All monsters are not in the movies…

Wednesday, August 15th, 2012

Friends, we are dealing with a real three headed monster: Abortion and Unnatural Contraceptives, Racism and Homosexuality. All three fly in the face of God, pretty much saying: “No God, we won’t be fruitful and multiply. We will not procreate your beloved human family. We will kill our babies, make sure we don’t get pregnant in the first place, refuse to marry anyone who doesn’t have our skin color and call it racial purity, and finally, we will have same-sex-sex, which sure as you know what won’t cause anyone to get pregnant.” Oh, wow!

What’s really sad is that when we protect these positions with “misplaced compassion,” and try to call these moral wrongs civil rights, we hurt society and humanity. Love, real love never fails. We must not judge one another, we must simply tell the truth and slay the beast. The Sword of the Spirit is a very effective weapon; the Blood of Jesus is a super source; and the real super hero is the Holy Spirit. And remember, our all powerful FATHER GOD is LOVE and LOVE never fails.

“Dear Mama King …”

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

Friends, I hope you will write to “Mama King” and share your views about this blog.

Dear Readers, last Mother’s Day I blogged about how we feel about our mothers’ advice over the seasons of our lives:

How We Relate to “Mama” over the Years:

Age 6 – “Mommy, I love you.”
Age 10 – “Mom, whatever.”
Age 18 – “I can’t wait to leave this house.”
Age 25 – “Mom, you were right!”
Age 30 – “I wanna go to Mama’s house.”
Age 50 – “I don’t ever want to lose my Mom.”
Age 70 – “I would give up everything for my Mom to be here with me.”

I am no exception to the legend. I can remember feeling the same way about my mother over the years. Mother is still here on earth with us, and she is our treasure and our joy!

Having passed the golden silver age of 61, I have a badge of honor that is a blessing and treasure to bear. The title “Mama King” is no longer reserved solely for my womb fruit and their children. Now, as a post-abortive mother, a grandmother and a mentor to many young people, male and female; I am known all over the world as Mama King. So, today please allow me to share a message from the “Heart of Mama King.”

During the last few days, humanity has been overwhelmed by so many incidents that I shudder to remind us of even just a few. However, I’m going to ask you to bear with me as we look at just two tragedies that are a blight on the sanctity of human life.

First, the tragic slaughter of a young woman, Tonya Reaves in Chicago. She was butchered at a Planned Parenthood Clinic. Warning, the details are very graphic.

Then, there is the expose of the North Carolina abortionist who attempted to justify his profession of killing black babies by challenging the pro-life delegation at his door to “adopt the ugly black babies.”

Just what do these two stories have in common? What does either story have to do with the heart of a mother? Well, just consider this. Tonya was an African American mother of a young son, and pregnant with a new baby. She was also engaged to be married. Was her decision to abort a good “choice?” Let her killers tell you that they think so. Planned Parenthood promised Tonya a solution to her problems, and they killed her. Now, she is dead; a beautiful dead victim of the nefarious liars Planned Parenthood. Yes friends, Tonya and her dead baby are victims. For those who want to point the finger at Tonya and say that nobody made her go to Planned Parenthood, think again. Planned Parenthood is a master of false advertising, and Tonya fell into their trap.

I was once a victim of the lies of Planned Parenthood. They disperse death, sterility and infertility. Then they justify their poison pills, shots and blades by saying that they are providing “women’s rights.” What a travesty.

Then, as if Tonya’s tragedy were not enough, an abortionist in North Carolina told a pro-life prayer group that he was aborting babies to help give people tax breaks, and that if the pro-life community is so concerned about the ugly Black babies, they should adopt them.

People, talk about being angry and sin not! It took me a minute to remember that I am a Christian. I mean, I almost wanted to go after the man! He really needs help.

I would miss a perfect opportunity here if I didn’t point out that the way to help tax payers is to adopt a tax plan like the brilliant 9-9-9, which doesn’t have to abort babies to equalize the tax burdens of Americans.

Can you imagine how I as an African America mother feel when I hear someone call Black babies ugly. We are the human race, and all babies are beautiful, not matter what their ethnicity, social and economic standing, or state of physical well being happens to be.

Can you imagine how much it hurts to see a beautiful woman like Tonya Reaves cut down in the prime of her life? Remember how hurt I was about the murder of Trayvon Martin? I called him a late-late term abortion. And now we lose a young woman trying to get a late term abortion.

Finally, I want to mention how glad I am that Chick-fil-A and Rev. Bill Owens, Sr. are standing up for procreative marriage. We are dealing with a three headed monster in America; racism, abortion and anti-procreative marriage. All three fly in the face of God, denying that His precious One Human Race is designed to live together, love together and procreate together.

