The Second Commandment

The Second Commandment is “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.” This does not only mean that we shouldn’t use the Lord’s name in cursing when we are angry. It also means that we should not use God’s name or His Word to justify actions that he abhors.

There are religious groups and individuals in our society who do exactly that when it comes to abortion. They say they are “prayerfully pro-choice.” Groups like the “Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice” claim that God’s word allows abortion, and they even celebrate it with pro-choice liturgies.

This is a distortion of God’s word and an abuse of his name. It is a direct violation of the second commandment. Let’s honor the name of God by honoring the lives he creates.

I believe that young Christian women brought up to believe that abstinence until marriage is the only way who get pregnant before marriage may feel they have no other choice then abortion in order to avoid shame and humiliation disrespect and down grading brought on by their family members.

I am a priest of the Diocese of Erie, PA. My comment does not concern this blog, but the Nov-Dec Newsletter. I was disappointed (but not surprised) that you did not speak of the scandalous presence of 2 Cardinals at the funeral ceremonies of pro-abortion Senator Edward Kennedy.

I have heard that the Catholic Bishops have now signed on to the Pelosi health care bill after some revisions were made to prohibit funds from being used for abortion–of course abortion is evil and this bill is a govt power grab, so shame on the Catholic Bishops for partnering with the Democrats in anything–they are the party of Godless secularism, homosexual sodomy and gay “marriage” with the blood of millions of butchered babies on their hands. Why can’t all Catholics, indeed all Christians, make a stand against the Democrats instead of giving legitimacy to this party of atheists?
