ALBUQUERQUE — Abortion Free New Mexico and Priests for Life have released a new video taken from an undercover phone call placed to Southwestern Women’s Options late-term abortion facility that clearly explains how some second and third trimester abortions are performed in New Mexico.

A healthy woman posing as 25 weeks pregnant is given an overview by an abortion worker detailing how the 3-4 day labor and delivery procedure will take place. Late-term abortion is a grueling process that begins every Tuesday with the killing of a baby by a lethal injection of the medication digoxin and culminates at the end of the week when labor is induced and the mother delivers a stillborn child. Pre-born babies can survive outside the womb at 25 weeks, and sometimes earlier in pregnancy.

In a recent rare interview, Curtis Boyd, owner of Southwestern Women’s Options claims that he provides abortions to women “who are dying if they do not get the abortion, women who have severe congenital defects.” However, if a woman was truly dying she would never subject herself to a 3-4 day abortion procedure. She would go to a hospital where if it were absolutely necessary to end the pregnancy, the pre-born child would be removed from her womb (alive) via a Caesarean section.

In fact, a previous undercover recording Abortion Free New Mexico and Priests for Life released demonstrated that Southwestern Women’s Options screens their patients for health indicators to ensure that the mother is healthy enough for a late-term procedure. It would be medical negligence to perform a lengthy abortion procedure on a woman whose life is truly at risk.

Curtis Boyd and his staff at Southwestern Women’s Options are actually the ones placing the lives of women at risk by performing dangerous late-term abortions. In fact, a Southwestern Women’s Options consent form obtained by Abortion Free New Mexico’s Tara Shaver in 2012 states that abortions done after 18 weeks are more dangerous than carrying the baby to full term.

Another video released by Abortion Free New Mexico and Priests for Life exposed that Southwestern Women’s Options isn’t in the habit of performing late-term abortions to save the lives of women as Boyd claims, but is instead operating under an archaic eugenic mindset that empowers their abortionists to willingly abort pre-born babies who are found to have “congenital defects.” Killing babies who are handicapped is at the heart of Boyd’s late-term abortion business.

“Southwestern Women’s Options uses an injection to stop the hearts of pre-born babies and a concoction of several medications to artificially induce labor in women and then sends them away to wait for their child to be born dead. This precarious cocktail of medications is and has resulted in serious life-threatening complications. In May 2011 a patient at Southwestern Women’s Options was rushed to the emergency room after her uterus ruptured during the very same procedure documented in this call. She was 35 weeks pregnant,” Ms. Shaver said. “Late-term abortions are not, as some say, ‘only done to save the lives of women,’ they are performed to make Curtis Boyd huge profits at the expense of precious human lives.

In this call a fee of $8,500 fee is quoted for an abortion at 25 weeks. A Manta.com search of Curtis Boyd in Albuquerque shows that his abortion business has an “annual revenue of $1 to $2.5 million.”

“Americans continue, in large majorities, to reject late-term abortion,” said Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life. “We will continue to expose it by undercover phone calls, so that the existence of these procedures, and their utter barbarity, will be indisputable in the minds and hearts of more and more of our fellow citizens, and that they will take action to end abortion.”

Life and Death in New Mexico: Abortionists Set the Arbitrary Standard

Thursday, June 15th, 2017

Abortion Free New Mexico is working with Priests for Life to raise national awareness about late-term abortion.

ALBUQUERQUE – In part four of a six-part series documenting late-term abortion in New Mexico, Abortion Free New Mexico (AFNM) takes a look at Southwestern Women’s Options, the nation’s largest late-term abortion facility.

Southwestern Women’s Options advertises on its website that elective abortions are available through 28 weeks with “Later Abortion for Maternal and Fetal Indications.”

The latest undercover recording reveals just how arbitrary the standard is for determining if babies live or die at Southwestern Women’s Options.

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement regarding the latest call:

“Once again, this undercover call reveals that abortions are taking place legally in our country even in the third trimester of pregnancy. We will continue to expose this evil in the weeks and months to come. We call on all Americans, including those who identify themselves as ‘pro-choice, to communicate to their legislators their opposition to these late-term procedures so that we can begin restoring protection to these children.”

