Methods vary, but all of them are brutal. Those with smaller bodies are sliced apart and vacuumed up with blade-edged suction tubes. Those who are a bit too big for tubes are cut into pieces and scraped away with curved steel knives.
Once they’ve grown too large to cut, they must be torn apart. A pliers-like tool is used to grab each limb, one by one, and twist until it breaks away and blood flows from the stump. The spine is snapped. The skull is crushed. The torso is extracted.
If too large for dismemberment, they are often killed by saline. Forced to swallow caustic salts, they convulse and hemorrhage, for up to an hour or more, until they die. Those who have lived six months or more are drenched with chemicals or extracted by hysterotomy.
For two decades, it was legal to deliver them live, feet first, until all but the head had emerged from the birth canal. Medical scissors were used to puncture the base of the skull and open a hole. A vacuum tube was inserted to suck out the brain of the living victim. Eventually, the United States Congress decided that this method went too far. Five of nine Supreme Court Justices agreed.
The physiological mechanisms for pain reception are in place as early as six weeks from conception. According to extensive congressional testimony from numerous anesthesiologists, pain is fully felt at twenty weeks, and the mother’s anesthesia does not provide relief.
