Priests for Life awaits response from Court re HHS Mandate

WASHINGTON, DC – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, will join other Americans concerned about the right to life and religious freedom at a rally in front of the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday morning, March 25, when the Court will hear oral arguments in regard to the HHS Mandate. Further Supreme Court action on this matter is expected on the 28th in regard to Priests for Life.

The rally for religious freedom will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. ET.

Planned Parenthood is also expected to bring people to rally in favor of the mandate.

The oral arguments in the consolidated cases of Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Woods will begin inside the court at 10 a.m. and conclude at 11:30 a.m.

Priests for Life has been urging people to join a novena of prayer during these days for the reversal of the mandate. The prayers for each day can be found at www.PrayerCampaign.org.

“This is a moment of Biblical proportions,” Fr. Pavone explained. “Scripture, and all Christian history, are filled with moments of conflict between civil authority and people of faith. At every point, those people are called to obey God rather than man.

“We at Priests for Life also have a lawsuit against this mandate, and in fact were among the first to file one. We too have a petition to the Supreme Court to hear our case, and the Justices will consider whether they will do so this Friday, March 28,” Fr. Pavone commented. “The case being heard on Tuesday concerns the rights of for-profit businesses; in our case, the Court would be considering the rights of non-profit religious entities. Obviously, the Court eventually needs to address both.”

In its petition to the Supreme Court on behalf of Priests for Life, the American Freedom Law Center points out, “this challenge goes to the very core of Priests for Life’s reason for existing as an organization. Consequently, Petitioners are well situated—and perhaps best suited—to challenge the mandate and its application to non-exempt, nonprofit religious organizations.” The Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit has also consolidated the case brought by the Archdiocese of Washington and its related institutions together with that of Priests for Life.

Fr. Pavone concluded, “In the end, the matter is simple: We love our faith; we love our country, and we want to be able to do both at the same time.”

Fr. Pavone Invites Pro-lifers to Sign Open Letter to President Obama Following Outrageous Omissions in Prayer Breakfast Speech

Washington, DC — Responding to President Obama’s speech at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Feb. 6, Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, has written an open letter to the President that he is asking all pro-life people to sign on to.

The letter also contains a link to the full text of the President’s speech.

“This speech raises troubling contradictions, and a glaring blind spot, about which we cannot be silent,” Fr. Pavone declares.

Among the troubling aspects of the speech, Fr. Pavone points out that the President, while upholding consistently a policy of abortion on demand, states, “the killing of the innocent is the ultimate betrayal of God’s will.”

And, while trying to force Americans to violate their faith through the HHS mandate, the President states in his speech, “Central to [human] dignity is freedom of religion — the right of every person to practice their faith how they choose.”

Fr. Pavone has promised those who sign on to the letter that he will deliver it personally to the proper people at the White House. Will it have an impact? Fr. Pavone explains, “We do not think that by writing the President a letter, he is suddenly going to have a Saint Paul conversion. That’s not what we’re doing here. But it is still essential to write to him publicly for the sake of helping the public to reject his errors, and to demand of him, as the letter says, an accounting to the American people as to why and how, in that speech, he would tolerate a blind spot so large as to swallow up the very principles that he spends the rest of the speech vigorously proclaiming.”

All are invited to sign the open letter today, which is President’s Day!

The letter can also be accessed at www.LetterToObama.org

Fr. Pavone to celebrate MLK legacy with King family in Atlanta

Friday, January 17th, 2014

On Monday, Jan. 21, Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, will join Dr. Alveda King and her family in Atlanta for observances of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Father Pavone has been honoring the legacy of the late civil rights leader with the King family for more than a decade.

“It’s been my honor to spend this time with the King family and to be part of the historic celebrations that annually mark the birth of America’s pre-eminent civil rights leader,” Father Pavone said.

He added that the proximity of the holiday with the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision serves as a good reminder that when we talk about the “unfinished business” of fulfilling the dream of Dr. King, first on the list is restoring the right to life to the children in the womb, and ending the violence of abortion.

