NEW YORK – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today praised Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin and the Kentucky legislature for enacting the first two pro-life laws in the nation this year. One measure will protect from abortion babies who can feel pain and the second will offer a woman the chance to view a live ultrasound image of her child prior to an abortion.
“For years, a few pro-abortion legislators blocked the will of Kentuckians to enact measures that would protect women and their unborn babies,” said Fr. Pavone. “Obviously, with Kentucky legislators passing two pro-life bills in their first week of work and with Governor Bevin signing them into law today, the obstructionism of the abortion lobby has quickly and decisively ended. This is a great day for Kentucky and for life!”
After last November’s elections, Republicans were given a majority in the Kentucky House of Representatives for the first time in almost 100 years. The result has been the swift adoption of pro-life legislation that had been denied a vote under the Democrats’ control of the House.
“That these two bills were passed with overwhelming margins by both houses of the Kentucky legislature speaks to their popularity,” added Fr. Pavone. “That Governor Bevin is signing the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act as the state’s first new law of 2017 speaks to its importance. Kentucky is blessed to have leaders who serve all her people, born and unborn.”
