STATEN ISLAND, NY – Priests for Life and its family of ministries will again be represented at the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. on Monday, Jan. 24.
Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, will march in the vanguard of the annual protest of the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy. With him will be the founders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign (a project of Priests for Life and Anglicans for Life), Janet Morana and Georgette Forney, as well as the founders of Rachel’s Vineyard (a ministry of Priests for Life), Dr. Theresa Burke and Kevin Burke. Sixty-five women and men who are part of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign will conclude the march by giving their testimony in front of the U.S. Supreme Court building.
“We come to Washington to point out that the American public does not embrace and never has embraced the Roe vs. Wade policy of abortion throughout pregnancy,” said Father Pavone. “Moreover, our fellow citizens are more aware than ever of the pain and regret that abortion brings. As a nation, we are ready to move away from abortion.”
Priests for Life was founded in 1991 as an outreach to Catholic priests, seminarians and lay leaders. While that remains central to its mission, Priests for Life also reaches out to the African-American and Latino communities, has a voice at the United Nations and, through its international office, spreads a pro-life message throughout the world.
Through Silent No More and Rachel’s Vineyard, Priests for Life demonstrates its commitment to the women and men who have been victimized by abortion. Rachel’s Vineyard is a healing program for those whose abortions have let them grief-ridden and unable to forgive themselves. Weekend healing retreats are held in 700 locations across the country and overseas. Visit www.rachelsvineyard.org for information.
The Silent No More Awareness Campaign invites women and men who have completed a healing program to publicly proclaim “I Regret My Abortion.” Visit www.silentnomoreawareness.org for information. Singer Kelly Clinger, a former backup vocalist for Britney Spears, is the celebrity spokeswoman for Silent No More. Read what she’s written about her own abortion experience, and her spiritual journey since then, on the Silent No More homepage.
Dr. Alveda King, full-time director of Priests for Life’s African-American outreach, also will give her testimony at the Supreme Court.
“The women and men of Silent No More are the irrefutable voice of the pro-life movement,” Mrs. Morana said. “Experience trumps rhetoric.”
