Gathered for their monthly meeting, the Pastoral Team and staff of Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries assisted at a Mass yesterday on the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary. The Mass, offered by Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of both ministries, was for the repose of the soul of Miss Nellie Gray, who passed away a few days ago and who provide leadership for almost four decades of the annual March for Life.
In his homily on August 15, 2012 (see video orhear audio), as well as in an opinion piece published today by USA Today, Fr. Frank reflected on Nellie’s life and mission. He pointed out that she drew her inspiration to defend the unborn after she was deeply disturbed by the Nazi Holocaust and stirred by the lesson of the Nuremburg Trials. Fr. Frank explains the basis for her “No Exceptions, No Compromise” stance, and shares insights drawn from his final conversations with her about the direction she wanted the March, and the pro-life movement in general, to go in the months and years ahead.
