Join Us in Being Silent No More

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

At the March for Life in Washington, D.C., women who have had abortions lead the way. As they march they carry signs that say “I Regret My Abortion.” This Silent No More Awareness Campaign brings to the March a renewed emphasis on the fact that the pro-abortion movement is wrong, not only when they deny the humanity of the child, but also when they claim that abortion helps the mother. Then, in the late afternoon, these mothers gather at the steps of the Supreme Court, and share their testimonies one by one. Fathers of aborted babies are also there, with signs that say “I Regret Lost Fatherhood.” If you have lost a child to abortion, we want to hear from you. Visit silentnomoreawareness.org and join our efforts.

Silent No More Awareness Campaign Launches New Web Site

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

The Silent No More Awareness Campaign today unveiled a new home page designed to make its three-fold mission immediately understandable and accessible.

The top of the page at SilentNoMoreAwareness.org features buttons for women who are pregnant and need help, for those who are suffering from the pain of a past abortion and need healing, and for those who want to become more involved in reaching out to pregnant women and post-abortive mothers and fathers.

“When we launched our first site in 2003, we wanted to make sure it had all the information we wanted to get out,” said Georgette Forney, co-founder of Silent No More and president of Anglicans for Life. “The new site makes sure we are reaching all the people we want to share that information with. The connection with those we’re trying to reach is more obvious.”

Janet Morana, co-founder of Silent No More and executive director of Priests for Life, said the updated look of the new site helps make it much more user-friendly.

“It allows visitors to clearly and quickly get to wherever they want to go,” Mrs. Morana said.

The testimonies of women and men who regret their past abortions have always been a popular draw for site visitors, and are still readily accessible. A new “Featured Story of the Day,” brings visitors to the testimony section, which also can be accessed from the “Stories” button at the top of the page.

“The voices of the men and women who have had abortions, and have come to regret them, are the most powerful weapons we have in our fight to end abortion,” said Father Pavone, pastoral director of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign.

Proof of the Silent No More web site’s power came with a phone call to the campaign office the day before New Year’s Eve. Mrs. Forney answered a call from a mother of three who said she had an appointment to abort her fourth child the following day. After reading some of the testimonies, she realized “She didn’t want to have the regret these women suffer from. And she was concerned that, although she is always able to forgive others, she might not ever be able to forgive herself.”

By the end of their conversation, the woman realized she didn’t need to “depend on abortion” to solve the challenges the unplanned pregnancy presented. She told Mrs. Forney she was canceling her appointment.

“As we unveil this web site, we invite all groups and Churches to use it as a key resource for help after abortion and for strength to those who might otherwise make that mistake,” Father Pavone said.

Visit the new site at SilentNoMoreAwareness.org. To reach the office by phone, call 1-800-707-6635 or 1-888-735-3448.

What Else Is There to Say?

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

On April 18, 2007 the United States Supreme Court upheld the ban on partial-birth abortion.  In that decision, Gonzales v. Carhart, the court described another abortion procedure that remains legal throughout America.  It is called the D & E procedure.  Here are the exact words of the Supreme Court:

“The doctor grips a fetal part with the forceps and pulls it back through the cervix…, continuing to pull even after meeting resistance from the cervix.  The friction causes the fetus to tear apart.  For example, a leg might be ripped off the fetus as it is pulled through the cervix and out of the woman. The process of evacuating the fetus piece by piece continues until it has been completely removed.”

What more needs to be said to convince us to act?

The gruesome truth about D and E abortions

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

The debate in America about partial-birth abortion did a lot to shift public opinion in a pro-life direction, because it focused attention on what actually happens to the baby during an abortion – and what happens is not pleasant. That procedure was banned. But the D and E procedure is one among those that remain legal. In a D and E, the baby, while alive, is dismembered limb from limb. Medical textbooks and sworn court testimony describe how the abortionist pulls off the arms and legs and crushes the head. Above and beyond any thoughts they have about abortion in the abstract, it’s time to ask our fellow citizens what they think about D and E. Many who call themselves pro choice nevertheless oppose this procedure. Find out more at www.priestsforlife.org

Fr. Pavone: ‘Voices from the Womb’ will change hearts and minds

Monday, October 17th, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement about “Voices from the Womb,” a project that gave federal lawmakers an opportunity to see babies in the womb via ultrasound.

Fr. Frank said, “The ground-breaking project called ‘Voices From the Womb,’ which brought live ultrasound to the U.S. Capitol Thursday, was a stroke of brilliance that will now be repeated across the nation. It should be required viewing for lawmakers in every state that has yet to pass a bill ensuring that a mother has an ultrasound before aborting her child.

“Abortion supporters claim these laws don’t respect the woman’s ability to make informed choices,” Father Frank continued. “But on the contrary, they precisely enhance that ability, by helping her see what she often finds out too late, that the baby is far more developed than her abortionist admits.”

Father Pavone applauded the National Pro-Life Center for organizing “Voices from the Womb,” together with the Stanton Project, the Christian Defense Coalition and the Knights of Columbus, which supported the project financially.

“When pro-life groups work together, we can change hearts and minds, and laws,” he said.

