Victims and Victors

Tuesday, July 31st, 2012

The question of abortion in cases of rape concerns many Americans. Should it not be allowed even in those cases, they ask, especially when they think of their own daughters.

It is understandable and natural to want to protect one’s own daughter. But that’s precisely why abortion is not the solution, even if she is raped. Rape causes a trauma, and abortion causes yet another one. An abortion does not un-rape a woman, but adds another layer of shame and guilt upon an already wounded soul.

The book “Victims and Victors” talks about studies of women who, having conceived through rape, had abortions, but then suffered more from the abortion than from the rape.

Protecting our daughters means doing all we can to keep them safe both from rape and abortion.

Priests for Life welcomes Arizona decision on late-term abortion

Tuesday, July 31st, 2012

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement today regarding the decision of a federal court to uphold a ban on abortion after 20 weeks in Arizona.

“Priests for Life welcomes the decision of Judge James Teilborg regarding the Arizona law protecting children from painful dismemberment,” Father Pavone said. “Priests for Life vigorously supports similar laws in other states and the law that will be voted on today in Congress regarding protecting children in the District of Columbia.”

In the Arizona case, Judge Teilborg ruled that the law set to go into effect tomorrow is constitutional because it does not prohibit women from having abortions. He also noted in his decision that the state had provided “substantial and well-documented” evidence that a child at 20 weeks’ gestation or later has the capacity to feel pain.

“On an educational level, Priests for Life is bringing to the public’s attention the ‘D and E’ dismemberment abortion (see www.StopDandE.com).”  Father Pavone said. “The abortion debate should not be so abstract that we forget we’re talking about pulling the arms and legs off of babies. To those asking for our vote in November, I ask, do you or do you not think dismemberment should be legal? Every voter should ask the same.”

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Tuesday, July 31st, 2012

This reflection is taken from my book Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Rom. 8:16).

Reflection: The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, enables us to understand created realities, their value, and their relationship to the Creator and to our own happiness. We can therefore ask the Holy Spirit to give us an understanding of the value of the human person. The Spirit enables us to cry, “Abba! Father!” Abortion, on the other hand, sees the human person as a disposable object.

Prayer: How wonderful are your works, O Lord. Through your eternal Spirit, you enable me to understand those works as coming from your hand. I Praise you forever! Amen!

Victimized by rape

Monday, July 30th, 2012

Many people who oppose abortion nevertheless think it should be allowed in cases of rape. They want, of course, to be on the side of the woman who was victimized. So do we all. And being on her side does not mean being against her baby. We can love them both.

The truth is that she wants us to love them both. Studies of women who conceived through rape reveal that such women do not want abortions. It is people around them who jump to the conclusion that abortion is the best solution.

But the women themselves don’t want it. They want to be healed of the trauma caused by the violence inflicted on them. And they know instinctively that committing another act of violence against someone else will not bring that healing.

EMERGENCY VOTE IN CONGRESS! This Bill will STOP “PAIN-CAPABLE” ABORTIONS!

Monday, July 30th, 2012

“Surprise” Vote Being Taken in Congress
in less than 24 hours! — Tuesday, July 31st.

QUICKDROP WHAT YOU’RE DOING!

We MUST Tell Congress to
STOP LATE-TERM ABORTIONS NOW!

I’m sending this e-mail to you on Monday. (7/30)
The Emergency Vote in Congress is TOMORROW!!

PLEASE ACT NOW if I’ve reached you in time…

Dear Friends,

You’ve heard me use this quote many times before…

“A society will be judged on the basis of how it treats its weakest members – the last, the least, the littlest.”

Abortion, of course, is the worst form of human mistreatment imaginable. It is the intentional destruction of an innocent human life at its most vulnerable stage: In the sanctity of a mother’s womb.

Here at Priests for Life, we work every day to make all abortion ILLEGAL once again – because intentionally killing a helpless innocent little baby can never be justified.

But when one actually considers the methods of abortion, it’s just too horrible to even contemplate. Yet is it 100% LEGAL — and growing in frequency every day.

I’m talking about the intentional killing by DISMEMBERMENT of LATE-TERM BABIES (third trimester) who are CAPABLE OF FEELING EVERY BIT OF THE PAIN of being torn limb from limb – just like you and I would!

You probably already know that late-term abortion IS legal in America—although states can add some restrictions.

And it is legal in WASHINGTON, D.C.

Now in some states, new laws have been passed stopping abortion after 20 weeks because of the child’s ability to feel pain. And that’s great news.

Well, there’s an EMERGENCY VOTE being taken TOMORROW MORNING on a new bill that will PROHIBIT abortions after 20 weeks in our nation’s capital.

It’s H.R. 3803, the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, often referred to as the “D.C. late abortion ban” for short.

And I need you to contact your Representative and STRONGLY URGE him or her to Vote FOR H.R. 3803.

