STATEN ISLAND, N.,Y. - Rep. Michael Grimm, who has a pro-life voting record, met for the first time with Father Frank Pavone, national director, and staff at the Priests for Life headquarters in New Dorp on the afternoon of July 3.
“I’m a practicing Catholic and the thing that struck me the most, was the selfless way they worked with women who needed healing after making the decision to have an abortion,” Grimm said about the introductory meeting.
“We don’t hear about it much, but there are serious emotional issues that follow such a difficult decision. In addition to being activists for pro-life issues, I was very touched by the stories I heard and of the dedication of staff who reach out to community doing God’s work.”
PFL invited Grimm to visit for no particular reason and there were no requests made by either side, said Leslie Palma-Simoncek, director of communications for PFL.
“He’s pro-life and we’re pro-life, so it was just basically a meet-and-greet,” she said.
