This weekend we conclude the liturgical year, and begin a new one with the Season of Advent.
The word “Advent” means “coming,” and the season focuses on the coming of Christ at the end of time, and then on the meaning of His first coming at Christmas. Advent is marked by the joy of His coming, but also by the strong warning that we must be prepared for it, as individuals and as a community. The Lord who comes is the source of all justice and the giver of our human rights. Promoting justice and human rights, therefore, is a key element of our preparation. A society that aborts its children is not prepared for the coming of Christ. Let this Advent renew our pro-life commitment.