This is a rant, so it admittedly isn’t scholarly and highly intellectual. I hope and pray though that somewhere in all of this we can understand that we all need to be praying and repenting right now.

“If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

Teaching Children Propaganda?

Friday, July 20th, 2012

Chuck Norris is in the news along with Dan Cathy of Chick-fil-A; both charged with promoting propaganda against the homosexual lobby. Both Chuck and Chick-fil-A have been broadly admired over the years; Chuck for his popular Walker, Texas Ranger series and karate and exercise regimen; and Chick-fil-A for family values backed up by sensational chicken menus sold only Monday through Saturday, closed on Sunday so employees can spend time with their families and worship God if they so choose.

Chuck is concerned that President Obama’s homosexual agenda will impact Boy Scouts of America. In a recent article Chuck said of Boy Scouts of America national board member and Ernst & Young CEO James Turley.

“But is Turley working on his own initiative, or has the White House prodded him with perks and favors?” Norris speculates. “Is it a coincidence that Turley came out swinging against the BSA’s century-old policy to ban gays from leadership and that he has such close affiliations with the pro-gay Obama Administration?”

The Girl Scouts of America has already been affected by the culture of death with the influences of the pro-abortion agenda and let’s not forget that the Girl Scouts of America recently ruled that a boy could be a Girl Scout.

As reported in a Baptist Press interview with Dan Cathy, “Some have opposed the company’s support of the traditional family. ”Well, guilty as charged,” said Cathy when asked about the company’s position.

“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.

“We operate as a family business … our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that,” Cathy emphasized.

“We intend to stay the course,” he said. “We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.”

Why is it that when family values are brought to the table, the outcry against truth is so loud? Propaganda is defined as the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person.

The propaganda debate is not limited to the United States as reported by The Journal in Great Britain, “The “shadow” health minister of Great Britain’s Labour Party said of a Christian group that has made over 50 presentations to school children on abortion, “I think it is very wrong and the Government needs to step in because we can’t teach children at an impressionable age this sort of propaganda.” Diane Abbott criticized the organization Lovewise for telling children at mostly faith-based schools about the abortion/breast cancer link, the abortion/depression link, and other abortion consequences, “Sexual health education is supposed to be based on facts. These people are just pedaling bigotry.”

The prophet Isaiah said it best when he said, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” Isaiah 5:20

Christians Arise!

Monday, July 9th, 2012

I have spoken out many times about my beliefs regarding the harmful impact of abortion, euthanasia and the assault on natural/procreative family and marriage. Believe it or not, while I do take quite a bit of heat for my prolife ministry, I get more comments and attacks (personal and issue based) as when I speak about natural procreative family and marriage.

I am a Christian and as such I talk about what God and the Bible say about marriage and family. That is what I base my beliefs on, Christian values. And no matter how many times I say that I don’t hate homosexual people, that in fact, the Bible commands me to love them as I do every member of God’s family, I get accused of hating homosexuals and being anti-homosexual. Nothing can be further from the truth.

My Christian faith directs me to love all of God’s people – to pray for everyone so that we can all enjoy eternity with God. Just like I am for life and I fight for the right for all human beings to be conceived and born, I love all and pray for the salvation of all abortionists, their staffs and all those who have had abortions. So too do I love all and pray for the salvation of all who have same-sex attractions.

With that said, it seems that many more people are beginning to weigh in on the subject of same-sex marriage. First it was President Obama and then the NAACP both in support of same-sex marriage. And of course there were or are those who are commenting on their endorsement of same-sex marriage.

And then recently Brad Pitt’s mother, Jane Pitt, wrote an op-ed to Missouri’s Springfield New-Leader where she encourages Christian voters to prayerfully consider voting for Mitt Romney, although he is a Mormon, as opposed to casting a vote for “a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage.”

I don’t know if Mrs. Pitt has been getting attacked for her stance on the subject but another well known company has. This past week I read an article in The Christian Post entitled “Chick-fil-A Called ‘Anit-Gay’ for Contributions to Pro-Marriage Groups”. Chick-fil-A, founded by Truett Cathy, runs the operation based upon Christian values. Their belief in natural procreative marriage simply means that they believe their Bibles, and fear God. The US Constitution guarantees Mr. Cathy and his organization that privilege. All Americans are entitled to religious freedom.

Truett feels so strongly about his Christian values that he made the decision when he opened his first restaurant that his restaurants were not going to be open on Sundays. He believes that it is important to let his employees have a day off to spend time with their families and friends and to worship if they choose to. Someone who is so rooted in his Christian faith would not then turn around and disobey God’s commandment to ‘love your neighbor as yourself.”