Dr. Alveda King, the full-time director of African-American Outreach for Priests for Life, said that when Father Pavone joins her family onstage at the culmination of the main ceremony at Ebenezer Baptist Church, “We are reminded that with abortion, we still have much to overcome. We still need civil rights for the babies.”

Father Pavone will preach a sermon at 11 a.m. Sunday at Bible Believers Church, 3689 Campbellton Rd. SW in Atlanta. He also will be at the Salute to Greatness Dinner Saturday night at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta.

“As we celebrate all that Dr. King was able to accomplish, I want to invite everyone to read and sign on to the statement that some members of the King Family have signed called The Beloved Community and the Unborn. It expresses, above all, what we should be thinking and talking about during this upcoming week of pro-life and civil rights events,” Father Pavone said.

The statement can be found at www.priestsforlife.org/africanamerican/beloved-community-and-the-unborn.htm.

Renewed Priests for Life Pro-Life Training Announced

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

347-286-7277

Presentations include Archdiocese of Chicago, EWTN, and the Vatican

This week and next, Priests for Life is announcing new efforts in the pro-life education of the clergy and laity. Building on the work of the last two decades, Priests for Life will present renewed initiatives to train people how to live out their commitment to protecting human life. “The pro-life effort is not simply a cause, a movement, or a political position,” explained Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life. “All that has its place. But pro-life is, at its core, a spirituality. The Gospels and the teachings of the Church not only teach us why we are pro-life; they teach us how to live it. There are specific virtues we need, and these virtues shape pro-life activity and strategy.”

Priests for Life just produced new programs for EWTN which reflect this spirituality, and this week Fr. Frank will present it, at the invitation of the Vatican, to a conference of jurists sponsored by the Pontifical Council for the Family. Then, at the end of the week, Fr. Frank will again present this approach in Chicago.

The Archdiocese of Chicago’s Respect Life Office, with the blessing of His Eminence Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., has invited Fr. Frank to lead a special leadership retreat for Parish Respect Life Coordinators to help them spiritually and mentally prepare for Respect Life Month and another great year of pro-life parish ministry.

“Several years ago, I went to a pro-life retreat that was led by Fr. Frank, and since then, I have wanted to provide this type of experience to all of our Parish Respect Life Coordinators” said Margie Breen, Director of the Respect Life Office of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

“I first came to know of Fr. Frank Pavone and Priests for Life from Father’s appearances on several different EWTN shows. First, it was Father asking people to view the horrible abortion pictures on his Priests for Life website that got me involved in the pro-life movement. Second, I credit Father for my full time pro-life ministry. It was during one of his EWTN homilies that he asked people to leave their current full time work and find ways to work full time in the pro-life movement. I stepped out in faith, and God opened the doors to my current ministry as Respect Life Office Director. The road hasn’t been easy, but it never is when you are working to fight one of the worst injustices of our time. I am grateful to Father Frank and Priests for Life for their important ministry!,” Margie concluded.

Fr. Frank explained, “This retreat will be designed to impart the pro-life spirituality on which we have trained activists around the world for years. It is a spirituality based on the teaching, life and example of three pro-life icons whom I was privileged to know personally and who shaped profoundly my own vocation to pro-life activism: Blessed John Paul II, Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, and Cardinal John O’Connor, who ordained me to the priesthood and gave me permission to devote myself fulltime to the defense of the unborn.”

Fr. Frank added, “From its inception, Priests for Life has had a close and fruitful relationship with the Archdiocese of Chicago. When Cardinal O’Connor released me to be the first full-time director of the organization, Cardinal Bernardin of Chicago permitted Fr. Jim Heyd to be the Associate Director. Cardinal George later permitted Fr. Heyd to work with us full-time. On many occasions over the years, the Archdiocese and its parishes have welcomed Priests for Life. Now, with the exemplary work of Margie Breen, and under the inspiring leadership of Cardinal George, the Archdiocese continues to advance the pro-life cause, and I am honored to assist in that effort.”

