The weapons of our warfare: Discerning the times in the midst of new “supernatural” movies and stuff

"Star Wars" Lasar swords are mystical force weapons. Even more so is the case for Heaven's arsenol
But remember, our weapons are not carnal like this

But remember, our weapons are not carnal like this

What does “Drag Me to Hell” or the upcoming television show “V”, or the soon to be released movie “Legions” have to do with prolife? Well, like it or not, the movie industry, and film, music and television, radio and the internet shape our consciousness. Even if you don’t have a TV and don’t go to movies, someone you know does. It has even been said that the “Media” is the fourth branch of government, impacting policy and the very quality of our lives.

Having said all of this, I remember a prophetic friend of mine said last summer, that there would be a new flood of sci-fi and occult genre films and music that would prepare people for an onslaught of the supernatural. It is happening. Of course, in the very old days, we had Dracula, Frankenstien and the like. Then the Exorcist, Damian, Rosemary’s Baby, etc. Now, there are so many vampire movies that we can’t count them. And the latest promise even more seduction to the dark side (“Star Wars” with Yoda, Skywalker and Vadar.)

So, what does all of this have to do with the sanctity of life? All of these projects have some element of truth. People perish for lack of knowledge… In 2 Corinthians 10:2-5, the Apostle Paul taught us that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, like with earthy swords and shields and the like: “but when I come I may have to be very bold with those who think we act from purely human motives. 3 We are human, but we don’t wage war with human plans and methods. 4 We use God’s mighty weapons, not mere worldly weapons, to knock down the Devil’s strongholds. 5 With these weapons we break down every proud argument that keeps people from knowing God. With these weapons we conquer their rebellious ideas, and we teach them to obey Christ.”

So like the Bible says, we have to become bold and skillful with using Heaven’s weapons. Like those in Ephesians chapter six.

And, by the way, we have to change our spiritual diets, and be nurtured and nourished by the Fruit of the Spirit! Galatians 5:22 But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control.

So, a good spiritual regimen is needful! Now, what do spiritual weapons “look” like? Well, in the first place, we can’t see them with human eyes. We can’t wield them with human hands and bodies. The closest thing we can even compare them to in our finite minds, may be like the Star Wars laser swords, which are mystical in that they use “force” and “light” for power. Even more so, we have to use faith and spiritual senses with the weapons of Ephesians 6: 10 A final word: Be strong with the Lord’s mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and tricks of the Devil. 12 For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms. 13 Use every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy in the time of evil, so that after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the sturdy belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News, so that you will be fully prepared. In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere.

So now, here’s the fit with the prolife message. Today, there are so many distractions, so much to pull us off our spiritual focus. So fight the battle Read the Bible and learn GOD’s spiritual warfare! I could hate the director of the local Planned Parenthood office, or I could pray for that person, that GOD would change his or her heart. I could attack my friends who are in a different political party, or I could pray that they would become beacons of light in their own party. I could sneer at those who think condoms are the answers to society’s problem, or I could lovingly take time to show them the more excellent way of delayed gratification. Only love can conquer hate, after all!

Until next time, may the Force (Of Heaven) be with you!
