Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Saturday, May 31st, 2014

This reflection is taken from my book, Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“Mary set out and journeyed in haste into the hill country…Mary remained with Elizabeth for about three months” – Luke 1:39, 56.

Reflection: After Mary was told she would be the mother of God, the truth of her new status did not distract her from Elizabeth’s needs. Real encounters with God do not turn us into ourselves, but rather make us more responsive to the needs of others. Religion does not keep us within the walls of our churches; rather, we serve the needs of those whose lives and rights are in danger.

Prayer: Lord, may we learn from what Mary did. Send us to help mothers and children in need. Amen!

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Friday, May 30th, 2014

This reflection is taken from my book, Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“To hinder a birth is merely a speedier man-killing; nor does it matter whether you take away a life that is born, or destroy one that is coming to the birth. That is a man which is going to be one; you have the fruit already in the seed” (Tertullian, 3rd century).

Reflection: The Lord’s dominion over life, and over the whole process of its coming and going, is the basis for our pro-life convictions. To say “No” to life at any stage of its development is to say “No” to God himself.

Prayer: Lord, may we rejoice in your faithful care for life from its earliest stages. Amen!

Fr. Frank Pavone Praises Governor Fallin and Oklahoma Legislature for Law on Abortion Patient Protection

Thursday, May 29th, 2014

Staten Island, NY – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today praised Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin for signing into law a bill that says abortionists must have local hospital admitting privileges and abortion clinics must have equipment to handle medical emergencies.

“I remember singing in the choir in grammar school, ‘You’re doing fine, Oklahoma! Oklahoma, OK!!’ Today I am singing this again, because Governor Fallin and the Oklahoma legislature are to be commended for placing the safety of women above the profits of abortionists. This legislation ensures that a woman will receive immediate treatment in the event of a medical emergency during or after an abortion and will have continuity of care if she needs to go to a hospital,” said Fr. Pavone.  “One would think that goes without saying in America, but in America’s abortion industry, it doesn’t.”

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Thursday, May 29th, 2014

This reflection is taken from my book, Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life …” (Deuteronomy 30:19).

Reflection: The early First Century document called the “Teaching of the Twelve Apostles” begins by saying, “There are two ways, one of life and the other of death, and great is the difference between the two.” It states, “Do not murder a child by abortion or kill a newborn infant.” Throughout the centuries, this teaching has been consistent.

Prayer: Lord, you have revealed the road of happiness to us and to our world. Keep us, in our laws and in our culture, on the path of life. Amen.

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Wednesday, May 28th, 2014

This reflection is taken from my book, Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“Before the foundation of the world he chose us…” (Ephesians 1:4)

Reflection: God’s choice always comes before ours. We could not choose to be created, because we were not there to do the choosing. From all eternity, he took the initiative to make us and to save us. Our choices are secondary, and are carried out in the context of his choice to give life and love.

Prayer: Father, thank you for choosing us, freely and without any merit of our own. Thank you also for the gift of our own free will. Protect it from corruption; may we always choose in you and for you. Amen.

Spreading the truth that #Abortion has nothing to do with #WomensHealth

Wednesday, May 28th, 2014

NEW YORK, NY — Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries is firing on all cylinders today as it takes part in a Twitterstorm on women’s health and abortion in developing countries.

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, is sending out Tweets from his account, @frfrankpavone, as are members of the Pastoral Team, including Youth Outreach Director Bryan Kemper, @bryankemper, and Dr. Alveda King, Director of African-American Outreach, @alvedaking. Janet Morana, executive director, is sending Tweets from @recallabortion and @regretabortion.

Through her work at the United Nations as PFL’s Special Representative, Marie Smith, director of the Parliamentary Network for Critical Issues, part of Gospel of Life Ministries, learned that today, #May28, a coalition of pro-abortion groups would take to Twitter to promote abortion as essential healthcare for women and for its inclusion in the next set of goals being created at the United Nations.   Mrs. Smith brought the event to Kemper’s attention last week. Since then, he and Andy Moore, director of online communications for Americans United for Life, have been publicizing the event across the social media universe.

“Pro-life Tweeters gave a major push back to the global promotion of abortion as part of women’s health as pro-abortion activists marked May 28 as the International Day of Action for Women’s Health,” Mrs. Smith said. “May 28 was supposed to be a day when a cacophony of pro-abortion organizations and radical feminist groups came together to advance global access to abortion, but their plans was interrupted.”

Kemper commented:  “Once again the pro-life generation has risen up and taken over the Twittersphere as we have dominated #womenshealth by as much as 15 to 1 during the pro-abort Tweetfest. The youth are always called the leaders of the future but they are showing they are the leaders of today by flooding Twitter with the truth that abortion is not #womenshealth. Stand True, the youth outreach of Priests for Life is dedicated to educating, activating and equipping this generation and we are excited to see today’s successful takeover of the pro-abortion Tweetfest.”

“We really can’t underestimate the value of this kind of social engagement,” said Father Pavone. “We are directly reaching people all over the globe with important, informative messages about how abortion is not healthcare in any circumstance. To have such a global audience is exciting for us.”

Priests for Life is the nation’s largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia. For more information, visit www.priestsforlife.org.

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014

This reflection is taken from my book, Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“When a prayer or plea is made by any of your people…each on aware of his afflictions and pain…then hear from heaven…” 2 Chronicles 6:29-30

Reflection: Bertrand Russell once wrote, “A fisherman once told me that fish have neither sense nor sensation, but how he knew this, he could not tell me.” A practicing abortionist once told me that unborn children could feel no pain — but how he know this, he could not tell me either. Research now suggests that babies in the womb feel pain much earlier than we thought.

Prayer: Lord, may the pain of these children awaken the consciences of your people, that the killing may end. Amen.

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Monday, May 26th, 2014

This reflection is taken from my book, Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“We need first of all to foster…a contemplative outlook [which] arises from faith in the God of life, who has created every individual as a ‘wonder’” – The Gospel of Life, 83.

Reflection: There are two ways to look at a tree: we can calculate the value of the lumber, or we can be moved by the beauty of the branches. Both views have their place, but our culture has gone overboard in calculating usefulness, to the detriment of reverence. This is especially dangerous when we look at human lives for their productivity rather than their dignity.

Prayer: Lord, fill us with wonder as we contemplate human life and all your creation. Amen.

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Sunday, May 25th, 2014

This reflection is taken from my book, Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“He will not speak on his own authority, but he will speak what he hears…for he will take what is mine and communicate it to you.” – Jn. 16:13-14

Reflection: The Holy Spirit is God, and all he says to us is consistent with what the Father and the Son have revealed. “The Holy Spirit…will…remind you of all that I told you” (Jn.14:26). No disciple can claim the “freedom of the Spirit” to contradict the commandments, including that which forbids the killing of the innocent.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of all people, that they may not believe any new or false gospels that justify the Culture of Death. Amen.

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Saturday, May 24th, 2014

This reflection is taken from my book, Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her” – Proverbs 31:28.

Reflection: The early feminist leader Sara Norton said, “Perhaps there will come a time when the right of the unborn to be born will not be denied or interfered with.” Authentic feminism is pro-life, because it takes seriously the message of equality – and that includes children.

Prayer: Lord, you have exalted the vocation of motherhood with honor and dignity. May all mothers see that their happiness lies in giving themselves away in love to their family and to You! Amen!