Fr. Pavone Calls on Clergy to Pray for Former Abortionists

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: September 11, 2013

347-286-7277

NEW YORK, NY– Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement today:

“This weekend, in a private retreat, former abortion clinic workers will seek spiritual and psychological healing. Along with several colleagues, I will again be privileged to minister to these individuals, who once made their living by killing children but who now have repented and seek forgiveness.

“I ask my brother priests, and clergy of all denominations, to pray to Christ the Healer in these days, that those who come to seek this healing will have the courage to undertake the arduous task ahead of them. We will assist them to face up with complete honesty to the evil they have done, and at the same time to more deeply perceive the full weight of God’s mercy. These individuals will be asked to remember the number of lives they have taken, and to begin to re-humanize each of these children, claiming responsibility for them, apologizing for each one of them, and commending them to the Lord. They will also pray for the mothers, fathers, and families who have been damaged by the abortion that they provided.

“Many years ago, Dr. Philip Ney developed the Society of Centurions for former abortionists and their staff who repent of killing the innocent, just as did the Roman Centurion at Jesus’ crucifixion. At various times and in various locations around the world, Dr. Ney conducts Centurion gatherings, leading men and women through an intensive process of healing. The work I will do this weekend is based on the insights and research Dr. Ney provides. We look forward to preparing many men and women to take advantage of the powerful encounter that these meetings with Dr. Ney provide.

“As he has pointed out, the better we can understand why a person becomes an abortionist, and then how a person comes to leave that dark industry, the better we can understand how our whole society has gotten enmeshed in the culture of abortion, and how it can again become free.”

For information, visit www.SocietyofCenturions.com.

Fr. Pavone Presides over Funeral Service for Aborted Baby at National Event in Rochester

Thursday, July 25th, 2013

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ROCHESTER, NY – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, is presiding here this morning over a memorial service for an aborted baby. Joining pro-life leaders from around the nation associated with Operation Save America, Fr. Pavone will preach at the service this morning. His message, in part, will be as follows:

“We are holding this service in full view of the public. We are not ashamed of our youngest brothers and sisters, who continue to be brutalized by abortion. We are committed to showing the world the violent atrocity of abortion.

“Here in New York, we are committed to showing this atrocity to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who seems to want more abortion, not less. We are grateful that his recent effort to expand abortion in New York was stopped. But that is not enough. We call on him to admit what abortion is and to call for an end to this violence against the youngest children. We need public servants who can tell the difference between serving the public and killing the public.”

The child being buried was killed at about 14 weeks of development by prostaglandin abortion, which induces violent contractions. On the intact body can be seen the black bruises caused by these contractions. Participants in the service will be able to view the baby as they pray.

Fr. Pavone said, “Participating in a funeral for an aborted child is one of the most powerful ways to connect with the reality of these children, and the reality of abortion that killed them. That is why, on September 14, we will co-sponsor a national event in which memorial services will be held simultaneously at about 30 sites nationwide where aborted children are buried. See www.AbortionMemorials.com for details.”

I Stand With Father Pavone (#istandwithfatherpavone)

Pelosi Question Bubble

Fr. Frank Pavone is highly respected for his dedication to the unborn and his determination to fight to end abortion. I am truly grateful that he is not afraid to speak the truth and challenge those that would spread lies.

That is why I’m not afraid to stand with Father Pavone in his latest #LetterToNancy campaign at LetterToNancy.com.

This campaign is really about a whole lot more that simply challenging one politician. It’s really about everyone in America and around the world answering the same question that Mrs. Pelosi is being asked but refuses to answer: “What is the moral difference between what Dr. Gosnell did to a baby born alive at 23 weeks and aborting her moments before birth?”

It’s also bigger than Catholicism or any other religion. It’s about all people everywhere and the belief that life is sacred.

Just as we wish to protect our born children from predators and abuse because they are vulnerable, we must also protect the most vulnerable, those in the womb. They are human beings too and should be protected by law.

The question asked of Mrs. Pelosi was about a 23 week old baby who had ten fingers, ten toes, a beating heart, lungs, eyes, ears, mouth, and a nose. And certainly this baby deserves protection. But I say to you that at 4 months, at 2 months, at 25 days, at 10 days, at conception all those features were already programmed into the DNA and as such was already a human being demanding protection.

