Every Unborn Child Deserves a Chance

Wednesday, July 18th, 2012

When an unborn child is diagnosed with a terminal illness, some feel justified in aborting the child. The excuse they use is that he or she “will die anyway.” But we will all die anyway. Since when does our mortality make us disposable? Since when is the inevitability of death a justification to kill?

The value of life is not measured in hours, days, or years. Rather, the presence of human life, especially when it is frail or dying, summons us to respond with love. We are called to help the parents of unborn children who are terminally ill to love and care for those children during their short lives. There is even a hospice program for unborn children. Let us give these children all the love they deserve.

Priests for Life Welcomes Day of Life Celebration; Pilgrimage to Rome Planned

Thursday, June 21st, 2012

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Priests for Life will lead a pilgrimage to Rome in 2013 to help celebrate “The Year of Faith.” The group will be at the Vatican on June 16, which the Vatican has announced will be a day dedicated to the Gospel of Life. Special events in the presence of Pope Benedict XVI are planned on that special day.

“This initiative of the Vatican is an exciting development which will give believers around the world the opportunity to express, in union with the Holy Father, that our proclamation of the Faith cannot be credible without a vigorous defense of human life,” said Father  Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life. “The Faith tells us that our destiny is to be on the throne with Christ (cf. Rev. 3:21). We cannot persuasively offer this promise while ignoring those who are thrown in the garbage.”

The June 11-18 pilgrimage will be led by Father Pavone, along with Janet Morana, executive director of Priests for Life; Catholic author and journalist Teresa Tomeo, and Catholic tour guide leader Steve Ray.

“Priests for Life invites all who are committed to the cause of life to join us on our 2013 pilgrimage to Rome. We also will advocate that this day of life be an observance of the Church each and every year,” Fr. Pavone stated.

Anyone who would like to be part of the pilgrimage is asked to go to www.priestsforlife.org/pilgrimage/index.aspx

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

This reflection is taken from my book Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“Gaze upon the birds…Are you not of far greater value than they?” (Matthew 6:26).

Reflection: Jesus makes it clear that human life is worth more than other creatures. In Florida you can see signs on the beach that say, “Do not touch the sea turtles or their eggs. They are protected by local, state, and federal law.” If we do not have the right to choose to smash the egg of a sea turtle, why do we have the right to choose to smash a baby?

Prayer: Lord, we worship you as the source of everything that is. Teach us to value creation, and to value humanity even more. Amen.

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Monday, June 18th, 2012

This reflection is taken from my book Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“If only my anguish could be weighed…It would surely outweigh the sand of the seas” (Job 6:2-3).

Reflection: Those who have had abortions are more likely to be tempted to suicide. The mother may see death as the only way of being reunited with her child, and escaping the daily pain that the abortion brings. “I deprived my child of life,” she thinks, “and therefore I don’t deserve my own.”

Prayer: Lord, you are the God who overcomes despair, and whose mighty hand keeps us on the right path. Send your Spirit upon all who are tempted to suicide, and refresh them with new hope. Amen.

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Sunday, June 17th, 2012

This reflection is taken from my book Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“For You created all things; by Your will they were created” (Revelation 4:11).

Reflection: Cloning advocates make a misleading distinction between “reproductive” cloning — that is, actually bringing clones to birth — and “therapeutic cloning” — that is, using the clone’s cells, but killing the clone before he or she is born. In reality, all cloning is reproductive, because the unborn clone is human, and no cloning is therapeutic, because no medical benefit has been demonstrated.

Prayer: Father, you alone can create human life, and you have created it for yourself. Preserve us from the temptation of trying to do what you alone can do. Amen.

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Friday, June 15th, 2012

This reflection is taken from my book Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the world” Matthew 28:20.

Reflection: Abortion leads to isolation, despair, and a feeling of being abandoned by everyone. The Church, on the other hand, brings the assurance of Jesus: “I am with you.” The People of God, while rejecting abortion, embrace with love those who have had abortions, and lead them to the healing mercy of Christ.

Prayer: Lord, I pray for every person who feels alone and abandoned today, in the dark shadows of the abortion they have committed. Reach into that darkness, and enable your people to bring the light of Jesus’ presence to wounded hearts. Amen.

Today’s Pro-Life Reflection

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

This reflection is taken from my book Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org

“They maintain the appearance of godliness but deny its power…” (2 Timothy 3:5).

Reflection: Abortion supporters used to call it a decision between a woman and her doctor. Now they say it’s a decision between a woman and her God. They have run out of arguments to defend abortion, so they simply appeal to God as a way to shut down all argument. Meanwhile, pro-lifers have both the arguments and the God who is their foundation.

Prayer: Lord, preserve us from the misfortune of turning to you without seeking you, and from the deception of invoking you without listening to you. Amen.

The Spirit of Truth

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. His gifts enable us to understand created realities, their value, and their relationship to the Creator and to our happiness. We should ask the Holy Spirit to give us an understanding of the value of the human person. The Spirit enables us to cry out, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself gives witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

Abortion, on the other hand, sees the human person as a disposable object. The Spirit of Truth likewise shows us the truth about our sins. In Him we come to understand the difference between good and evil. This works directly against the dynamics of the abortion movement, which identifies a moral evil as a “right.” “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil.”

Join Us This Week in Prayer

Monday, May 21st, 2012

Pro-life people around the world are invited to join us this week in saying a special Novena to the Holy Spirit, Lord and Giver of Life. You can view the prayer and sign up to participate on our web site.

The period of time between the Ascension and Pentecost was the original novena, when the disciples prayed at Jesus’ instruction that they would be clothed with power from on high.

That Holy Spirit, the Advocate, made them bold advocates for the Gospel. The same boldness is needed by us as we announce the sanctity of life and denounce the many attacks on life, beginning with abortion and euthanasia.

Let us pray in this novena that He will make us bold advocates for the unborn and all the vulnerable.
