A five-and-a-half hour flight delay caused by stormy weather delayed, but did not deter Fr. Denis Wilde from traveling from Philadelphia to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport in mid-August for a Pro-Life Parish Weekend in Joliet/Plainfield, Illinois.
After a late night dinner with trip coordinator Bill Gallagher on Friday, Fr. Denis was taken by the gracious Mr. Gallagher to St. Mary Immaculate Parish in Plainfield for a Prayer Breakfast. After the meal, about 220 reassembled in the parish hall to hear Bishop Daniel Conlon, followed by David Spasier of the Diocesan Life Office Board, who introduced Fr. Denis. After a well received talk, Fr. Denis led one of four breakout sessions, his being on the many features and resources at the Priests for Life website.
After the pro-life conference, Fr. Denis was the main celebrant at Mass. Later, he participated with 25 others in standing witness outside the large new Planned Parenthood clinic in Aurora. Fr. Denis then went to St. Paul’s Parish in Joliet where he celebrated the 4:30 Mass and preached at the three Sunday morning Masses as well. For Fr. Denis, it was a busy weekend, but one that was energized by the dedicated pro-life servants of Joliet and Plainfield.
