Pelosi Admits Her Position is Not Catholic – Former House Speaker Attacks Priests for Life and Fr. Frank Pavone

Nancy-PelosiSTATEN ISLAND, NY – Rather than answer the simple question as to what is the moral difference between killing a baby outside the womb or inside the womb,  House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has criticized Priests for Life, and its National Director, Fr. Frank Pavone, for raising the issue in an open letter, calling them arrogant, medieval, hysterical, and disconnected from the Church.

Fr. Pavone said: “I would like to know if Mrs. Pelosi, in her charges that we are arrogant, medieval, and hysterical, intends to include the more than 14,000 people (and counting) who signed onto my open letter to her in just the past few days. Rather than resorting to name-calling, she should answer the question all of us have raised. In refusing to answer this question, and instead choosing to criticize the messenger and then assert her own version of Catholicism, Mrs. Pelosi repeats the same display of avoidance and inconsistency as she exhibited at the June 13 press briefing that prompted my letter in the first place. Continuing to support dismemberment abortion, and refusing to explain its distinction from murder, she has disconnected herself from both faith and reason. Priests for Life will not allow this to go unchallenged.”

As for her assertion that she might pay attention to a more intellectual letter, Fr. Pavone responded: “The beginning of an intellectual approach to this discussion is to answer the simple question that started the discussion. Mrs. Pelosi refuses to take that first step.”

popeFr. Pavone’s open letter, at LetterToNancy.com, continues to receive thousands of adherents each day from across the country.

In her interview with ThinkProgress earlier this week, Mrs. Pelosi said, “I grant the Church where they are on abortion. That’s where they are, that’s where they have to be. But my faith isn’t about what their position is.”

Fr. Pavone responded: “The beautiful thing about Catholic Faith is that it is not some kind of mysterious knowledge available only to elites or to the person holding it. Rather, it can be plainly understood by prince and pauper, young and old, educated and illiterate. We can all recognize when it is embraced and when it is rejected. Mrs. Pelosi has clearly rejected it, stating again that her faith is not what the Church teaches.

“We don’t need to consult the Catechism to know that terrorism is wrong – reason makes this plain,” added Fr. Pavone.  “And yet, those who flew airplanes into our buildings were, all the while, professing their faith. You also don’t need to know theology or be a priest to conclude that tearing a baby apart limb by limb is wrong – reason likewise makes this clear.  Yet, Nancy Pelosi has done it again – she’s trying to use faith talk to escape what both reason and Catholicism teach about abortion,  and to escape answering the simple question, ‘What is the moral difference between killing a premature newborn and aborting a baby?’”

    Father Pavone,

Please do not let up here, because all of the politicians that have been ignoring their consciences too long need a wake up call. They may still win the next election cycle, but the final election cycle of eternal life in Heaven is so much more important…Right? The road to destruction is wide, the path to life is constricted. Let us pray that they are converted and all of us in this great country are converted before it is too late…Follow your conscience, and if it doesn’t recognize abortion as a problem, work on forming your conscience, by going to confession…God bless you and keep up the good work!

    Fr. Frank,
Thank you so much for speaking out to Nancy Pelosi. You were speaking out on behalf of so many of us that would love to say the same thing to her, but don’t have the great opportunity you have. So, thank you.

Also, thank you on behalf of all babies that are being butchered daily, by these types of uncivilized attitudes of people in our country. It is so heartbreaking everyday to know a baby must die “so some women and some men can choose to live as they want to live!! ” … Your voice is will bring justice one day, for these precious lives that are being torn apart as these evil actions take place. While it may not change her mind immediately, it is still important that these things be spoken to her clearly so hopefully one day she will “see the truth of her errors” and repent, and change her ways for her own soul sake. As well as for the sake of the precious unborn.

I stand with you in what you said to her. I only wish other priests and bishops would speak out too more clearly and publicly. I pray with you that in our lifetime, we will be blessed to see Justice prevail, and God’s mercy win on the issue of abortion and that babies will begin to be saved instead of murdered. God save our nation, if this doesn’t change!!

Thank you again. You are a light to our nation, and world, and hope for the hopeless…the unborn. Keep up the great work. Know of our daily prayers for your strength and courage as you battle this evil fight. We battle in prayer with you too.

God bless and keep you. May God change Nancy Pelosi’s heart and all the people that think like her, for the sake of their souls, as well as for the sake of the Sorrowful Passion of Jesus and for all unborn babies….

God bless you Fr. Frank, and Shalom,

    Sharon Stiles

Love it and I love you Father for being a man. A man of God and a man who can say what needs to be said. Your vocalness on this has given me strength! I was able to advise my ‘cafeteria’ Catholic sister that her stance is wrong. Just like Pope Francis says, sometimes we have to be annoying with pur faith. However, your eloquent attempt towards Nancy is far from annoying to us who understand you but surely it is annoying to NANCY!! Hahahaa GOD have mercy!!

  4. Elisabeth McDonald says:

Your letter was great. However, it’s what the Bishops should have done and should continue to do, or our nation would not be in the condition it is today. Biden, Pelosi and more – those of us out here in everyday land see it as plainly as you have stated reason enables us to see: the Bishops should denounce them as loudly as you have, and every priest who supports these politicians, and not allow them to receive the Eucharist. Period. Boom. Done. The Church would not be the laughing stock it is today, and there might be a different reality in politics and the law today.

