Feast of the Visitation

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

In the first chapter of Luke, we read, “When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!’”

This is a marvelous encounter of two unborn children, one of whom was the Lord and the other the one who would announce Him to the world. Both of them had been specially announced and named by angels who appeared to their parents. Clearly, God gives us a calling before our birth, and is the One who prepares us for that calling. He has a relationship with children in the womb, and became one Himself. Why, then, should we be afraid to defend them and speak up for them?

Voices of Experience

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

Even if you have never been involved in an abortion, you can help those who have had abortions make their voices heard. The Silent No More Awareness Campaign mobilizes men and women who have lost children to abortion. The Campaign helps these men and women find healing and gives them opportunities, in organized gatherings, to share their testimonies of pain and healing.

You can serve as a “Regional Coordinator,” to organize events at which these women and men will speak up and say, “I Regret My Abortion” and “I Regret Lost Fatherhood.” These events reach the public with the message that abortion is a dead end, an empty promise, and that the doors of the Church are open to all who seek forgiveness. Become a Regional Coordinator – find out more at SilentNoMoreAwareness.org.

Priests for Life supports ban on gender-specific abortion

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

Washington, DC — Fr. Frank issued a statement today in favor of the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA), which is expected to be voted on in the House of Representatives this evening.

The measure would outlaw any abortion performed because of the gender of a baby.

“This is one of those measures that drives home the point that abortions in America can be performed for any reason whatsoever. People often react in horrified unbelief that there even is such a thing as sex-selection abortion, but the existence of legislation to stop it can awaken the consciences of many. Let’s pass this law, and let’s use the vote of our Representatives on this bill as an election issue,” Fr. Pavone said.

It is estimated that 163 million women are “missing” because of sex-selective abortion around the globe.

An Image is worth a thousand words

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

A visitor to our website recently wrote:

I stumbled upon your website and found the abortion pictures. What can I say? I use to be very pro-choice, provided that it was done within the first 3 months of pregnancy. However, after viewing your website, images and descriptions of abortion procedures – I have completely swung to pro-life. Thank you for helping me to realize what a terrible, terrible thing abortion is. There is no right way to do it, murder is murder…I congratulate you on posting this very important and disgusting information on your website.

Many visitors to the priestsforlife.org website have the same kind of conversion. You can help people change their minds. Show them the pictures of abortion at priestsforlife.org. Download, email, and print these photos. Nothing is more effective in turning people against abortion.

A Consistent Message

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

The Holy Spirit is God, and all He does and speaks to us is consistent with what God the Father and God the Son have done and spoken. In the sixteenth chapter of John’s Gospel we read these words of Jesus: “He will not speak on his own, but will speak only what he hears…because he will have received from me what he will announce to you.” In John 14 we read: “The Holy Spirit…will…remind you of all that I told you.” Everything the Holy Spirit will ever say to us, individually or as a Church, will always reinforce the Gospel of Life. No disciple can claim the “freedom of the Spirit” to contradict the commandments, including that which forbids the killing of the innocent, whether born or unborn.

May 27 is the first Voter Registration Sunday!

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

STATEN ISLAND, NY — Priests for Life is calling upon all people of faith to register as many Americans as possible to vote in the upcoming elections.

To encourage religious leaders of all denominations to become involved in this vital effort, Priests for Life has designated this Sunday, May 27, as the first of three Voter Registration Sundays.

“Assisting people to register to vote is one of the best ways to exercise our citizenship,” said Father Frank. “Non-partisan voter registration is both legal and appropriate for Churches to do, because it is a way to assist members of the congregation to exercise their faith in day- to-day life, and to take advantage of the freedom God gives us in this country.”

Visitors to priestsforlife.org/vote will find all the information and materials they will need to conduct a successful registration drive. July 1 and September 9 also have been set aside as Voter Registration Sundays. Priests for Life has spearheaded this effort by forming the “Vote Pro-life Coalition,” in which dozens of national organizations pursue the same goals related to non-partisan political involvement.

