and love, translated into powerful nonviolent conflict resolution.”

Finally, as the weekend recedes and the challenges of today emerge, let us be encouraged, overcoming evil with good; forgiving one another and loving God, ourselves and others; learning to live together as brothers and sisters lest we perish as fools.”

Fr. Pavone Hails Creation of Panel to Investigate Planned Parenthood

Thursday, October 8th, 2015

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: October 8, 2015

347-286-7277

NEW YORK – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today released the following statement on the House of Representatives vote to create a Select Investigative Panel on Planned Parenthood:

“The creation of this select panel is another sign that Congress takes seriously the evidence that Planned Parenthood is breaking federal law and committing atrocities that should not be tolerated.

“The Democrats in Congress who claim these investigations are a waste of time or a partisan witch-hunt should stop the nonsense and admit the fact that Congress has a responsibility – and the taxpayers have a right – to know how federal funds are being used, especially when there is reason to think that they are being used contrary to the law.

“Those who claim there is no wrongdoing here should not be afraid of an investigation, but rather should welcome it as a way of clearing the air.”

Troy Newman Takes a Hit for the Cause

Tuesday, October 6th, 2015

151006 blog image

It is a shame that in today’s world one country can deny a visit from peaceful person from another country entry across their borders even when the guest is invited by one of that country’s own citizens.

That is exactly what is happening in Australia. Let’s not confuse this situation with the current immigration wars. We’re talking about a peaceful visit, not an attempt at illegal entry.

Here’s the situation. Troy Newman of the prolife activist group Operation Rescue was invited to visit Australia for a 10 day speaking tour by Australia Right to Life. While in route Troy found out that his visa has been cancelled by the Minister of Immigration, Peter Dutton at the request of a pro-abortion Member of Parliament, Terri Butler.

Terri alleges that Troy is an activist that advocates violence against abortion providers. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have known Troy for many years and have witnessed his dedication to ending abortion through peaceful means using the law to reign in a lawless industry. Through Operation Rescue, he and Cheryl Sullenger’s investigative works have exposed many abortionists and abortion centers that are operating outside the law.

Troy is no stranger to adversity. He has faced many trials in his work fighting for the unborn and I’m sure this will not be his last trial.

Troy is a prayerful faith filled man who relies on strength and direction from God.

As James 1:2-4 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” NIV

Let’s join Troy in prayer as he faces yet another trial of faith. May God continue to grant him the love, faith, grace and wisdom to persevere yet again, coming closer and closer, going from victory to victory in the goal to glorify Christ for life.

Along with the spiritual there’s the practical side of things. In an update I received recently, “they [the government of Australia] are fining us thousands of dollars in restitution! They’re charging us for a stay in jail, court fees – anything and everything they can pin on Troy.

Let’s cut to the chase here. Operation Rescue is being penalized for fighting for life. This fine is effectively a massive pro-life tax.”

If you would like to help Troy Newman and Operation Rescue click HERE and show your support for life.

If you would like to purchase his book, click HERE.

Whatever you can or cannot do, please start by lifting Troy up in prayer that God will give him the strength to endure this persecution and keep his spirits up. Stand with Troy as he takes a hit for life.

Healing the Shockwaves of Abortion in the Hispanic Community

Friday, October 2nd, 2015

347-286-7277

During the Pro-Life International Symposium at the World Meeting of Families last week, Hispanics for Life President Astrid Bennett Gutierrez said abortion advertising in the Latino community is so prevalent that it even includes coupons.

There is no doubt that, like the African-American community, Hispanics — especially those in under-privileged neighborhoods– are targeted by the unscrupulous, profit-driven abortion industry.

Healing the Hispanic Community is the focus this month of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign’s Healing the Shockwaves of Abortion initiative.

