NEW YORK, NY — “Defending Life,” the longest-running and farthest-reaching television series on abortion, and “The Catholic View for Women,” a thought-provoking alternative to secular talk shows, will air new episodes on EWTN beginning this week.

“Defending Life,” which has been a part of the network lineup since 1995, will air at 2:30 a.m. ET on Wednesdays and 11 p.m. ET on Thursdays. “The Catholic View for Women” will return for a fourth season with shows airing at 11 p.m. Wednesdays and 10:30 a.m. Fridays.

Co-hosts Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life, and Father Denis Wilde, O.S.A., Associate Director, will kick off the 25th season of “Defending Life” with an episode about the importance of the November mid-term elections.

“Pope Francis urged us not to be afraid of ‘making trouble’ in order to advance the Gospel,” said Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life. “What does that say about our approach to elections?”

Future episodes will cover topics including reversing chemical abortions, pro-life successes in closing abortion mills and what it’s like to work for Planned Parenthood. High-profile guests will include Bishop Anthony Fisher, O.P., Bishop of the Diocese of Parramatta, Australia, and Robert Muise, co-founder and senior counsel of the American Freedom Law Center. Muise will discuss the Priests for Life lawsuit against the HHS mandate, which is the lead case of the religious non-profit groups, and the first to have had oral arguments heard on the appellate level. A decision is expected soon.

Muise said this lawsuit “goes to the very core of Priests for Life’s reason for existing as an organization. The ministry is well situated – and perhaps best suited – to challenge the mandate and its application to non-exempt, nonprofit religious organizations.’ ”

The fourth season of the highly rated “The Catholic View for Women” promises controversy, conversion and plenty of Catholic conversation.

EWTN Rome Bureau Chief Joan Lewis will join hosts Astrid Bennett-Gutierrez, Janet Morana and Teresa Tomeo on the first episode for a discussion of two of the Church’s newest saints: Saint John Paul II and Saint John XXIII.

Future episodes will cover topics including care of the elderly and the wisdom we can gain from people in their later years; Pope Francis and the theology of women, and becoming a “24/7 Catholic.”

Other shows in this new season are sure to ignite controversy. A four-part series will take an in-depth look at the Church’s stance on homosexuality and what Pope Francis really meant when he made his now-famous “Who am I to judge” comment.

“As we have in previous seasons, we try in each of these episodes to emphasize everything you can do as a Catholic, rather than everything you can’t do,” said Mrs. Morana, the executive director of Priests for Life and co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign. “The Catholic Church has so much to offer women, and that’s what we hope to show all of our viewers.”

Referring to “Defending Life,” Father Wilde said: “We know our shows have an impact because people often write to tell us so. One letter, written by a graduate student at Purdue University, said the show ‘has inspired me to become more proactive in my pro-life efforts’ and the young woman thanked Priests for Life for ‘informing me about the awful truth of abortion, and for encouraging me to speak out against this injustice.’ “

Priests for Life urges viewers to promote the show to parishes and pro-life organizations.

NEW YORK, NY – EWTN viewers will get an inside look at the important work being done by Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries when the 24th season of Defending Life has its premiere this week.

Hosted by Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life and co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, and Father Denis Wilde, OSA, Associate Director of Priests for Life, the show will air at 2:30 a.m. ET every Wednesday and 11 p.m. ET every Thursday. Those tuning in by radio can hear the show at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday.

The new season’s 13 episodes will introduce viewers to the Priests for Life Pastoral Team, including Bryan Kemper, the Youth Outreach Director, and Dr. Alveda King, Director of African American Outreach. Gospel of Life Ministries’ work around the globe will be highlighted by Bob Lalonde, Director of International Outreach for Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries. Mr. Lalonde also will discuss the work of the Parliamentary Network for Critical Issues, which falls under Gospel of Life Ministries. Mrs. Morana’s book “Recall Abortion” will be explored.

Other guests to appear during the season will include Wendy Wright of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, and Monica Miller of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and author of “Abandoned,” who will discuss her work in recovering the bodies of aborted babies. Couples who have shared an abortion experience and now speak out as part of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign will be featured in the season’s final two episodes.

Defending Life was born from a conversation Mother Angelica and I had in 1994,” Father Pavone recalled. “We were in her office discussing my pro-life work. She told me, ‘We need to have you tape a series on abortion!’ She picked up the phone right then and there, talked to one of the producers, and we scheduled it!”

Here’s some feedback Defending Life has received from viewers over the years.

