This weekend the Church celebrates the Epiphany, a feast marking the manifestation of Christ as the Savior for all nations. In “The Gospel of Life” John Paul II stated that human life itself is “a manifestation of God in the world, a sign of his presence, a trace of his glory”. In Christ, God reveals us to ourselves, and shows that the universal offer of God’s salvation extends to everyone, including those still in the womb. Let us pray for the epiphany that will give everyone the ability to see beyond the appearances of those who are smaller and weaker, and recognize them as equals. This is the epiphany most needed in this New Year, and one which flows directly from recognizing who Jesus is.
