Day of recollection
The
Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Apostolate, Staten Island, will host a day
of recollection and anniversary mass next weekend at the Society of St.
Paul/Alba House, in Meiers Corners.
The day of recollection will begin on June 5 at 8:15 a.m.
with a continental breakfast. The Rev.
Peter West of Priests for Life will lead conferences in the morning and
afternoon. The day also will include an 11 a.m. mass, exposition of the Blessed
Sacrament, recitation of the rosary, and the Divine Mercy Chaplet and
benediction.
Participants should bring their own lunches; coffee and tea
will be provided.
On June 6, the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, the apostolate will
sponsor its sixth anniversary mass. The mass will begin at 3 p.m. outside the
Alba House. The Rev. Frank Pavone, national director of the Dongan Hills-based
Priests for Life, will be the main celebrant.
The mass will conclude with solemn benediction and Corpus Christi procession
through the streets surrounding Alba House, weather permitting.
Father West has been a pro-life activist since 1986. He earned a master's
degree in theology from Holy Apostles Seminary in Cornwall, Conn., and was
ordained in the Archdiocese of Newark in 1991.
He was the founder of Amicus, a group
for Catholic young adults, and has experience working with
youth as a teacher and group leader. In his pastoral ministry, he
has
preached frequently on the topic of abortion, and has been directly involved
with helping to dissuade women from ending their pregnancies and helping women
who have had abortions find healing and peace.
He was released from the Newark Archdiocese, to concentrate on his pro-life
work, joining Priests for Life in April 1998.
