STATEN ISLAND, NY – Father Peter West, associate director of Priests for Life, will take part in Louisiana’s first-ever March for Life Saturday in Baton Rouge.
The March will begin at 10 a.m. at the Old State Capitol, 100 North Blvd. Sponsoring this inaugural event are the Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops/Justice Committee, the Knights of Columbus, Louisiana Right to Life, Louisiana Baptist Convention, Louisiana Family Forum and Louisiana’s Concerned Women for America.
“Louisiana is one of the most pro-life states in the country in terms of laws restricting abortion,” Father West said. “Priests for Life supports the pro-life community here and we wanted to be present at this historic event.”
A pro-life activist for 25 years, Father West was ordained for the Archdiocese of Newark in 1991. He spent almost seven years in pastoral ministry before being released by Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, who was then the leader of the Newark Archdiocese, to serve with Priests for Life.
Since joining Priests for Life on April 1, 1998, he has spoken to both priests and laity at more than 300 parishes throughout the United States.
Following the March for Life, Father West will lead a pro-life parish weekend at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, located at 4401 7th Street, Marrero. Call 504-341-9516 for the mass schedule.
