Fr. Pavone: At the core of every political issue is the right to life

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

Priests for Life welcomed today the document Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, which the United States bishops are re-proposing, in order to give voters guidance in making their decisions. You can find the document at: priestsforlife.org/magisterium/bishops/fcstatement.pdf

Fr. Pavone and Priests for Life have formed the “Vote Pro-Life Coalition,” whereby many organizations are joining together to educate and mobilize voters in a non-partisan way. Fr. Pavone explained, “We ask the faithful to read, study and discuss this document.

In the new Introductory Note that accompanies the document, an especially helpful comment is that the guide ‘does not offer a quantitative listing of issues for equal consideration.’ To that we say ‘AMEN!’ Not all issues are equal; at the core of every issue is the right to life.”

Priests for Life points out that this document is not to be read in a vacuum, but in the light of all the Church documents on political responsibility, in particular Living the Gospel of Life, issued in 1998 by the full body of bishops. Priests for Life has distributed tens of thousands of those documents and has a study guide on it. Also, many bishops will issue their own statements as the election season intensifies, and Priests for Life will publicize them all on its special election page: PoliticalResponsibility.com.

Fr. Pavone also commented, “One of the messages of this coalition is that the theoretical principles which the Church teaches need to be understood in the practical context that blood is flowing in the streets from the holocaust of abortion. No matter what you want to say about how many other issues there are – and that’s true – when you’re in the middle of a battlefield with a few thousand casualties a day, you’re not exactly thinking about how bad the price of tea is. Let’s be realistic. If a candidate supports terrorism, you don’t say, ‘I disagree with you on that, but what’s your health care plan?’ Abortion is not one iota better than terrorism.”

Today is the Feast of St. Faustina

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

Today is the Feast of St. Faustina, to whom Jesus revealed the wonders of Divine Mercy. Many of you pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Did you know that this prayer was given to St. Faustina especially because of the sin of abortion? God revealed to her that because of this evil, the world needs His mercy more than ever. He even permitted St. Faustina to suffer special pains, representing the pain of abortion. In 2003, Pope John Paul II, who had a deep personal devotion to the Divine Mercy, issued a special papal blessing to all who pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for an end to abortion, for mothers who abort, and for the conversion of abortionists. You can obtain the full text of the blessing at priestsforlife.org.

Priests for Life unveils new home page

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Life-minded people who want to be more deeply involved with the movement to save the unborn from abortion can find everything they need on the newly unveiled home page at PriestsforLife.org.

“Our web site has always given visitors a treasure trove of information, but this new design — launched yesterday — makes it much easier for people to find exactly what they need,” said Father Pavone, who oversaw the work of the PFL technology team. “Many consider our site to be the most comprehensive site they have seen on abortion. Along with all the information, we continue to make it as interactive as possible.”

A main feature of the user-friendly page is the “Action Alert” box just below the masthead. By clicking on the box, pro-lifers can find out what they can do — perhaps that very day — to advance the pro-life cause.

Also new are the “personas,” located on the left side of the page. Analysis of PFL’s web traffic indicated that the majority of visitors fall into one of four categories: Clergy looking for resources; pregnant women looking for alternatives to abortion; women and men seeking healing after abortion, and pro-lifers looking for ways to become more involved in the movement. Now with one click, all of them can find just what they need.

A new live Twitter feed lets visitors keep up with the latest posts by Father Pavone and other members of the Priests for Life Pastoral Team, and the various You Tube channels that the team operates likewise feed directly into the front page.

The page still includes daily updates and the travel schedule for the busy Pastoral Team and all the features visitors have become familiar with.

If you haven’t seen the new site, check it out at PriestsforLife.org.

Steven Tyler’s Ex-Fiancée will be Silent No More about her Abortion

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

For 36 years she has kept quiet about her relationship with the rock star Steven Tyler and the abortion he talked her into in 1975, but Julia Holcomb will be Silent No More.

Janet Morana and Georgette Forney, co-founders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, have announced that Ms. Holcomb has joined the Campaign that gives women and men a platform to speak about the way abortion has harmed them and millions of others just like them, and to let those who are still suffering in silence know that healing and redemption is possible.

Ms. Holcomb’s incredible story is proof of that.

Now a married mother of six sons, Ms. Holcomb is setting the record straight about her relationship with the Aerosmith frontman. “I had decided I would never talk about Steven, but he continues to talk about me, including in his two books,” Ms. Holcomb said. “I decided it was time for me to tell the truth about our relationship.”

An interview with Ms. Holcomb, taped last month during her visit to Priests for Life headquarters in New York, can be seen at silentnomoreawareness.org/ and priestsforlife.org.

LifeSiteNews has its own video interview with Ms. Holcomb, which can be seen at lifesitenews.com

Ms. Holcomb and her husband contacted Kevin Burke, co-founder of Rachel’s Vineyard, after she read an article Burke wrote for National Review about the regret Tyler has expressed about the abortion.(www.priestsforlife.org/articles/3633-post-abortion-trauma). She then wrote her own story, which was published in May by LifeSite News. (www.priestsforlife.org/testimonies/2155-The-Light-of-the-World—the-Steven-Tyler-and-Julia-Holcomb-story)

“Julia’s story is an incredibly powerful witness to the healing available to everyone who has been wounded by abortion,” Burke said. “She escaped from a place of darkness and emerged whole, strong and ready to fight for women and men who are still struggling to find the light.”

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life and Pastoral Director of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, said he hopes Ms. Holcomb’s courage and commitment to life will urge other women and men hurting in the aftermath of abortion to seek healing.

“So many are suffering in the very same way that Julia Holcomb suffered,” he said. “Our task is to let them know that the healing can begin now.”

Since the launch of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in 2003, 4,845 women and men have shared their testimonies publicly at over 865 gatherings in 48 states and 10 countries where more than 110,830 attendees have heard the truth about abortion’s negative aftereffects. More than 10,100 people representing 57 countries are registered to be Silent No More. Raising awareness about the hurtful aftermath of abortion and the help that is available to cope with the pain are two of the Campaign’s goals. The Campaign has over 1,300 testimonies posted here, with over 120 that are shared via video! The Silent No More Awareness Campaign is a joint project of Anglicans for Life and Priests for Life.