Most people still don’t know that abortion is currently legal for ANY reason through ALL NINE MONTHS of pregnancy.

An abortion facility not far from the White House now advertises dismemberment (“D&E”) abortions on request, to 26 weeks of pregnancy — the beginning of the 7th month! There is nothing to stop abortionists from performing abortions even closer to birth — for a price.

What a disgrace to our nation!!! (And this is why Priests for Life is putting a lot of energy into raising awareness about dismemberment abortion! Educating people on this is one of our key projects.)

That’s why I’m happy to report that Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ) has authored a bill that is now coming up for a vote on a “fast track” procedure that’s happening TOMORROW – JULY 31ST!

In the bill, Congress adopts findings that by 20 weeks after fertilization (if not earlier), the unborn child has the capacity to experience GREAT PAIN. The bill then prohibits abortion in the federal District after that point (the beginning of the sixth month).

This is the bill for which our Priests for Life team recently walked the halls of Congress, with some of our priests and Dr Alveda King. We were able to increase the number of co-sponsors of this legislation. And I want to thank our colleagues at National Right to Life for crafting this bill and lobbying for it so effectively!

And now, because of tomorrow’s vote, every member of the U.S. House of Representatives will have to go on record on whether abortion should be legal for any reason to the moment of birth.

Therefore…

If we can achieve a big majority on this groundbreaking initial vote, it will set the foundation to win legal protection for pain-capable unborn children in the not-distant future.

The pro-abortion fanatics are UP IN ARMS about this bill – because they know it could erode the entire “framework” of Roe v. Wade.

Listen: Babies are being BRUTALLY DISMEMBERED far past the point that they are capable of experiencing excruciating pain!!!
Congress and President Obama need to STOP this brutality by enacting the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, H.R. 3803, which would ban abortion after 20 weeks fetal age.

YOU MUST ACT NOW!

I apologize for the late notice on this… but this bill is coming up for a vote IMMEDIATELY!

As in TOMORROW MORNING!!!

That’s why I urgently need you to drop EVERYTHING you’re doing right now and CONTACT YOUR CONGRESSMAN as quickly as you can—telling him or her to VOTE “YES” ON H.R. 3803 – the “D.C. Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” (or “DC Late Abortion Ban” for short).

Think about it: if H.R. 3803 passes…

WE COULD PUT THE LEGAL “NAIL IN THE COFFIN”OUT OF ROE v WADE!

So please… contact your local Congressman IMMEDIATELY.

And since the vote is TOMORROW, there’s ONLY TIME FOR E-MAILS or TELEPHONE CALLS.

If you don’t know who your current Congressman is or how to call him/her, there are several convenient ways to easily find out.

#1.) You can go right now to http://www.house.gov/ and enter your ZIP code and street address, and the web site will tell you who your Member of Congress is and what his/her office phone numbers are.

#2.) Look up your Congressman in your local phone book in the “Government” pages. Even calling the local office is better than nothing! The local office will call the Washington office and let them know they’re getting flooded with calls urging a YES vote on H.R. 3803…!

#3.) Or, call your local City Hall, the library, or your main newspaper and they can give you the Congressman’s contact information.

But no matter what it takes, DROP WHAT YOU’RE DOING and get your voice heard RIGHT NOW!

That’s because the vote on H.R. 3803 comes up on the floor of Congress TOMORROW MORNING

And We Can’t Afford To Be Even A MINUTE LATE On This!

Yes, it’s THAT urgent. (I wouldn’t pester you like this if it weren’t.)

Incidentally, they took us completely by surprise by sending this bill to the floor for a vote with virtually NO notice… because certain powers DON’T want this bill passed!

If you merely contemplate WHAT KIND OF PAIN AN UNBORN BABY MUST FEEL…

…WHEN HER ARMS AND LEGS ARE TORN OFF, AND HER HEAD IS CRUSHED…

… you’ll want to contact EVERY Member of Congress and MAKE SURE they ALL vote “YES” on H.R. 3803…!

Let them know that we’ll be closely watching their vote—ESPECIALLY since they’re all coming up for RE-ELECTION this November.

And what kind of a Congressman wants to be known as voting to keep LATE-TERM ABORTION (for PAIN-CAPABLE babies) LEGAL???

This could be “the last straw” for millions of Americans who rightly detest late-term abortions because these acts of murder are so UNSPEAKABLE.

And with your help, dear reader, we can get H.R. 3803 approved when it gets voted on TOMORROW! (Wednesday, July 31st).

Hopefully you’ll read this e-mail in time!

But to achieve this timely victory…

YOU MUST ACT NOW!

Thank you, in advance, for your willingness to let your voice be heard.

God bless you!

Sincerely,

Fr. Frank Pavone

P.S. To help Priests for Life continue all our work to defend the sanctity of life at all stages—especially the defenseless unborn babies who are brutally and ruthlessly slaughtered EVERY DAY in our nation—we ask that you please remember us in all your prayers and all your intentions.