In the first call to Southwestern, a caller posed as a woman who was pregnant with a baby who had been diagnosed with Down syndrome. Without hesitation she was given an abortion appointment, despite being 33 weeks pregnant.

In a second call, an undercover caller posed as a healthy woman pregnant with a 30-week healthy pre-born baby whom she has decided to abort because her husband lost his job.

The third calling, a minor posing as the victim of incest by an older family member is seeking a late-term abortion at 26 weeks of pregnancy. Instead of urging the sexual assault victim to contact the authorities – as required by law — the abortion clinic staff gives the young girl a phone number to the New Mexico Medicaid office so that she can obtain the $7,500 procedure for free.

The fourth call combines two earlier calls and adds new details, including that mothers so far advanced in their pregnancies should not be aborted in stand-alone clinics like Southwestern – although they are – and that the availability of third-trimester abortions depends on the “comfort” level of the abortionist.

“The bottom line is that SWO is willing to terminate a disabled child in spite of their own admission that late- term abortions shouldn’t be done in an outpatient clinic because they pose significant risks to mothers,” Mrs. Shaver said.

“The ‘comfort’ zone of the abortionists at Southwestern Women’s Options, which appear to be based on an arbitrary eugenic standard, have ultimately led them to decide which babies should live or die. Barbaric late- term abortions are rejected by the majority of the American people because viable babies are being killed, and in our latest undercover recording, the abortion workers themselves admit that late-term abortions shouldn’t be performed because they are too dangerous for the women seeking them. New Mexico abortion facilities need oversight and accountability that comes from common-sense regulations,” Mrs. Shaver said.

Fr. Pavone Praises Tennessee Governor Haslam for Signing New Protections for Unborn

NEW YORK – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today praised Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam for signing a new law that will save late-term babies from abortion. The measure protects almost all unborn children from abortion when those children are deemed able to survive outside the womb.

“The Tennessee Infants Protection Act does what the title says. It will protect unborn babies who are able to live outside the womb,” said Fr. Pavone. “Governor Haslam has taken an important step toward safeguarding children’s lives.”

The measure, Senate Bill 1180, would require doctors to determine if a child is viable, that is, able to survive outside the womb, before performing an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy. If the baby is determined to be viable, he or she could only be killed in cases of medical emergency or great physical harm to the mother. Abortion supporters said the legislation interferes with a “deeply personal” decision.

“Killing any child is ‘deeply personal’ to the baby involved, as well as the mother,” added Fr. Pavone. “Whether your life is allowed to continue is about as deeply personal a matter as there is. Tennessee’s governor and legislature are to be commended for considering and protecting the most vulnerable members of our society, the unborn.”

Priests for Life, Abortion Free New Mexico Release Second Undercover Call of Appointment for Third Trimester Abortion

Monday, May 8th, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK – Priests for Life and Abortion Free New Mexico have released a new undercover phone call as part of an effort to educate Americans about the reality of third-trimester abortion.

In a call to Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque, commissioned by Priests for Life, New Mexico pro-life activist Tara Shaver said she was a health mother carrying a healthy baby at 30 weeks into her pregnancy. She explained that this was originally a wanted child, but that once her husband lost his job, they felt they could no longer take care of the new baby and the two other children they have.

The clinic scheduled the abortion — a procedure of several days — to begin on Tuesday, May 9th. The abortion seller said Medicaid would cover the abortion.

“Even people who call themselves ‘pro-choice’ are outraged that children can be aborted this late – and even later – in a pregnancy,” said Father Frank Pavone. “It is time for us to make sure that there isn’t a citizen in America who is unaware of this child-killing that is taking place throughout pregnancy.”

Tara and Bud Shaver, the founders of Abortion Free New Mexico, point out that New Mexico is one of the poorest states in the country and is consistently ranked lowest in education and child well being while also having one of the highest crime rates in the nation. The state is currently facing a budget crisis and is struggling to keep the government running.

According to a recent article by the Associated Press: “Cash reserves are dwindling, which will soon leave state finance officials unable to cut checks. The governor warned that will affect the state’s ability to make payroll and pay contracts.”

“However, if you need a late-term abortion, New Mexico is the go-to place,” Bud Shaver said. “New Mexico may not be able to pay its state workers, but New Mexico Medicaid will pay over $15,000 to local abortionists to kill a child in the womb.”