I am a Christians and am called by God to speak the truth, the truth as taught to me by God ‘s word. In church Sunday, our pastor, Allen McNair of Believers’ Bible Christian Church warned us not to vote for sin. I cannot be silent about sin. I must help my brothers and sisters see, hear and know the truth. I’m not perfect and there are times that others have to help me see the truth and I welcome their help. I don’t hate anyone, in fact I’m praying for you. Please, pray for me.

Winning The Battle On Our Knees

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

“The battle is not yours, it’s the Lord’s.” 2 Chronicles 20:15

Four years ago, during the long hot summer before Mr. Barack Hussein Obama was elected as the “first black president of the United States of America,” I remember being distraught because prophets and pundits were predicting his election. One friend dreamed of Mr. Obama wearing a medical jacket and carrying a stethoscope. We later realized that God was revealing that the president would use health care as a wedge into the voting communities.

Friends, I was angry with God, and that was a dangerous position for me to be in. God had revealed to me that due to His hand of judgment on America, Mr. Obama would be the next President. I just couldn’t stand the thought of that!

It took the God ordained wisdom of a fellow prophetic voice in the person of my good friend and fellow warrior Pastor Clennard Childress of www.blackgenocide.org to calm me down. I remember him saying: “Alveda, only God can use one vessel, one man to shine light on two of the most demonic forces we battle today in the 21st century. Racism and abortion will come to the forefront with this presidency because Barack Obama will be the most abortion minded president American has ever known. On the other hand, racism will come out of the closet because some people will resent having a black face in the White House.”

As it turns out, Pastor Childress is right. President Obama’s abortion agenda is unprecedented. Then too, there is the flip side of the anti-Christ/anti-procreation agenda which President Obama also promotes. Abortion along with his homosexual marriage agenda are the two most effective forces against natural marriage and procreation. Face it friends, two men or two women engaged in sexual liaisons, and mothers who abort or surgically and chemically prevent conception are much less likely to birth babies.

And let’s not forget racism. Sadly, there are self proclaimed Christians praying that God will kill President Obama. Now, I know that David prayed for God to kill his enemies in the Old Testament, but after Christ came into the earth and died at Calvary and ascended to Heaven as our High Priest, we now have the privilege of praying for our leaders in authority and would be wise to pray that God transform the President rather than kill him.

Having said that, I’d like to remind us that we must pray on our knees for relief from ungodly leaders. When we get up from our knees, we should go to the ballot box and vote for life, natural marriage and family, deliverance from forces that are destroying our health, economy, educational system, etc.

As a 21st century guardian of the King Family Legacy, I’m reminded of what my Uncle M. L. wrote in the previous century in his “Letter From a Birmingham Jail.” He spoke of the most segregated hour in America, that being Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. Friends, it’s time to come together regardless of ethnicity, church denomination, economic status, political party affiliation and other distinctions that divide us rather than unite us.

The blood of the innocents is crying from the ground. The earth is groaning under the injustices. Natural procreation is under attack. We must pray and ask God to help us according to 2 Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people who are called by My Name will humble themselves and pray…”

I’d like to end this blog with a message from controversial prophet Kim Clement. You may recall that he was one of the prophetic voices heralding the election of President Obama. Mr. Clement took a lot of heat for speaking that prophecy. This is not an endorsement of his message, just an FYI. Peace!

Kim Clement:
“I Will Not Look Away From the Sound That Is Coming”
June 6, 2012 – From The Matrix

Regarding the Shedding of Innocent Blood

What is happening now is that there is innocent blood being shed. And God says clearly and through me now, “Do you really think I will not respond to this that is happening? I’m already performing miracles with young kids that were supposed to die; I’ve protected them by the thousands and the tens of thousands. Those that have slipped by,” God said, “each one has a voice that I will replace with two voices. Each one has a sound. Where there is one innocent taken, I will give two innocent back. Where one purity is taken, I will give two purity back.”

God says, “I will not look away from the shedding of blood; I will not look away from the sound that is coming from the Middle East. I will not turn away from it,” says the Lord. “Even in America, even in the countries, the nations in Europe, where there is blood that is being shed,” God said, “I will not hold back. I will not be quiet. I will hear it, and watch what I will do with these young men and women,” says the Lord.

“They shall carry the sword; they shall carry the spears; they shall carry the answers, the medical answers. They shall go and use their abilities to bring about cures and bring about energy and bring about all kinds of things that will propagate the Gospel and the good news and the Word of the Lord. Therefore, look now, look as I speak,” says the Lord. “You will see things that you have not seen before and hear things that you’ve not heard before, for out of this death shall come life and out of the brutality,” says the Lord, “shall come purity, and a sound shall cover the earth,” says the Lord, “and the glory of the Lord shall cover the earth – the knowledge of the glory of the Lord shall cover the earth as the waters cover the seas,” says the Lord.

