Fr. Scott Daniels, OP, Priest Associate travelled to St. John Vianney Parish in Janesville, WI from from January 28-31, 2011.
The weekend was packed with activities. He presided over and preached at three weekend Masses. He also spoke to the High School students in religious education and gave a Pro-Life talk in the parish hall on Sunday afternoon.
He also gave a talk to over fifty people - representing Wisconsin Right to Life, the local area pregnancy crisis center and parishioners. He emphasized the need to articulate the Church’s long tradition of teaching regarding the corporeal and spiritual works of mercy and how these treat the whole person rather than the truncated notion of social justice with its emphasis on purely material needs. He also stressed that social justice is not true justice unless life itself is seen as the foundation of all rights.
On Monday before he left, Fr. Scott spoke with the seventh and eighth grade students of St. John Vianney School.
