Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Psalm 127:3
It’s such a pity when a 14 year old teenager has more respect for life that the parents who gave birth to her. That’s the case in Corpus Christi, TX where the parents of a 14 year old teen are trying to force their daughter to have an abortion. Their daughter is about two months pregnant and wants to have her baby. The family of this brave teenager “allegedly tried to force her to have an abortion last month” as reported by KIII News.
Stephen Casey, an attorney with Texas Center for Defense of Life (TCDL), was in court again yesterday to try and get a temporary restraining order (TRO) which was issued last month extended through her pregnancy. That request was denied but the TRO was extended another 15 days and appointed a guardian ad litem, a family attorney for the girl, to help her make decisions in her best interest.
My first thought when I read this story is that these parents have no idea what they will do to their daughter and grandchild if they force her to have an abortion.
Abortion has been linked to many physical problems including complications from the abortion procedure, breast cancer, and even death. Abortions has also been linked to psychological problems like depression, relationship problems, suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, drug and alcohol abuse and many others.
If the parents of this 14 year old visited sites like Priests for Life, Silent No More Awareness and Rachel’s Vineyard and did a little investigative work, they would see that any perceived problems they feel their daughter would have be carrying the baby to term would be far outweighed by the harm and impact that an abortion can have on the rest of her life.
If they feel that their daughter is too young to care for the child they would be much better off supporting her in carrying the baby to term and encouraging her to put the baby up for adoption.
What I think gets lost in the abortion debate is that life is a gift from God. When we reject that gift, we are also rejecting the giver, God. When we do that, nothing good can come of it. On the other hand, if we accept the gift and thank God for that gift, He will bless us. If we make prayerful decisions that honor God, then our decisions will receive His blessings and we cannot go wrong, whether we decide to keep the baby or offer it up to another loving family.
Parents should protect their children, born and unborn. That is what this young mother is trying to do, protect her child. Mary, the Virgin Mother was only fourteen when she conceived Jesus and that turned out GREAT! What if her parents had forced her to get rid of her child? No salvation, no redemption.