Natural Disasters and Un-natural Behavior: Coincidence or Connection?

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

This past weekend, there were storms in and around the DC metro area. Power to two million was lost. No lights, no computers, no phone access for days. Food shortages and general anxiety, arrested plans were all in the mix. All this amidst record high temperatures in many eastern states reaching as high as 104 degrees, breaking records set over 70 years ago. Is it just me, or does anyone else wonder if when human behavior goes against the natural order of things, if nature doesn’t become confused as well?

I bet you know where I’m going with this. Abortion, abortion drugs, homosexual marriage and other life defying practices are all the rage in DC while the storm is literally raging. How do abortion, abortion drugs and homosexual marriage defy life? They are actually connected! An aborted baby is a dead baby. Abortion drugs attempt to make sure that babies are not born. Finally, two men’s sexual connection or two women’s sexual connection do not a baby make. No baby, no life.

Talk about stormy weather.

Is the Girl Scouts Program Good for Girls? Part 2

Monday, June 11th, 2012

As the U.S. bishops take up an inquiry, parents continue to be concerned about the organization. Boys who ‘identify’ as girls are welcome to join in Colorado.

Quo vadis, Girl Scouts of America?

After years of on-going concerns about the organization’s direction, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has taken up the question of whether its current program is at all good for girls.

The bishops’ Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, chaired by Bishop Kevin Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Ind., will address “possible problematic relationships with other organizations, the issue of problematic programmatic materials and resources and other matters of concern.”

Yesterday, we looked at how part of the problem may stem from the fact that councils are free to set their own agenda, rather than strictly follow a national policy.

The bishops’ apprehensions fall into three major groups, accompanied by a host of smaller issues.

There are concerns about Girl Scouts USA’s ties to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), the confederation of international Girl Scout groups that has exhibited pro-abortion and pro-homosexual agendas in many instances.

There is an ongoing question regarding the GSUSA’s connection to and involvement with Planned Parenthood and other groups that provide, promote or condone abortion and contraception.

And there is the issue of how GSUSA handles sexuality, sexual education and homosexuality.

Although the Girl Scouts claim to be neutral on the more political issues related to same-sex attraction, their leadership is larded with supporters of — and activities for — homosexual rights, and some of their educational material shows a clear bias in favor of homosexual issues.

As just one example, the current spokesman for the GSUSA is Joshua Ackley.

Under the name of Joshua Starr, he fronted the “homocore” (hardcore/punk music with homosexual lyrical themes) band the Dead Betties, which was founded in 2002 as part of the “queer punk” movement. The band’s lyrics and music videos are dominated by sexual content, violence and misogyny.
Ackley is in charge of media relations for the GSUSA and writes for the official Girl Scout blog.

In addition to Ackley, other members of the Girl Scouts’ leadership are active in homosexual-rights issues, including Lynn Cothern, the director of administration, and Timothy Higdon, chief of external affairs, who both worked with the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Cothern recently resigned from GSUSA and, according to his Facebook page, now works as a “major gifts strategist: for Girl Scouts Cactus-Pine Council in Arizona.

In contrast to the Boy Scouts of America, the GSUSA has no official prohibition on homosexual persons in leadership positions or as members, saying there are “no membership policies on sexual preference.” Its official website links to numerous resources that promote abortion and the homosexual agenda, including same-sex “marriage.”

Same-sex issues are routinely included in Girl Scout materials about “diversity” and “tolerance.” Indeed, when the Boy Scouts were embroiled in a lawsuit about their right to refuse to allow homosexual men to be leaders, the GSUSA was quick to affirm its acceptance of homosexuals, saying, “Your sexuality has absolutely no bearing on your personal character. You can be a role model for a young man or woman regardless of your sexual inclination.”

Problematic Learning Material

Over the years, parents have encountered a variety of problematic educational materials and resources created for use by scouts and leaders.

The resource entitled “Your Voice, Your World: The Power of Advocacy” for the Advocate award includes a work page with which girls can complete the activity “Advocacy in My Own Life.” The example given is that of tennis player Martina Navrotilova, who “set a milestone for gay rights with her openness about her sexual orientation. She became an activist for gay rights and, in 1992, sued the state of Colorado over a ballot measure denying gays and lesbians protection from discrimination.”

“GIRLtopia,” for example, is a publication that “invites girls to consider how the world is far from perfect for girls around the globe. As girls take in this reality, they are invited to envision an ideal world — a society that consistently respects their needs, values and interests.”

On the page for “Utopias,” they begin with St. Thomas More (who coined the word) and then recommend Sherri Tepper’s novel, The Gate to Woman’s Country. Tepper’s book describes an “ideal” society in which men are subservient, procreation is managed in a twice yearly “festival,” and eugenics is the chosen path to perfection.

