ONEIDA DAILY DISPATCH
January 5, 2001
Priest to share right to life message
ONEIDA - The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Our Lady No. 1250,
will meet Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m., in the Knights of Columbus Hall, Madison
Street.
Co-Chairwomen for refreshments will be Cheryl DeCastro and Cynthia Fallon.
After the business meeting, at 7:45 p.m., the Rev. Peter West, will speak on
the "Right To Life." West is a member of the "Priests For Life" organization
which is an official, non-profit Private Association of the Faithful under the
Canon Law of the Catholic Church.
It is a pro-life network of over 40,000 priests and deacons. Its mission is
to train and motivate the clergy to be more effectively pro-fife. West has been
a pro-life activist since 1986. He earned an M.A. degree in theology from Holy
Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Conn. and was ordained for the Archdiocese of
Newark. West was the founder and director of Amicus, a successful Catholic young
adult group for men and women in their 20's and 30's. He has been a teacher of
youth and a youth group leader. In his pastoral ministry he had preached
frequently on the topic of abortion.
He has been able to dissuade women from having abortions, and he has helped
women who have had abortions to find healing and peace. After almost seven years
in pastoral ministry, West was released by Archbishop McCarrick to serve with
Priests for Life.
West began his "Priests for Life" ministry on April 1, 1998. He began to
travel the country to "spread the Gospel of Life." On Jan. 9, he will be in
Oneida, as part of the Catholic Daughter meeting night.
All priests in the area are invited to attend. Members of the Knights of
Columbus and their wives are also invited.
Also on Wednesday, Jan., 10 from 9:35-10:15 p.m., Fr. West will be speaking
at St. Patrick's Church for the St. Patrick's School.
The public is invited to attend this program.
