“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you” — St Augustine.

Reflection: These famous words of St. Augustine remind us what the Church means by saying human life is “sacred.” God has made us for himself; as human persons, we are uniquely capable of having a relationship with God. Our lives are oriented to him as our final goal and fulfillment; hence we cannot be owned by others, manipulated, or discarded.

Prayer: Lord, I rejoice in my ability to relate to you, and I honor every human being as your own special possession. Amen.