Aside from the thematic material that conflicts with the Catholic faith, there is a high degree of mature language and sexual content, notable even for a book recommended to high-school juniors and seniors.

Even worse is some content recommended for fourth-grade and fifth-grade girls. The book Agent of Change, billed as a book about “power,” has a profile of Marjane Satrapi and her graphic novel Persepolis, which includes page after page of extreme sexual content, drug use, Marxism and foul language. The book is intended for an adult audience, and much of the material is inappropriate for minors.

GSUSA recently made changes that will remove references to Persepolis and Gate to Women’s Country in future printings, as well as to Martina Navrotalova’s gay rights activities. In the meantime, girls can continue to use the materials, or the council will provide “stickers” for them to cover up the offensive content or replacement pages, available online. However, even after recent changes, some materials still refer girls to pro-abortion organizations like the ACLU, Amnesty International, and the National Organization for Women (NOW); role models like Betty Friedan, Margaret Mead, Gloria Steinam, Dolores Huerta (a pro-choice Catholic) and more; and sexually explicit websites like Jezebel.com, MarieClaire.com and others.

The 2011 “World Thinking Day” activity pack, aimed at ages 6-16, includes “sexual and reproductive rights.” The “AIDS Badge Curriculum” created by WAGGGS, and available to Girl Scouts, suggests having girls “role-play” negotiation for use of a condom during sex. One of the activities is to create a display to encourage use of condoms, instruct girls how to acquire them, demonstrate their correct use and distribute them.

Although GSUSA had said that it would not “take a stand on or advocate for or against any issue regarding a girl’s health and sexuality,” there continue to be problems with resources available to members. These are among the issues which the bishops hope to address, and GSUSA has already removed problematic links on its website and is revising some materials.

However, as recently as 2007, former CEO Kathy Cloninger said: “I feel like we cannot be the nation’s expert on girl issues without dealing with how issues of sexuality affect the girls of this nation. We believe parents are part of the discussion, but girl scouting needs to be part of education and discussion as well.”

Do the Girl Scouts no longer believe this?

Boys as Girl Scouts

In addition to these looming issues, the Girl Scouts are also now accepting boys who suffer from gender-identity disorders. The Colorado Council decided to accept 7-year-old boy Bobby Montoya because he “identifies” as a girl.

The Girl Scouts of Colorado said, “Girl Scouts is an inclusive organization, and we accept all girls in kindergarten through 12th grade as members. If a child identifies as a girl, and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout. Our requests for support of transgender kids have grown, and Girl Scouts of Colorado is working to best support these children, their families and the volunteers who serve them. … We are accelerating our support systems and training so that we’re better able to serve all girls, families and volunteers.”

This naturally raises the problem of boys being allowed to go on overnights with girls simply by “identifying” as girls. Mixed-gender overnights are normally forbidden.

GSUSA spokeswoman Michelle Tompkins says that “Girl Scouts of the USA is an inclusive organization focused on delivering a leadership experience for all girls in kindergarten through 12th grade. In situations involving transgender children, we handle each situation on a case-by-case basis so we can best handle the individual circumstances needed to address each issue. Of paramount importance to the Girl Scouts is the well-being of the child in question and the children in the troop (or the activity in question). We will take the steps we feel are necessary to ensure that all of the children involved have a safe environment in order to enjoy our programming.”

What the Church ius Doing

There are more than 3 million Girl Scouts in America. Some estimates suggest that perhaps 25% of them are Catholic or are in troops sponsored through a Catholic organization.

As concerns arose about the Girl Scouts, the U.S. bishops’ conference deferred to the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM), which defends the Scouts. Its initial response was to debunk, rather than address, claims made against the GSUSA.

In its most recent position statement released in February 2012, NFCYM acknowledged that, beginning in 2010, parents began to raise concerns “that GSUSA had taken an intentional position contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church on marriage, abortion, contraception and sexuality. In 2011 and 2012, the accusations continued. Our practice as an organization is to investigate, understand and then, if necessary, challenge such matters by going directly to the sources involved. As a result, NFCYM has been in direct contact with GSUSA leadership and has engaged in substantial conversation characterized by mutual respect and shared goals.”

NFCYM met with GSUSA and its new CEO, Anna Maria Chavez, “who has committed to continued dialogue.”

The GSUSA affirmed its “commitment to strengthening their relationship with faith communities and honoring the religious principles in their program resource material. Therefore, changes have recently been made to GSUSA’s print and Web program content as a result of the issues of concern raised by NFCYM and others. In addition, a thorough review of all GSUSA program resources is in process by GSUSA.”

Indeed, the GSUSA has been responsive to complaints in the past, removing some problematic links from its website and some offending material from learning resources.