So as you ponder the question, don’t be afraid to ask the same question of your Pastor, your friends, your family.

The answer is simply really.

There is no difference between aborting a baby moments before birth and what Gosnell did and a host of other abortionists are doing in abortion mills across this country.

It’s time for the 21st Century Civil Rights Movement to go to the next level. It’s time we Abolish Abortion!

Pelosi Admits Her Position is Not Catholic

Former House Speaker Attacks Priests for Life and Fr. Frank Pavone

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Rather than answer the simple question as to what is the moral difference between killing a baby outside the womb or inside the womb, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has criticized Priests for Life, and its National Director, Fr. Frank Pavone, for raising the issue in an open letter, calling them arrogant, medieval, hysterical, and disconnected from the Church.

Fr. Pavone said: “I would like to know if Mrs. Pelosi, in her charges that we are arrogant, medieval, and hysterical, intends to include the more than 14,000 people (and counting) who signed onto my open letter to her in just the past few days. Rather than resorting to name-calling, she should answer the question all of us have raised. In refusing to answer this question, and instead choosing to criticize the messenger and then assert her own version of Catholicism, Mrs. Pelosi repeats the same display of avoidance and inconsistency as she exhibited at the June 13 press briefing that prompted my letter in the first place. Continuing to support dismemberment abortion, and refusing to explain its distinction from murder, she has disconnected herself from both faith and reason. Priests for Life will not allow this to go unchallenged.”

As for her assertion that she might pay attention to a more intellectual letter, Fr. Pavone responded: “The beginning of an intellectual approach to this discussion is to answer the simple question that started the discussion. Mrs. Pelosi refuses to take that first step.”

Fr. Pavone’s open letter, at LetterToNancy.com, continues to receive thousands of adherents each day from across the country.

In her interview with ThinkProgress earlier this week, Mrs. Pelosi said, “I grant the Church where they are on abortion. That’s where they are, that’s where they have to be. But my faith isn’t about what their position is.”

Fr. Pavone responded: “The beautiful thing about Catholic Faith is that it is not some kind of mysterious knowledge available only to elites or to the person holding it. Rather, it can be plainly understood by prince and pauper, young and old, educated and illiterate. We can all recognize when it is embraced and when it is rejected. Mrs. Pelosi has clearly rejected it, stating again that her faith is not what the Church teaches.

“We don’t need to consult the Catechism to know that terrorism is wrong – reason makes this plain,” added Fr. Pavone. “And yet, those who flew airplanes into our buildings were, all the while, professing their faith. You also don’t need to know theology or be a priest to conclude that tearing a baby apart limb by limb is wrong – reason likewise makes this clear. Yet, Nancy Pelosi has done it again – she’s trying to use faith talk to escape what both reason and Catholicism teach about abortion, and to escape answering the simple question, ‘What is the moral difference between killing a premature newborn and aborting a baby?’”

God Can Change Racist’s and Abortionist’s Hearts

Monday, June 24th, 2013

Praise GOD! I will be a Wall of HOLY GHOST FIRE ALL AROUND YOU SAITH THE LORD. Zechariah 2:5. Shout Alleluia if you believe!!!

In a recent correspondence with my friend Day Gardner, we are remarking on what God is doing to stir up the faithful. As the battle for life rages, we are praying for more victories. The news is encouraging! Please allow me to share some of our exchange with you.

Yes Day, the Holy Ghost Fire keeps raining on us! For example, as Father Frank Pavone continues to call leaders, laypersons and people at large to attention as seen on Fox News, we are sure to see more and more courage enacted from our spiritual leaders. In an open letter he is calling out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with the world watching. Watch the Fox & Friends video HERE.

Remember our challenge to former Speaker Pelosi a while back? How Nancy Pelosi literally ran from us when she saw us sitting on the front row of the ceremony that day!

As to Father Terry, and you, Dr. Johnny and Pastor Broden, I say rain on. Wish I could have been there with you to help slay the three headed beast of racism, reproductive genocide and sexual perversion.