Advancing Truth Through Testimony

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

The Christian Faith advances through testimony. Jesus gives testimony to the Father; the Apostles give testimony to the Resurrection; Paul gives testimony to his conversion; Augustine gives testimony in his Confessions; you and I give and receive the testimony of how Jesus changes the lives He enters. That is why the Silent No More Awareness Campaign is so powerful and necessary. Men and women wounded by abortion and then healed are speaking out about the lie of abortion and the power of Jesus. They are giving testimony to why life must be protected. The power of their testimony is calling many to repentance and healing. If you feel called to give a testimony about your abortion, or know someone else who does, contact us at silentnomoreawareness.org.

Life is of Inestimable Value

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

In the thirteenth chapter of Ezekiel, we read these words, which the Lord told Ezekiel to speak to the people: “Will you ensnare the lives of my people but preserve your own? You have profaned me among my people for a few handfuls of barley and scraps of bread. By lying to my people, who listen to lies, you have killed those who should not have died.” The ongoing tragedy of abortion is an example of how lies kill those who should not have died, and the most fundamental lie behind abortion is not that the fetus isn’t a baby – rather, the lie is that one has a right to kill that baby. The lie is that a few handfuls of barley – that is, economic reasons – can be balanced against the value of a life.

Experience Trumps Rhetoric

Monday, October 10th, 2011

Do you know someone who has been hurt by abortion, and who wants to do something to keep others from experiencing the same pain?

If so, please tell them about the Silent No More Awareness Campaign.

Coordinated by Priests for Life and Anglicans for Life, this campaign gives women and men an opportunity to share with others the fact that abortion hurt them. We hold healing services and public educational events. Participants hold signs saying “I regret my abortion” or “I regret lost fatherhood.”

The campaign gives them a loving and confidential network of others who have been through the same pain, and have found healing in Jesus Christ. The effort is interdenominational. Find out more information at our website: silentnomoreawareness.org

Steven Tyler’s Ex-Fiancée will be Silent No More about her Abortion

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

For 36 years she has kept quiet about her relationship with the rock star Steven Tyler and the abortion he talked her into in 1975, but Julia Holcomb will be Silent No More.

Janet Morana and Georgette Forney, co-founders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, have announced that Ms. Holcomb has joined the Campaign that gives women and men a platform to speak about the way abortion has harmed them and millions of others just like them, and to let those who are still suffering in silence know that healing and redemption is possible.

Ms. Holcomb’s incredible story is proof of that.

Now a married mother of six sons, Ms. Holcomb is setting the record straight about her relationship with the Aerosmith frontman. “I had decided I would never talk about Steven, but he continues to talk about me, including in his two books,” Ms. Holcomb said. “I decided it was time for me to tell the truth about our relationship.”

An interview with Ms. Holcomb, taped last month during her visit to Priests for Life headquarters in New York, can be seen at silentnomoreawareness.org/ and priestsforlife.org.

LifeSiteNews has its own video interview with Ms. Holcomb, which can be seen at lifesitenews.com

Ms. Holcomb and her husband contacted Kevin Burke, co-founder of Rachel’s Vineyard, after she read an article Burke wrote for National Review about the regret Tyler has expressed about the abortion.(www.priestsforlife.org/articles/3633-post-abortion-trauma). She then wrote her own story, which was published in May by LifeSite News. (www.priestsforlife.org/testimonies/2155-The-Light-of-the-World—the-Steven-Tyler-and-Julia-Holcomb-story)

“Julia’s story is an incredibly powerful witness to the healing available to everyone who has been wounded by abortion,” Burke said. “She escaped from a place of darkness and emerged whole, strong and ready to fight for women and men who are still struggling to find the light.”

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life and Pastoral Director of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, said he hopes Ms. Holcomb’s courage and commitment to life will urge other women and men hurting in the aftermath of abortion to seek healing.

“So many are suffering in the very same way that Julia Holcomb suffered,” he said. “Our task is to let them know that the healing can begin now.”

Since the launch of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in 2003, 4,845 women and men have shared their testimonies publicly at over 865 gatherings in 48 states and 10 countries where more than 110,830 attendees have heard the truth about abortion’s negative aftereffects. More than 10,100 people representing 57 countries are registered to be Silent No More. Raising awareness about the hurtful aftermath of abortion and the help that is available to cope with the pain are two of the Campaign’s goals. The Campaign has over 1,300 testimonies posted here, with over 120 that are shared via video! The Silent No More Awareness Campaign is a joint project of Anglicans for Life and Priests for Life. Plus Nine Campaign

Monday, September 12th, 2011

On the island of Malta, where unborn children are still protected, there is a campaign called “plus nine.” The idea is to make people aware that their unique and individual lives began not on the day of their birth but on the day they were conceived. That is the day they began to exist. Through this effort, the plus sign, and the number 9, are placed in as many places as possible, to make people think of this simple, powerful concept, which is based not simply on religious belief, but on biological fact. Some observe this fact by celebrating not only their birthday, but their “FirstDay,” nine months earlier. Indeed, the children in the womb are real people. Through simple efforts like “plus nine,” we can help people realize that it is wrong to kill them.