I despise (not hate) people of double standards. I was born in Poland and I am proud of historical achievements of Polish people since Christianity become to that country. I am proud of Polish people defeating “Infidels” of Kara Mustafa in 1683 Vienna.
All people in this world have opinion but I suggest that ethical issues of abortion should be resolved by not Government officials but more connected institution closer to morality as Church. I was raised as Catholic but I am a person that lives and must be responsible for my actions. I think that whatever teaching of Church are there is only two people that have problem to resolve – man and women. We can express our opinions as outsiders Church, Politicians etc. but ultimate decision is up to individual. We cannot forbid that because whatever that decision is individual will face consequences.
Best method to “clean” church from people like Nancy Pelosi is to make her as an example and excommunicate her. You cannot have Catholics claiming to be one and creating controversy as to official position of Wholly Church. In my opinion, Church will have to adopt and reform also. I am strongly of opinion that priests should be allowed to marry to make harmony with God and not force for some to road to perversion. This is why many Catholics “rebel” by duplicity of church, time to reform and stop excusing Islam and proclaim it “religion of peace”. Condemn evil for what it is, by taking strong stance in Egypt, where Coptic Christians are dying, Nigeria, Somalia and exploitation of Muslims of welfare states in Europe Countries. I hope Pope Francis will be up to that task, Christianity is not killing people of different religions, Islam is and that is difference. Pelosi is torpedoing all what Christianity stand for peace and prosperity, and remember in today’s world we do not have capitalism. I believe in capitalism a social system based on individual rights! It is not exploitation of others I say today’s welfare state exploits more than any capitalist. Forty nine percent of people are living off rest of people paying taxes. It is immoral in my opinion. “Big business” is a big sucker of taxpayers’ money and Politicians as Pelosi is accepting “donations” from those usurpers on Wall Street. Capitalism is not evil, corruption is and our society is corrupted to the core. If I work hard for my money I have moral ground to keep it and not sponsor moochers or wars to build New World Order!

  6. Ann McLeese says:

Thank you ,thank you ,thank you for having the courage to say what needs to be said. The idea that we need to have a separate group called “Priests for life “is disturbing .It is time for the church to draw a line in the sand, to teach its’ sheep. Excommunicate those that identify themselves as catholic yet support the slaughter of the innocents .We have to wake these people up .We do them no service by saying or doing nothing, We must speak the truth to them. We are called to love our neighbour but without truth there is no love.

  7. Judy G says:

If anyone is arrogant it’s nasty Nancy Pelosi-
    she just doesn’t get it
    she has no Catholic Faith

  8. Alice Rosa says:

We continue to pray for the end of abortion, for you Fr. Frank, for Janet for Theresa and Kevin Burke and all pro-lifers like you who want to end abortion and help heal those who suffer from post-abortive issues. You continue the good fight against Nancy Pelosi and other catholics in name only. We the lay will do all that we can to wake up our fellow Christians including our own Archbishops and Bishops. God bless you and keep you.

  9. Dielli says:

We should pray for her and people like her who think the same, so that the Mercy of God may touch their hearts and produce true conversions.

  10. John McCallum says:

Thank you for calling out the evil that is being done to our unborn children. Maybe just maybe Ms. Pelosi will see her sin. May just maybe she will right the wrong she is doing.

Thank you for doing the job that your Bishops should have been doing. I ask the Lord the continue to bless and strengthen you in this ongoing fight.

  11. Debra says:

I am not Catholic, I am Protestant. But regardless, all that matters is that I am a Christian…a born again believer in Jesus Christ. Abortion is murder. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to conclude that the dismemberment of a living child within the womb of a human being is a vile, despicable act. I pray for you, Mrs. Pelosi. You are blind and are simply unable and unwilling to see.

  12. Tony says:

Thank you fr for speeking something that has been silent for too long. People, sececially polliticians, that openly discent from Catholic teaching and still claim to be Catholic Must be heald to the truth. When the church speeks on faith amd morals it is Christ speeking himself. People or polliticans in open opposition to the church in these matters are in opposition to Christ himself. They have already excommunicated themselves by thier actions and words. Every time they are allowed ti receive communion it is a sacrilage. Hurting themselves and whom ever allows them to receive. Polliticians have openly said this opposition, should be required to openly renounce this opposition and embrace the truth before being allowed to receive Jesus in Blessed sacrament.
Our Bishops whom are our shepards should be saying this the loudest. But for most of them there is nothing but silence. What a sad week leadership we have. I and my whole family pray for thier courage. Courage is what is needed in these time! God Bless u Fr Pravone for u are a true father in the truest sence of the word. You are not a hireling running off when the wolfs are comming!

When a man (or a woman) is in a powerful position, he believes-in most cases-that he is above everything and everybody and that includes God. It is called “the arrogance of power.”

Reflection: Ezekiel 33: Father Pavone is the Watchman! It is his duty to warn man, of his sins or mans sin will be upon Father Pavone own head. If Father Pavone did not love House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, her sins would be on his head, Father Pavone had to warn her!
    Sincerely Johnnie R. Maul
