Girl Scout Employee Quits, Not Allowed to Wear Pro-Life Shirt

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

An Arizona college student who stopped in at her workplace wearing a pro-life t-shirt quit her job rather than obey a supervisor who ordered her to turn the “Pray to End Abortion” shirt inside out.

Renise Rodriguez, 21-year-old religious studies major at the University of Arizona, worked as a Girl Experience Associate for the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona in Tucson. When she went to her office on January 3rd during her off-duty hours to prepare materials for a meeting, she was told twice by a supervisor that if she planned to stay in the office, or attend a troop meeting, she would have to turn her shirt inside out.

“I started to get emotional because of the way I was treated so I left without preparing for the meeting and told my co-worker that she would have to get the stuff together,” Miss Rodriguez said. “As I was driving out, I called a friend crying and told her the story. I was so shocked at the way I was treated. After contemplating it for the rest of that day, I decided to write my letter of resignation.”

Her letter did not specify her reason for resigning, but she plans to discuss it with another supervisor when she does her formal exit interview.

“It is the courage and conviction of young people like Renise that gives us hope that we are closer than ever to winning this battle and bringing an end to child killing in America,” said Bryan Kemper, Director of Youth Outreach for Priests for Life. “Priests for Life is committed to educating, activating and equipping young people to be a voice for life and young heroes like Renise prove this generation is a pro-life generation.”

Father Pavone applauded the young woman:

“What does the pro-life movement need the most right now? It is not large numbers of people who believe abortion is wrong; it is a small, courageous band of people who are willing to risk and sacrifice everything to end abortion,” he said. “Renise is exactly that kind of person, who has not only the right attitude about abortion, but the passion it takes to make the protection of the unborn our number one priority! Our Youth Outreach, and all the branches of our Priests for Life/Gospel of Life Ministry, will continue to instill this spirit in those we serve.”

Noting the shirt Renise was wearing was designed by Stand True Ministry, a pro-life youth organization he founded, Kemper said, “We will be sending her several more of our pro-life shirts to help her stand up and be a voice wherever she is.”

Today is the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord

Monday, January 9th, 2012

Today we celebrate the Lord’s Baptism, and reflect on the meaning of baptism itself. This sacrament gives us many pro-life lessons.

When we baptize a baby, it proves that God chooses us before we choose Him, for every life belongs to Him. And baptism is not just about that baby, but about the whole Church welcoming him or her. All the members of the Church extend their hearts and arms in welcome of that new life. Baptism shows that we are always called to give a welcoming “YES” to life, and never the harsh “no” of abortion.

The so-called “pro-choice” message is that we choose whom we will care for. Baptism teaches us that we are responsible even for those whom we do not choose.

Priests for Life Announces Four-Pronged Attack on Abortion Industry in 2012

Monday, January 9th, 2012

Amarillo, TX — Fr. Pavone revealed plans today to target the abortion industry in 2012 that he is confident will close many abortion mills and place many abortionists in jail.

“The approach,” Fr. Pavone explained, “is simple: a) uncover the ways abortionists break the law and get them punished for it; b) reveal the nature of the abortion procedure itself; c) show the harm abortion does to the very people the abortion industry claims to serve, and d) pray more intensely than ever for abortion to end.”

“Building on the work done by many other groups with whom we collaborate, we will begin this month to accelerate the investigation of abortion clinics, which break laws left and right. We will bring special attention to the ten abortionists in Texas who have to answer to the Texas Medical Board for numerous violations, and will see to it that they are held accountable,” Fr. Pavone explained.

“As I have said since I began my work with Priests for Life in 1993, our job is to exploit the weaknesses of the abortion industry, which is collapsing under its own weight. The evil it does cannot withstand the light of human conscience.”

In the coming weeks, Priests for Life will provide information to churches across America, to pro-life groups, media outlets, and to the general public regarding the details of this four-pronged strategy. “We will also communicate to prison chaplains a simple message: get ready to see a lot more abortionists in the jail cells.”

Let Us Renew Our Commitment

Friday, January 6th, 2012

This month many of you will march for life, in Washington, D.C. and in your own towns and cities. The day will come when Roe v Wade will be overturned. The Court could say that the people can decide whether abortion should be legal in their own states, but the Court could also rule that the unborn child must be protected as a person under the 14th Amendment, just like the born must be protected. The Roe v Wade decision itself admits that if the unborn child can be shown to be a person, abortion cannot be legal at all. Reversal of this disastrous decision remains a key goal for which the Church and the pro-life movement continue to work and pray. As pro-life people march this month in various events, let’s renew our commitment to that goal.

Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries Congratulate New Cardinals

Friday, January 6th, 2012

Father Pavone issued the following statement today to congratulate the new Cardinals named by Pope Benedict XVI.

“On behalf of the international association of Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries, and our entire pastoral team, I want to congratulate the new Cardinals, but more importantly, assure them of our union with them in the defense of our unborn brothers and sisters, “usque ad sanguinis effusionem” (that is, unto the shedding of our blood, which is what the bright red color of Cardinals signifies).”

May I extend to you a personal invitation to join me for the Annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. on January 23? On the morning of the March, I will lead and preach at an interdenominational gathering on Capitol Hill at 8:30 am and present a pro-life award to outstanding leaders. This is the premiere indoor pro-life event on Capitol Hill. Admission is free. Then, as the Marchers reach the Supreme Court, I will be gathered with the women and men of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign. Those hurt by abortion will share their testimonies. Please come to show them your spiritual support and gratitude for exposing the damage abortion does. Let’s match their courage with ours in spreading their stories. Join Us in Being Silent No More

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

At the March for Life in Washington, D.C., women who have had abortions lead the way. As they march they carry signs that say “I Regret My Abortion.” This Silent No More Awareness Campaign brings to the March a renewed emphasis on the fact that the pro-abortion movement is wrong, not only when they deny the humanity of the child, but also when they claim that abortion helps the mother. Then, in the late afternoon, these mothers gather at the steps of the Supreme Court, and share their testimonies one by one. Fathers of aborted babies are also there, with signs that say “I Regret Lost Fatherhood.” If you have lost a child to abortion, we want to hear from you. Visit silentnomoreawareness.org and join our efforts.

We Must Be the Media

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

The March for Life in Washington, as well as the Walk for Life in San Francisco, are always great events each year. People show up to express their support of the unborn and to encourage one another. They also bear witness to the wider society, that in order to have justice at all, we must have justice for everyone. Often the media does not give adequate coverage to these events. We need to continue to challenge them and build relationships with them, but at the same time, we must be the media. We must be the ones to carry the news about the pro-life movement to our families, friends, and co-workers. When the media fails to cover these events, we become even more obliged to fill the gap. Don’t be afraid to speak up today!

Silent No More Awareness Campaign Launches New Web Site

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

The Silent No More Awareness Campaign today unveiled a new home page designed to make its three-fold mission immediately understandable and accessible.

The top of the page at SilentNoMoreAwareness.org features buttons for women who are pregnant and need help, for those who are suffering from the pain of a past abortion and need healing, and for those who want to become more involved in reaching out to pregnant women and post-abortive mothers and fathers.

“When we launched our first site in 2003, we wanted to make sure it had all the information we wanted to get out,” said Georgette Forney, co-founder of Silent No More and president of Anglicans for Life. “The new site makes sure we are reaching all the people we want to share that information with. The connection with those we’re trying to reach is more obvious.”

Janet Morana, co-founder of Silent No More and executive director of Priests for Life, said the updated look of the new site helps make it much more user-friendly.

“It allows visitors to clearly and quickly get to wherever they want to go,” Mrs. Morana said.

The testimonies of women and men who regret their past abortions have always been a popular draw for site visitors, and are still readily accessible. A new “Featured Story of the Day,” brings visitors to the testimony section, which also can be accessed from the “Stories” button at the top of the page.

“The voices of the men and women who have had abortions, and have come to regret them, are the most powerful weapons we have in our fight to end abortion,” said Father Pavone, pastoral director of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign.

Proof of the Silent No More web site’s power came with a phone call to the campaign office the day before New Year’s Eve. Mrs. Forney answered a call from a mother of three who said she had an appointment to abort her fourth child the following day. After reading some of the testimonies, she realized “She didn’t want to have the regret these women suffer from. And she was concerned that, although she is always able to forgive others, she might not ever be able to forgive herself.”

By the end of their conversation, the woman realized she didn’t need to “depend on abortion” to solve the challenges the unplanned pregnancy presented. She told Mrs. Forney she was canceling her appointment.

“As we unveil this web site, we invite all groups and Churches to use it as a key resource for help after abortion and for strength to those who might otherwise make that mistake,” Father Pavone said.

Visit the new site at SilentNoMoreAwareness.org. To reach the office by phone, call 1-800-707-6635 or 1-888-735-3448.