“Voter registration drives fall within the activities that are permitted to tax-exempt organizations and churches,” said Father Pavone. “The only thing standing in our way is not the IRS, but our own fears.”

The Spirit of Truth

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. His gifts enable us to understand created realities, their value, and their relationship to the Creator and to our happiness. We should ask the Holy Spirit to give us an understanding of the value of the human person. The Spirit enables us to cry out, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself gives witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

Abortion, on the other hand, sees the human person as a disposable object. The Spirit of Truth likewise shows us the truth about our sins. In Him we come to understand the difference between good and evil. This works directly against the dynamics of the abortion movement, which identifies a moral evil as a “right.” “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil.”

Silent No More founders: From China, we can learn the Truth about Abortion & Breast Cancer

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

Janet Morana and Georgette Forney, co-founders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, today issued the following statement about a new study conducted in China that establishes an abortion-breast cancer link:

“This is a perfect time for a study that finds an abortion-breast cancer link to come out of China, while the world’s attention is still focused on the fate of forced abortion protester Chen Guangcheng,” Mrs. Morana and Mrs. Forney said. “Perhaps it’s time for an honest assessment of how this common surgical procedure – sold to American women and forced on unwilling Chinese women – is actually hurting all women.

The study reported in the Asian Pacific Journal of Breast Cancer Prevention concluded that “compared with women who had no history of induced abortion, women with a previous induced abortion had a significant increased risk of breast cancer.” For older women, the risk of developing breast cancer was even higher. You can read the complete study here.

These findings were not unexpected.

“Medical professionals in the pro-life community in the United States have recognized the abortion breast cancer link for decades, but our ‘pro-choice’ culture can’t hear a bad word spoken about abortion,” the Silent No More co-founders said. “From China, where abortion is a tool of a repressive government, we can learn the truth. Abortion hurts women in so many ways, and one of those ways is that it increases the risk of breast cancer, which annually kills more than 39,000 women in the United States alone.

“Abortionists should be required by law to share this vital information with the women who come to them to end their pregnancies.”

Since the launch of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in 2003, 4,845 women and men have shared their testimonies publicly at over 865 gatherings in 48 states and 10 countries where more than 110,830 attendees have heard the truth about abortion’s negative aftereffects. More than 10,100 people representing 57 countries are registered to be Silent No More. Raising awareness about the hurtful aftermath of abortion and the help that is available to cope with the pain are two of the Campaign’s goals. The Campaign has over 1,300 testimonies posted here, with over 120 that are shared via video!

The Silent No More Awareness Campaign is a joint project of Anglicans for Life and Priests for Life. For more information, please visit our website: SilentNoMoreAwareness.org

The Stigma Still Remains

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

In many states, abortionists come in from a different state in order to perform the procedure. One of the ways to reduce or eliminate abortion in a state, therefore, is for the legislature to pass a law that says abortions done in that state must be done by a doctor who resides within the state. Let’s make it as difficult as possible for them to do business.

The fact that so many have to travel across state lines is, of course, a good sign. It shows a turn-off in the medical community to doing this procedure. Whatever doctors may think about abortions, their view of abortionists is uniformly negative. Long live the stigma! It is a stigma that the pro-choice propaganda machine has never been able to erase.

Join Us This Week in Prayer

Monday, May 21st, 2012

Pro-life people around the world are invited to join us this week in saying a special Novena to the Holy Spirit, Lord and Giver of Life. You can view the prayer and sign up to participate on our web site.

The period of time between the Ascension and Pentecost was the original novena, when the disciples prayed at Jesus’ instruction that they would be clothed with power from on high.

That Holy Spirit, the Advocate, made them bold advocates for the Gospel. The same boldness is needed by us as we announce the sanctity of life and denounce the many attacks on life, beginning with abortion and euthanasia.

Let us pray in this novena that He will make us bold advocates for the unborn and all the vulnerable.