Additionally, GSUSA and NFCYM will continue to work together to “more quickly and successfully address accusations and communicate factual information.”

Chavez, a Catholic, told Catholic News Service, “For nearly 100 years, we have partnered with the Catholic Church to support the growth and development of millions of girls. It is a wonderful legacy, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to participate in the process that will only enhance our partnership.”

Following this meeting, Bishop Rhoades met with his Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth and consulted with Robert McCarty and Kathleen Carver of the NFCYM. Bishop Rhoades reaffirmed “the good service that so many of our Catholic Girl Scout troops have provided and continue to provide at the local level, both to the Church and to the community at large. In the spirit of Blessed John Paul II’s apostolic letter Mulieris Dignitatem (1988), the Church ever seeks to hold up activity that promotes and fosters the dignity and vocation of girls and of young women. Catholic Girl Scout troops have served girls and young women for many years, and the committee is grateful for this service.”

However, “important questions still remain and need to be examined” at both a local and national level. Bishop Rhoades has requested that the committee “provide a resource(s) for local-level use that bishops can share with priests, youth and young-adult ministry directors, pro-life directors, educational and catechetical leaders and others. Such a resource(s) may include considerations related to the identity of Catholic troops and considerations that may be helpful for parents.”

He has requested that USCCB staff work directly with GSUSA and NFCYM to “identify and address remaining questions and concerns,” and has also invited his brother bishops “to communicate questions or concerns with me or the USCCB Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth.”

Tess Volanski, one of the co-founders of SpeakNowGirlScouts.com, which tracks problems with the organization from a Catholic perspective, remains concerned.

“Catholic parents and families need to understand that GSUSA is not just an organization that has made a few mistakes with questionable material,” she said. “The group has shown repeatedly, through their curriculum, media use, staff and other sources, that they possess a set of values in direct conflict with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

“In my opinion, Girl Scouts changing appears highly improbable. The general mindset of the organization has shifted, and for it to shift back to a wholesome scouting group, free from any sort of political agenda, would be verging on a miracle.”

A line drawn in the sand — or — walking the plank, African American clergy must decide

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

By Clenard Childress
May 23, 2012

Dr. Martin Luther King’s book, “A Stride Toward Freedom,” was considered the handbook of the Civil Rights movement of the fifties and sixties. It was in this writing Dr. King expressed the necessity for the Church to be engaged and informed about the social injustices plaguing the country. Dr. King said, “It is not enough for the Church to be active in the realm of ideas; it must move out to the area of social action.” As I have related repeatedly, America is not at the crossroads, it has all ready gone down the wrong road and it’s all happened while the Church in America has stood amicably by.

Race is not found in heaven but certainly plays a major role here on earth and certainly in America. It is quite ironic, no, just down right insidious that it would be the first Black president to ‘draw the line in the sand’ demanding the Black Church to follow in complete allegiance, in complete lockstep. ‘Drawing the line in the sand’ does not adequately describe the challenge to the Church, since the president has now declared his open support for Homosexual marriage; it is more like walking the plank, and just before you step into oblivion, Obama removes the blindfold.

Being fair, the president inherited Roe Vs Wade. Abortion has been a scourge on the land for nearly 40 years. Unfortunately the Black Church ignored Obama’s deplorable record on the moral issues, his heartless, calloused voting record on abortion, and his ever advancing abortion agenda with many of the key Church leadership knowing the decimating effect abortion is having on the African-American community. Moreover, these last few years, much of the Black Leadership — some well meaning with good intentions — have been blindly following and supporting the president’s policies but last Tuesday, Obama lifted the blindfold.

If you didn’t know where Barack Obama was going all along, you should most assuredly know now. You excused his Klan-like relationship with Planned Parenthood and blatant disregard for the Judeo-Christian ethic you claim as your own. Yes, Church, he’s been cheating on you all along, but you ignored the signs because, you just wanted to work it out. You were hoping you could make him love you and take care of home. Well, we ignored the late nights coming home… the missing cufflinks… the strange numbers on his cell phone… and calls made when you were not around. Now the president has let you know, he is in bed with someone else, and demands you must go along with it. And when you asked him why he cheated on you, he said he “talked it over with his daughters and Michelle,” and to add insult to injury, hoping he’d fooled all of us, had the audacity to claim it was teachings he learned from the One who built and founded you….

World Congress of Families VI: Update on Mariage and Family

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

I just returned from Madrid, spain where I attended and spoke at the World Congress of Families Sixth Annual Conference. The World Congress of Families VI was a great success. Nearly 3,000 registered, and full attendance was the case for pretty much the entire event.

Among all the events was a screening of a new movie opening June 1, 2012 called “For Greater Glory”. this was such an inspiring movie and a must see for everyone. I hope you will go out and see the movie on opening weekend. More on the movie in a leter blog.