In addition, I ask that you also take a moment to show us your support by making a small donation—quickly and easily—by clicking here.

It is only with your prayers and financial assistance that we can carry on our fight against the government-funded, media-backed, entrenched killing machine known as The Abortion Cartel—which is right now throwing everything they’ve got into the halls of Congress to stop H.R. 3803 from outlawing their lucrative LATE-TERM abortion business in Washington, D.C.

The Abortion Cartel knows full well that they stand to LOSE EVERYTHING if H.R. 3803 passes in the House of Representatives—less than 24 hours from now, as I write this.

Therefore, please CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVE in Congress. PRAY that we achieve a miraculous victory for God and the babies. And SHARE this e-mail with everyone on your e-mail list right now, while you’re sitting at your computer.

Every time a Congressman hears from the voters, he’s hearing from THE BABIES.

Please… BE THEIR VOICE.

Take this life-saving action NOW.

Priests for Life and Fr. Pavone declare “Beginning of the End” of the HHS Mandate

Monday, July 30th, 2012

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, released the following statement today regarding the preliminary injunction issued in a lawsuit filed by a private company against the Health and Human Services contraception mandate. The ruling marks the first legal victory over the mandate.

“This decision marks the beginning of the end of the unjust and unconstitutional HHS mandate. Even though the Aug. 1 deadline for compliance is still in effect for organizations like Priests for Life, it’s good news that the suit filed by the owners of Hercules Industries has been successful in holding off, at least temporarily, this mandate that is so clearly a violation of the religious freedom guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and the laws of our country. This gives us reason to be optimistic as our own lawsuit progresses.

“But no matter what happens, there is no way we will comply with a law that calls for us to violate our consciences by paying for contraception, abortifacient drugs and sterilization services.”

In Newland vs. Sebelius, the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado ruled on July 27 that the constitutional and statutory rights of the plaintiffs – siblings who own a heating and air conditioning company – would be harmed by enforcement of the HHS mandate. Judge John L. Kane also found that Hercules likely would prevail in its claim that the mandate is a violation of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

In his ruling, the judge noted that Hercules’ owners, William Newland, Paul Newland, James Newland, and Christine Ketterhagen, run their company according to Catholic principles and teachings, even when those religious, ethical and moral teachings impact their profits.

Fr. Pavone added, “Priests for Life is proud to be in the company of the Newlands and so many others who are not willing to set aside their deeply held beliefs, or their legal rights, even when threatened with economic catastrophe. We are confident that our lawsuit, filed Feb. 15, will protect us from the imposition of more than $1 million a year in fines.

“In addition to pressing on with our legal action, Priests for Life will also help once again to organize nationwide rallies for religious freedom, to take place on Saturday, October 20.”

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Monday, July 30th, 2012

This reflection is taken from my book Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“None of us lives for himself, and none of us dies for himself. If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, if we live or die, we are the Lord’s” (Rom. 14:7-8).

Reflection: There are two basic truths that each person has to admit in this life: 1. There is a God. 2. It isn’t me. To understand these lessons is to understand why evils like contraception, abortion, and euthanasia are wrong. Only God has absolute dominion over human life and over its coming and going.

Prayer: In life and death, O Lord, abide with me. I am yours. Amen.

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

This reflection is taken from my book Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“A priest happened to be traveling along that same road, but when he saw him he passed by on the other side” (Luke 10:31).

Reflection: Perhaps the priest and Levite walked by the victim on the roadside because they thought the robbers were around the corner waiting to attack them. They asked, “If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?” The Samaritan reversed the question and asked, “If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?”

Prayer: Lord, may I stop calculating the risk to myself, and instead ask what will happen to the vulnerable if I don’t help them.

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Saturday, July 28th, 2012

This reflection is taken from my book Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“The human person, unlike animals and things, cannot be subjected to domination by others” (John Paul II, The Gospel of Life, 19).

Reflection: If representatives of the Church abuse children, the State steps in. The Church likewise has a duty to intervene when state allows children to be killed by abortion. America is proud of its freedom of religion, and equally proud of its protection of human rights. The two can go together, as long as “separation of Church and state” never means that either one looks the other way when human rights is violated.

Prayer: Lord, may both Church and State be faithful in their duty to protect human rights. Amen.

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Friday, July 27th, 2012

This reflection is taken from my book Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“I have come to call not the righteous but sinners” (Mark 2:17).

Reflection: Some abortion supporters seek “common ground” with pro-lifers. How do we respond? Jesus Christ ate and talked with sinners, and yet also warned them strongly to repent of their sins. There is no common ground between life and death, yet to talk with those who disagree conveys to them that we respect their lives, too. There is no room for compromise about abortion, but there must always be room to talk to people about it.

Prayer: Lord, teach us the wisdom of dialogue that does not compromise, and of respect that does not equate evil with good. Amen.