Tara Shaver said: “The myth that late-term abortions only occur when a woman’s life is at risk or when the baby has been diagnosed with an anomaly could not be farther from the truth. Our latest call dispels this myth with proof that in New Mexico late-term abortions are easy to come by.

“New Mexicans deserve to hear the truth about the evil that is occurring in our state and our leaders must work to change the fact that New Mexico is the late-term abortion capital of the country.”

In a previous undercover call, Ms. Shaver told Southwestern Women’s Options that she was 33 weeks pregnant with a Down syndrome baby. The woman who answered the phone assured her that she would be able to abort her child and have Medicaid pick up the tab.

Father Pavone noted that the majority of Americans do not support late-term abortion and do not want taxpayer money funding used to kill fully developed, well past viability children.

“Every abortion is an outrage, and we need to protect every baby. To educate our fellow citizens, let’s start with the most obvious and outrageous part of the story: Taxpayer-funded third-trimester abortions of healthy babies carried by healthy mothers.”

Fr. Pavone Urges South Carolina Governor to Sign Bill Protecting Late-Term Babies

NEW YORK — Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today complimented South Carolina lawmakers and urged South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to sign a bill passed this week that would protect babies from abortion after 19 weeks.

“Governor Haley has indicated she will sign this bill and I applaud her commitment to ending brutal and medically unnecessary late-term abortions,” Father Pavone said. “South Carolina joins a growing list of states that recognize that babies in the womb feel pain and are deserving of our protection. The South Carolina House and Senate, and particularly Rep. Wendy Nanney, should be proud that some of the most vulnerable citizens in the state have been given back their right to life.”

“Priests for Life has been working for decades to advocate for precisely this type of legislation,” Father Pavone continued, “and we will continue working with legislators around the country to replicate this accomplishment of South Carolina in multiple other states.”

Fr. Pavone: We must act now to protect these babies

NEW YORK — Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement regarding today’s vote on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36) in the House of Representatives.

“It is very fitting that on the two-year anniversary of the conviction of late-term abortionist and murderer Kermit Gosnell , our federal government is poised to take action to protect babies from a brutal and inhumane death at a point when they can feel pain. Many of Gosnell’s victims were well past 20 weeks. This bill would have protected them.

“We know from our work that some healthy mothers of healthy babies choose abortion after 20 weeks for reasons that have nothing to do with rape, incest or threats to physical health or life. Our ministry recently was asked to try to stop a healthy woman who was 30 weeks pregnant from aborting her healthy baby, but the abortion proceeded because there was no law to stop it.

“We must act now to stop this barbarous practice and protect these babies.”

Priests for Life: Gosnell Anniversary Links Pain-Capable Bill and 2014 Elections

Tuesday, May 13th, 2014

PriestsForLife

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: May 13, 2014

Contact: Leslie Palma
347-286-7277

NEW YORK, NY — Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement this morning:

“Today marks one year since the conviction of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who killed children before and after birth, and killed their mothers as well. I remember vividly the arguments in the courtroom, and how consistent these crimes are with what we see in abortion clinics throughout the nation, as detailed in the book Lime 5.

“Today we also join the voices of many in the U.S. Senate and across America in calling for a Senate vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This legislation, which would protect children in the womb from 20 weeks forward, is the next key step in reaching our ultimate goal, which is the protection of every unborn child — all of whom, without exception, we acknowledge as persons. Even among those who do not share that ultimate goal or belief, most agree that a policy allowing abortion after 20 weeks — when these children feel pain — is too extreme.

“Along with working for the passage of this legislation, Priests for Life is also implementing a project whereby each member of the U.S. Senate will be asked publicly whether he or she believes that the lives of children after 20 weeks of development should be protected in the womb. Priests for Life will see to it not only that this question is asked, but that the response — or lack thereof — is widely publicized in the state that senator represents, and across the country. Like it or not, the painful dismemberment of children in the womb is going to be a key issue in this year’s midterm elections.

“Finally, Priests for Life is planning a national memorial service for the babies and moms who were killed by Kermit Gosnell. These babies were given names in a special ceremony last year at the headquarters of Priests for Life (see www.KermitGosnell.com). The Philadelphia Medical Examiner refused to release the bodies of these children for burial. But we can have a funeral service nevertheless, and we will be calling upon the support and participation of Churches, the pro-life community, and all citizens of good will.”

