What was St. John Paul II going to announce the day he was shot in Vatican Square?
How does abortion in the military affect a soldier’s readiness for battle?
What happens to abortion clinic workers who fail to report the abuses they see every day?
These provocative questions – and many more – will be answered in the new season of Defending Life on EWTN.
The new season – the 27th since the series began in 1995 – will premiere this week. It can be seen at 2:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday, March 4, and again at 11 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 5.
Hosts Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life, and Fr. Denis Wilde, OSA, Associate Director, also will spend several episodes highlighting Shockwaves, the powerful new initiative of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign. The aim of Shockwaves is to raise awareness of the fact that the damage abortion causes touches everyone – mothers and fathers, grandparents, siblings, friends, abortion clinic workers, abortionists, and even pro-life activists – and to let all of these people know that healing is available.
“On Defending Life, we concentrate on news you can use,” Mrs. Morana said. “It’s our hope that our viewers learn something new in every episode that they can make part of their pro-life toolbox.”
There’s no doubt the show has influenced viewers over the years.
Eleanor McCullen, who last year was victorious at the U.S. Supreme Court in a case that challenged the constitutionality of a 35-foot buffer zone around Massachusetts abortion clinics, had this to say about Defending Life, which she has been watching since the 1990s:
“I saw the passion and vision of Father Frank Pavone and I loved what he was doing. He stepped out in a leap of faith and the Lord ran with him.”
Tamah, a member of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign who does sidewalk counseling in Nashville, watched an episode featuring former Planned Parenthood worker Catherine Adair, and immediately sent us an email:
“Thank you so much. I just finished watching Defending Life which featured Catherine Adair. Her testimony was so full of truth and information and I am so happy I saw this tonight! I can use so much of her info in sidewalk counseling at Planned Parenthood downtown in Nashville. The program was great!”

“There is no ‘filler’ in our show,” said Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life. “We pack each episode with information that those on the frontlines of the abortion battle with us can use the next day.”