At the conference they read The Natural Family: A Manifesto which I’d like to share with you. A very good document and a must read. It’s a bit long but worth the read.

After traveling for the last week, it’s good to sleep in my own bed again.

Please pray for me, Priests for Life. and King for America and the work we are doing and that the Lord touches and changes hearts.

“MLK was fair and compassionate with Rustin: Christian compassion does not mean endorsing sin,” says Dr. Alveda King

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things, (better than Utopia) will be added to you. – Matthew 6:33

The 21st century homosexual lobby likes to point to the professional relationship between my uncle Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Bayard Rustin, his openly homosexual staffer who left the movement at the height of the campaign. Rustin attempted to convince Uncle M. L. that homosexual rights were equal with civil rights. Uncle M. L. did not agree, and would not attach the homosexual agenda to the 20th century civil rights struggles. So Mr. Rustin resigned. He was a brilliant strategist and was hired by Uncle M. L. not because he was gay, but because he was a capable strategist. He also was not fired, he chose to resign. My uncle was not a bigot, and he didn’t judge people for the color of their skin nor their sexual orientation. Neither do I. As compassionate Christians who won’t be forced to sit on the back of the bus as far as our spiritual commitments are concerned, we can be compassionate without endorsing sin.

As to the relationship between Mrs. Coretta Scott King and the homosexual lobby, Mrs. King was a very compassionate woman. She and I shared conversations regarding misplaced compassion. When her daughter, my cousin Elder Bernice King marched in favor of traditional marriage a few years ago, the homosexual lobby demanded that Mrs. King publicly rebuke her daughter for her stance. Mrs. King did not rebuke her daughter. The issue here is compassion, and how to show compassion in the face of controversy.

On Wednesday, May 9, 2012, President Barack Hussein Obama, known by many as the first “Black” President of the United States of America, also became the first Black President to endorse homosexual marriage. This startling decision came as no surprise to some who already knew him as the “most abortion minded president in the history of America.” A few days after President Obama’s announcement, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People also endorsed homosexual marriage.

Amid the controversy of these seemingly contemporary 21st century policies, the question repeatedly arises: How can we show compassion to those who believe that homosexuality and abortion are civil rights? My now deceased and beloved Aunt Coretta Scott King supported both the homosexual agenda and the abortion agenda. She even accepted the 1966 Planned Parenthood “Maggie” award in her husband’s stead. Uncle M. L. was prolife. Aunt Coretta was the first to ask me the compassion question in the mid-1980’s. Many have since posed the compassion question to me.

As one who is unabashedly unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I must admit that when the question first came to me, I sought for a humanly wise response. I struggled and groped in my finite mind for something my Daddy A. D. King might say; or my uncle M. L. King, or my Granddaddy King. At first, I didn’t even remember their sermons, just thought about what their answers might be from a civil rights perspective. After all, I knew that they all preached the Bible, and like David, did their best to obey God in spite of their human frailties. I knew that they were pro-life and believed in procreative marriage. After all, I’m the one who coined the now popular slogan: “I have a dream, it’s in my genes.”

I wanted to express to the world that my great-grandfather, Dr. A. D. Williams, a Baptist preacher was an original NAACP founder. I wanted to express that my Granddaddy, also a Baptist preacher, was an early NAACP leader. Following in their footsteps, my Daddy A. D. King and Uncle M. L. King founded the 20th century Civil Rights Movement in the Name of Jesus.

Thank goodness my good friend Day Gardner helped me to get back on track quickly. In a joint press release from the African American prolife community regarding President Obama’s decision, Day wrote: “The NAACP was founded by Blacks who had an understanding and strong faith in God. They were people – pastors and congregations who knew that the Bible, God’s final Word – was very clear on the immorality and wages of homosexuality and abortion. It is appalling that this one time super hero ‘civil rights’ organization supports the breakdown of traditional marriage and the ruthless killing of our unborn children as a civil right. In its decision to please the world, the NAACP has turned its back on the things of GOD and in doing so it has become irrelevant. We must encourage those who know the truth to speak out – to stand firmly on the solid rock – to not look to the right or to the left. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said: “Our lives began to end the day we become silent about things that matter.””

Day’s thoughts lead me to the answer to the compassion question. How can we show compassion for people who want to legitimize sin? If we love them, shouldn’t we try not to hurt their feelings by pointing out that things like abortion and homosexuality are against the Word of God? No matter how many new Bible translations that people come up with, God’s Word isn’t going to change.

