TITUSVILLE, FL – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today praised the Kentucky legislature for passing legislation to protect unborn babies from dismemberment abortions.

“No one would claim that a civilized society permits people to be torn limb from limb with impunity, yet that is exactly what we allow in most parts of the country,” said Fr. Pavone.  “Kentucky is joining the growing number of states that have decided enough is enough – that dismemberment abortion is cruel, barbaric, and has no place in a humane, caring culture.”

The Kentucky House has voted 75 to 13 to approve a bill that would stop abortionists from using a killing technique that “will result in the bodily dismemberment, crushing, or human vivisection of the unborn child.”  Pro-life Governor Matt Bevin is expected to sign the measure into law.

Fr. Pavone criticized sharply the comments of Kate Miller of the ACLU of Kentucky, who said, “Every pregnancy is different and we cannot presume to know all the circumstances a Kentucky woman is facing.” He responded: “Of course every pregnancy is different. So is every other experience that people have. But you never hear anyone say, Well every parent and child is different, so we should not presume to prohibit child abuse; every couple is different, so we should not ban spousal abuse. Seriously, why the blind spot to protecting children in the womb, despite the circumstances?”

“Just as our nation decided that partial-birth abortion was an intolerable assault on human dignity, so too will we conclude that dismemberment abortion – and all abortion – is incompatible with both compassion and the scientific realities of human life,” added Fr. Pavone.  “Kentuckians are fortunate to have in their legislature, and in the Governor’s office, public servants who know the difference between serving the public and killing the public.”
