While participating in a hearing on abortion and women’s health, the panel was asked whether rape, incest and other types of abuse towards women would justify abortion. The resounding response was: “two wrongs don’t make a right. In the event of sexual abuse, and subsequent pregnancy, it would do the woman more harm than good to further abuse her by adding the after effects of abortion to her plight. Women need love, not abusue; not abortion.”
A study by the University of Iowa found that 14% of women seeking abortions in Iowa had experienced physical or sexual abuse in the last year. The Chief Operating Officer for Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, who was one of the authors of the study, said that the results “stunned” the researchers.
The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer reports that a new Sri Lankan study finds that abortion nearly triples the risk of breast cancer. The study also states that the risk of breast cancer is reduced by breast feeding.