My answer came not from what would Daddy do, or Uncle M. L. do, or Granddaddy do? The answer will always be “what would Jesus do?” Living on the edge of a 21st century Babylon with the stench of Sodom and Gomorrah stinging our nostrils, we need to know that the question is relevant and the answer is imperative. Not only what would Jesus do, but what did Jesus do when confronted with sinners? Jesus extended compassion in the form of “ye shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.”

Right now the anti-procreative marriage community is in league with the anti-life community, and together with the NAACP and other sympathizers, they are seeking a world where homosexual marriage and abortion will supposedly set the captives free. To the contrary, it is the Word of God on these and all human issues that sets people free. As Christians, we must have the compassion of Jesus Christ and tell the truth and shame the devil. We must not allow false compassion to force truth to take a seat on the back of the bus.

As a young woman, sitting in the pews of the congregations of my elders, I must admit that I questioned God and the Bible, seeking inconsistencies in the Word. I wanted to enjoy sin, and was looking for loopholes. My Daddy and Uncle M. L. had similar experiences before they were “transformed” by God’s light and love through Jesus Christ.

I guess the best example of the transformation or born again experiences in my family would be my Uncle M. L.’s conversion testimony which came to him in 1956. As was previously stated, Uncle M. L. belongs to a long line of preachers, and during his early years, he depended on the faith of his fathers. Then, in 1956, King experienced his first personal encounter with God.

On page 59 of BEARING THE CROSS (Garrow), there is an account of the experience. At around midnight on Jan. 27, 1956, at the height of the bus boycott in Montgomery, Ala. Uncle M. L. was discouraged by death threats, exhaustion, and the heavy burdens of organizing the community. He also feared for his wife and babies. He was praying at his kitchen table, “It seemed at that moment,” he later told an interviewer, “that I could hear an inner voice saying to me, ‘Martin Luther, stand up for righteousness. Stand up for justice. Stand up for truth. And lo I will be with you….’ I heard the voice of Jesus saying still to fight on.”

The link between Christian faith and the 20th Century Civil Rights Movement was genuine and indistinguishable, in that you could not have one without the other. It was the vision and reality of Christian love that strengthened the Christian warriors. Uncle M. L. had a love for all humanity, that one race of people created by God. Agape love is not easily attained, but Uncle M. L., my Daddy A. D., Daddy King, our hold family legacy has always embraced Agape. God is Love. The Bible teaches us to walk in love, even as my Uncle M. L. was taught. The Bible was Martin Luther King Jr.’s best textbook, always.

Not long after his conversion, Uncle M. L. wrote the following to a youth seeking advice:

From 1950’s Ebony Advice Column

QUESTION: My problem is different from the ones most people have. I am a boy, but I feel about boys the way I ought to feel about girls. I don’t want my parents to know about me. What can I do?

MLK: Your problem is not at all an uncommon one. However, it does require careful attention. The type of feeling that you have toward boys is probably not an innate tendency, but something that has been culturally acquired. … You are already on the right road toward a solution, since you honestly recognize the problem and have a desire to solve it.

Question: About two years ago, I was going with a young lady who became pregnant. I refused to marry her. As a result, I was directly responsible for a crime. It was not until a month later that I realized the awful thing I had done. I begged her to forgive me, to come back, but she has not answered my letters. The thing stays on my mind. What can I do? I have prayed for forgiveness.

MLK: You have made a mistake. … One can never rectify a mistake until he admits that a mistake has been made. Now that you have prayed for forgiveness and acknowledged your mistake, you must turn your vision to the future. … Now that you have repented, don’t concentrate on what you failed to do in the past, but what you are determined to do in the future.

Uncle M. L. showed the compassion and love of Jesus in his letter to this youth. He didn’t help the young man embrace a position contrary to God’s Word, rather he extended God’s loving compassion in his response. We have a sure example of this type of compassion from Jesus Himself:

In the case of “the woman caught in the act,” Jesus said to her accusers: “Ye who are without sin, cast the first stone.” As one by one her accusers dropped their stones, and walked away, Jesus wrote in the dirt. He then asked Mary Magdalene, “woman, where are your accusers?” She realized that her accusers had dispersed. Then, Jesus spoke the startling words of liberation to the woman who would become his first female disciple. “Neither do I accuse you. Go and sin no more.”

Yes friends, Jesus acknowledged the woman’s sins, and he still loved her. He set her free, not just from those who would stone her, but from the behavior that bound her. Loving someone who is bound by sin, dismissing their sanctimonious judges and then setting the captives free by showing them a way out of sin is the answer to the compassion question. Show compassion by showing people the liberty and love of This Same Jesus Christ: yesterday, today and forever.

To do this, we must be transparent, admit to and repent of our own sins first, and then be the examples traveling the road of repentance and redemption. There is love, mercy, compassion and grace in what we have to offer. We just have to be bold enough and strong enough to love.