“I had my own terrible experience with abortion years ago, but have experienced healing through Christ with His Church. I am a big fan of Father Pavone and enjoy watching Defending Life on EWTN. Thank you so much for your words of love and encouragement and hope.”

“I heard your TV program. I am a retired attorney and I work hard to save the lives of unborn children and the elderly. Your program put great arguments in my mind and I will use them.”

“The night before I was going to have an abortion, something woke me up and I saw your Defending Life program. Now I’m having my baby.”

Mrs. Morana noted that leaders of pro-life groups have told her they use the show to open their meetings and jump-start their planning on various projects.

“Every show contains good information that groups can adapt to their own needs,” she said. “Priests for Life also has resources that are available to the public to help individuals and groups increase their pro-life activism. In turn, we ask those groups to help us promote the show by announcing it on their social media sites and in their parishes.”

New season of “Defending Life” debuts July 31 on EWTN

Priests for Life

July 24, 2013

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, has announced that an exciting new season of “Defending Life” featuring dynamic guests and provocative topics will begin airing July 31 on EWTN.

Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life, and Father Scott Daniels, O.P., a Priest Associate of the ministry, will co-host this 23rd Season, which will air at 2:30 a.m. Wednesdays and 11 p.m. Thursdays. Additional broadcast times and other information is at DefendingLife.TV.

Defending Life is the longest-running and farthest-reaching series on abortion ever produced by either side of the abortion debate. It airs on the world’s largest religious media outlet. Fr. Frank Pavone began taping it in 1994 at the personal invitation of EWTN Foundress Mother Angelica.

In one episode, Mrs. Morana and Father Daniels will take an unflinching look at D&E abortion, the dismemberment procedure most often performed in the second trimester of pregnancy. This topic is particularly relevant today as more states pass laws to protect children from abortion after 20 weeks of development.

Another episode focuses on Mrs. Morana’s new book, “Recall Abortion,” and the double meaning of the word “recall” as in “remember” and as in removing a harmful product from the market.

And in a third episode, you will hear Naomi Barber King, sister-in-law of Martin Luther King Jr. , make history as she declares in Washington, DC that the “Beloved Community” includes the unborn child!

Other guests in this season include Peggy Hartshorn, president of Heartbeat International; Charmaine Yoest, president and CEO of Americans United for Life; Jeanneane Maxon, former general counsel for Carenet, and Victoria Hearst, granddaughter of media magnate William Randolph Hearst, who will discuss her transition from pro-choice to pro-life. Monsignor Philip Reilly, founder of the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants, will talk about his ministry, and David Rosa, a post-abortive dad, will discuss a powerful new movement to acknowledge the regret men feel for involvement in abortion.

“We are very excited about this season,” said Mrs. Morana, who is also the co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign and co-host of EWTN’s “The Catholic View for Women.” “Viewers will learn more about topics in the forefront of today’s pro-life movement. They will gain powerful talking points and a clearer understanding that abortion is the real war against women,” she said.

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said each season is designed to provide a realistic look at the many dimensions of the tragedy of abortion, and the progress the pro-life movement is making to counteract it.

“Our goal is to energize and empower every viewer to go out and redouble their efforts on behalf of the unborn,” Father Pavone said. “We are winning this fight!”

Father Scott Daniels makes TV debut tonight on “Defending Life”

Thursday, October 18th, 2012

Date: October 18, 2012

STATEN ISLAND, NY — Father Scott Daniels, O.P., a pastoral associate for Priests for Life, will have his television debut tonight as the new season of “Defending Life” kicks off on EWTN.

Father Daniels has been passionate about pro-life issues since his seminary days in the 1980s. Since 2009, when he was granted permission to work full-time as a priest associate with Priests for Life, he has been traveling across the country, leading pro-life parish weekends, teaching school children and speaking at pro-life events.

Tonight’s show will focus on ways to evaluate candidates for political office.

“I am thrilled to have an opportunity to co-host ‘Defending Life’ on EWTN,” Father Daniels said. “Television gives us a unique opportunity to go into people’s homes to tell the truth about the issues that really matter. With Election Day less than three weeks away, what matters now is choosing the right candidate.”

Mrs. Morana agreed.

“Voters must make sure they know how every candidate for every office feels about abortion,” she said. “The life issue is the most important at every level of government, because without the right to life, the rest of our rights are meaningless.”

The show can be seen on EWTN every Thursday at 11 p.m. and every Saturday at 2:30 a.m. It can be heard on EWTN Radio every Friday at 1 a.m., Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 5 a.m. (All times Eastern). The series also will feature Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life, as co-host, along with Fr. Denis Wilde, OSA, associate director.