Fr. Pavone to U.S. Senate: Americans Support Pain Capable Bill; Do You?

NEW YORK, NY – A day after the release of a CNN poll that found 58 percent of Americans believe abortion should be illegal in some or all circumstances, Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, is calling on members of the U.S. Senate to take heed.

“The evidence is overwhelming that the tide is turning against legal abortion in America. A good first step, in response to this evidence, would be to protect children in the womb from the brutal dismemberment procedure that kills them halfway through pregnancy.

“Members of the U.S. Senate should pay close attention to what their constituents are saying, and vote in favor of the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.”

Fr. Pavone: Albuquerque Effort To End Late-Term Abortion Is Just A First Step

Wednesday, November 20th, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: November 19, 2013

Contact: Leslie Palma
347-286-7277

NEW YORK, NY – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, released the following statement regarding the defeat of a proposed 20-week ban on abortion in Albuquerque:

“Pro-lifers in Albuquerque and elsewhere should not feel discouraged about the defeat of the effort to protect unborn babies from 20 weeks forward. It is a brilliant strategy and we will see to it that this effort is introduced in other cities and states. The fact is, of course, that children have in fact been saved through this effort, simply because we have raised the issue of fetal pain, which does not even cross the minds of many abortionists.

“The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act has been introduced in the U.S. Senate and already passed by the House. This effort in Albuquerque has helped raise awareness of the inhumanity of a procedure that can no longer hide behind the euphemism of choice. We will build on that awareness to pass this measure on the federal level.

Priests for Life Supporting Albuquerque Efforts and Beyond To Protect Pain-Capable Children

Monday, November 18th, 2013

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: November 18, 2013

Contact: Leslie Palma
347-286-7277

NEW YORK, NY — As Priests for Life urges voters in Albuquerque to support on Tuesday a measure protecting children in the womb from painful dismemberment, the organization also announced its intentions to extend this protection nationwide.

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, stated, “In regard to Albuquerque, there is only one correct way to vote in the election of November 19 and that is to vote to protect children in the womb. An up and down vote like this admits of no ambiguity. Those who fail to vote to protect these children have innocent blood on their hands. Whatever else they use their hands for in the future, the fact that they still have those hands is more than we can say about the children who will lose theirs if this measure does not pass.”

Fr. Pavone also announced that Priests for Life, which has been working for years to pass measures on the state and federal level to protect children from late-term abortion and to educate people about fetal pain, will redouble those efforts, including the following initiatives in 2014:

a) The distribution to every Church and, indeed, to every American, of the diagrams depicting dismemberment abortion (See www.priestsforlife.org/resources/medical/de.jpg);
b) Prayer campaigns to raise initiatives and pass laws to protect children from late-term abortion;
c) Working with states and cities nationwide to pass measures to protect pain-capable children;
d) Working with the US House and Senate to pass federal legislation to protect pain-capable children;
e) Educational initiatives about fetal pain and late-term abortion, including radio ads and television programs;
f) The distribution to activists of full-size posters showing the reality of dismemberment abortion;
g) Sharing the testimonies, through the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, of those who have had late-term abortions.

More information on these and related initiatives will be announced in coming weeks at www.StopDandE.com.

Janet Morana and Georgette Forney, co-founders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign (www.silentnomore.com) joined Father Pavone in urging support of the Albuquerque. In a joint statement, they said:

“Women who have late-term abortions typically have bonded with their babies, especially in cases where the health of the child or mother is at issue. Early termination to simplify a complicated pregnancy only serves to protect the doctor. The mother and family are left trying to grieve for their loss, while struggling with the stigma of abortion. We must offer better health care to women in these circumstances. Perinatal Hospice and serving both patients are better ways to approach this need.”

Dr. Alveda King, full-time director of African-American Outreach for Priests for Life, spoke of the increased risks women face when undergoing late-term abortions.

“While all abortions pose physical and psychological risks for the woman, medical risks from these brutal late abortions are markedly increased – and even include risk of death. I stand with the people of Albuquerque who are seeking to ensure that the law reflects our society’s desire to protect the innocent out of compassion both for the mother and the child.”
