This reflection is taken from my book Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, which is available for purchase at: ProLifeReflectionsForEveryDay.org
“I must confess that I am not afraid of the word “tension.” I have earnestly opposed violent tension, but there is a type of constructive, nonviolent tension which is necessary for growth” (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Letter from Birmingham Jail, April 1963).
Reflection: Pro-life people likewise must not be afraid of “tension.” When there is the false peace of a society that has accommodated child-killing and the killing of the disabled and terminally ill, then the solution requires constructive tension.
Prayer: Lord, you brought about the tension of the cross and the tension of salvation. May your followers reject false peace and work for true justice. Amen.
