Black Leaders to Join Glenn Beck in DC

A group of African American Leaders will stand with Glenn Beck and David Barton in Washington, DC for the 8/28 Rally. Yours truly, Alveda King will be there. We will speak of faith, hope and love, honor of God, our families and our neighbors. Unlike those quoted in the release below, who are still fighting for the right to murder womb babies, we will be promoting human dignity for the human family. This group of Black leaders standing with Beck support good education for all children, procreative reproductive health, jobs and fair housing for everyone, good nutrition for everyone, and of course procreative marriage and life for womb babies. We honor our military, our teachers, our health care providers, and care for all the least of these, no matter what color they are! As Glenn Beck has been saying on his show, we are one human race, not separate races! Please pray that people will have the courage to stand up for truth!

African American Leaders Outraged by ‘Religious Right’ Moves to Overturn Roe v Wade
WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 — The following was released today by Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC):

RCRC Press Conference, Thursday, August 26th, 10 a.m., National Press Club, Lisagor Room

Speakers:

— Reverend Dr. Carlton W. Veazey, President and CEO, Religious Coalition
for Reproductive Choice and minister, National Baptist Convention USA;
— Reverend Walter Fauntroy, civil rights activist and Pastor Emeritus
of New Bethel Baptist Church in Washington, DC;
— Reverend Christine Wiley, co-pastor of Covenant Baptist Church in
Washington, DC.;
— Dr. Willie Parker, women’s reproductive health provider and board
member, Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health;
— Jill Morrison, senior counsel, National Women’s Law Center;
— Loretta Ross, national coordinator, SisterSong Women of Color
Reproductive Health Collaborative;
— Reverend Timothy McDonald, pastor of First Iconium Baptist Church in
Atlanta, GA, and Chair, African American Ministers in Action.

African American leaders in religion, civil rights, the law, medicine, and women’s health, organized by RCRC, address baseless and inflammatory assertions about reproductive health services in the Black community that are being made in connection with the 47th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech.

The “Religious Right” billboard campaign claiming African American children are an “endangered species” and Alveda King’s comparison of anti-abortion activists to “Freedom Riders” have sparked outrage in the African American community. Disparaging clinics that provide abortion, birth control and reproductive health services is harmful to communities struggling with high rates of unintended pregnancy, teen births and HIV/AIDS, insulting to the intelligence and values of African Americans, and offensive to women who make conscientious moral decisions about pregnancy.

“Right to Life” and other right-wing organizations started this irresponsible and offensive campaign to make inroads into African American communities to promote their own agenda – to ultimately overturn Roe v. Wade. The Black community has repeatedly rejected the “Religious Right” anti-abortion movement, realizing that if it were concerned about the health and welfare of Black children, it would support education, health care, economic security, affordable housing, and the other resources that families need.

    I cannot tell you how many times I have wanted to scream from the mountain tops that Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned (un)Parenthood was a racist bigot and those who admire her “work” must look at her motives. She planted the clinics in the most economically depressed neighborhoods of poor, non-white areas. Her own books reveal the intention. She wanted to see only those “worthy” of procreation to do so, and in her opinion, this meant only those with similar Aryan traits that Hitler admired. In fact, she and Hitler were close friends.

    I was taught that the amount of pigment a person has in their skin or their culturing only made God’s family a dynamic and interesting one. WE are God’s family. WE should not tolerate ANYONE attacking our family! This family is far too precious to sacrifice for one or two power hungry types. Each baby is precious. Their color only adds to the beauty of God’s world and I wish I could be there to stand with you and Glenn.

    In the words of my (Mexican) grandfather, “With love, you can conquer everything.” We will.

  2. Fred Morgan says:

    God Bless you Dr. King for standing for Truth and leaving the hate and PC nonsense out of your ministry. We pray for you and Glenn regularly.
    Ignorance is the tool in the hands of God’s enemy.

  3. Alveda, I praise God every time I see you on TV or hear of you and your work! You are truly carrying on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy. I feel so thankful that we have you!

    Just to let you know, we in North Las Vegas, Nevada also support our National Military Heroes, Glenn Beck, Martin Luther King, Jr., You, Sarah Palin; our Nation, Our American people, and most of all; we worship our GOD.

    Many of us here in Nevada could not come to Washington for the 8/28 Rally. Therefore, to honor what Glenn and you guys are doing in Washington, and to honor our Nevada Heroes, we have created our own City Hall Steps Rally, here in North Las Vegas.

    We will be “one” with the Washington Rally, here in North Las Vegas! And yes, our event is coordinated by me, a little dark-skinned, conservative American. Albeit, our rally will be a mixture of everybody; just like Dr. King dreamed; black, white, whatever, etc.

    If you would like to receive details of what we are doing here in Nevada, I will be glad to forward information on to you. Just let me know!

    God bless you, and keep you always,

    Yours in Christ,

    Good luck to you, the people who support you, Glenn Beck, the Black leaders who will work together to bring our country together. I have so many fears for our freedom and our country. We need people like you who will stand strong for unity instead of divisiveness.

    Bless all of you and your work.
    Thank you
