When an unborn child is diagnosed with a terminal illness, some feel justified in aborting the child. The excuse they use is that he or she “will die anyway.” But we will all die anyway. Since when does our mortality make us disposable? Since when is the inevitability of death a justification to kill?
The value of life is not measured in hours, days, or years. Rather, the presence of human life, especially when it is frail or dying, summons us to respond with love. We are called to help the parents of unborn children who are terminally ill to love and care for those children during their short lives. There is even a hospice program for unborn children. Let us give these children all the love they deserve.