I saw Fr. Terry’s passion in the pictures from the press conference, and I applaud him for his dedication to the unborn. I also understand that Cardinal DiNardo is a defender of the unborn himself. So in keeping with the philosophy of encouraging all pro-lifers to remember that while methods may differ we are all in the same battle, let’s pray for them both. We need them and we all need each other.

By the way Day, on their radio show this week, our colleagues Wil and Meeke Addison asked for a take on the latest Paula Deen story about alleged racist remarks. I explained how I learned a long time ago when racist Governor George Wallace had a change of heart that since all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, there is room at the cross for everyone. I met Paula by the way, and she and her family were very gracious and down to earth that day.

Did I ever tell you about how God moved on the heart of the Georgia Legislature to pass the King Holiday Bill? I only bring this up to remind us that God can use us to help prick the ice and change the hearts of racists and yes, abortionists.

Georgia House Speaker Tom Murphy (2nd from right) with (left to right) Mrs. Alveda King Beal (state rep. 28th Dist.), Rev. Martin L. King Senior, Dr. Benjamin Mayes, and Coretta Scott King. They game to try to persuade Murphy to declare Martin Luther King. Jr. Birthday a state holiday. He said no. Photo taken January 8, 1979. (BILL MAHAN/AJC staff)

When I was a State Legislator in Georgia from the 28th House District in the 70’s and 80’s, I was told that the MLK Holiday Bill couldn’t pass, and would never come out of committee to the floor. Hosea Williams and I were the primary sponsors of the Bill. I wasn’t even born again back then, but I was a bit like David I guess, and a bit like my Dad A. D. and Uncle M. L. in that I knew that God was bigger than those legislators and officials. When my colleagues balled up the copies of the bill, threw them in spittoons and spit tobacco juice on them in front of my face, I forgave them and kept praying. I asked my granddaddy, Daddy King and Aunt Coretta to come to the Capitol for a visit. Finally after much prayer, I requested a private meeting with House Speaker Tom Murphy; considered by some to be a noted segregationist/racist at one time in Georgia’s history. The meeting was miraculously granted, and as I sat before him in tears actually, (I was young back then, and cried more easily than I do today) I asked him to explain why his stance was fair. He said something like, “Miss Alveda, I can’t promise you that the bill will pass, but it will go to the floor.” The bill went to the floor and the rest is history.

Can I take credit for the passage of the Bill? Can any human? Of course not. It was an act of GOD! As in the case of Rosa Parks, MLK, and any servant of God, our Creator could have used a rock or a donkey/ass to deliver His message; whether it be to end racism or abortion or even the stand for natural procreative marriage. It just takes faith, love and obedience to be used as a “voice crying out in the wilderness.”

So my friends, I hope you’ve enjoyed what a conversation between pro-life friends looks and sounds like. Day and I are in this fight together as we all are. While we don’t always agree, we always agree to listen, pray and love each other. We often say that we shall overcome abortion as in the Spirit of God, we pray for Rain and continue to march on until victory is won!

Request for Compassionate Burial for Gosnell Babies

Friday, June 7th, 2013

Affirmation of Life

When Father Frank Pavone spoke with the officials regarding providing a compassionate burial for the 45 bodies of babies aborted at Kermit Gosnell’s House of Horrors, the world was listening. All across America, reports of support and agreement for Father Frank’s request are resonating.

My radio co-host Emmanuel Boose called me during the sentencing and said that “we should give these babies a proper burial.” When I told him what Priests for Life is doing to help make that happen, he immediately marshaled an alert to the communities in agreement.

This week, I spoke with Congressman Trent Franks, author of PreNDA legislation and the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. He too has great compassion for all babies, born and preborn, as is evidenced in his bold and courageous to advance legislation that promises to protect babies and their mothers.

Please join us by contacting your congressional leaders and ask them to urge the officials in Philadelphia to release the bodies for burial. During the trial, the prosecutor pointed out that even miscarried babies are given the dignity of burial. The aborted victims deserve the same compassion.