Healing the Shockwaves of Abortion is a year-long international educational and pastoral effort to raise awareness about and minister to a wide variety of groups of people who are impacted when a child dies from abortion. These groups include mothers, father, grandparents, siblings, survivors, friends, pro-life advocates and those who perform or advocate abortion.

“Through this initiative, we are trying to reach the various and diverse groups of people who have been wounded by abortion, to offer prayers, healing and solidarity,” said Father Frank Pavone, Pastoral Director of Silent No More and National Director of Priests for Life.

“Family is so important to Hispanics, and we saw that first-hand at the World Meeting, where so many Latino families traveled to be part of the celebration of the ties that bind us,” said Kevin Burke, Co-founder of Rachel’s Vineyard and an architect of Shockwaves. “But many families have been devastated by abortion and may not know how to find solace for that injury.”

Georgette Forney, President of Anglicans for Life and co-founder of Silent No More, said “As a second generation Nicaraguan, I am very aware of how sacred the family is and how personally devastated my mother was when she learned of the loss of her grandchild through abortion. I wish we had Shockwaves to help her find healing before she died. The Shockwaves initiative is critical for families of every ethnicity.”

Noting that the Latino population in the U.S. is expected to triple by the year 2050, Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life and co-founder of Silent No More, said that given Hispanics’ “growing influence in the nation’s culture, politics and religious practice, it is essential to provide the education and healing resources to help strengthen a culture of life within their families and communities.”

To learn more about Shockwaves, go to www.AbortionShockwaves.com. To arrange media interviews with Silent No More leaders or families that have been impacted by abortion, call Leslie Palma at 347-286-7277 or email her at leslie@silentnomore.com

Since the launch of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in 2003, 5,612 women and men have shared their testimonies publicly at over 1,195 gatherings in 48 states and 10 countries. More than 12,865 people representing 77 countries are registered to be Silent No More. Raising awareness about the hurtful aftermath of abortion and the help that is available to cope with the pain are two of the Campaign’s goals. The Campaign has over 1,718 testimonies posted here, with over 214 that are shared via video!

Bright Lights in the Midst of Madness

151001 blog image

Have you ever noticed that when people go to a restaurant and they get bad service they are all too willing to make a complaint? But when they get good, or even great service, they say nothing. The same is true with most services that people receive. Sure there is the occasional exception to the rule. But for the most part that’s just human nature.

That seems to be the case with news and current events. The media is all too happy to report all the chaos going on in our world but are not so quick to report on the good going on in everyday life. I guess the good news doesn’t bring in the ratings. As the saying goes, “If it bleeds, it leads.”

With everything that is going on in the world today, good is rising in the hearts of humanity. For every bad deed, there are two, although unreported, blessings to outshine them. For example, prime time TV is flooded with hyper themes of sexual temptation and violence these days. At the same time movies like WAR ROOM and WOODLAWN are receiving rave reviews.

In the music world, where many, and usually the most popular ones, songs seem to contain such graphic material, both sexual and violence, that warning labels must be printed on the cover of the albums, a less well known song, PRAY for AMERICA is resonating across the country.

A classic favorite, THIS IS MY BODY, reemerged at the World Meeting of Families. Tears flowed as hearts were recommitted for life.

The coverage of Pope Francis’ visit to Washington, New York, and Philadelphia and his much needed message of unity brought hope to many in times of many trials.

At times we are so bombarded by the evils of the world that we feel as though we, as a single individual, are helpless to do anything about it.

But, besides what is going on in the world at large, we all live in a smaller sphere in which each one of us has an influence on those around us. If we treat each other with agape love, we can change the world one person at a time. You may be the hope for that someone you run into today.

As I travel around the country speaking at various events, I sometimes like to get the audience’s participation as we sing, THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE. It reminds us that, as Matthew 5:14 says, “You [all of us] are the light of the world..” You and I are called to be a light to those around us. And together we can light up the world and darkness will have nowhere to hide.

It is said that every cloud has a silver lining. The battle for life is raging, yet we are winning.
