At the
State House |
|
|
Priests for Life does not
only influence national policy and legislation on
abortion, but does so at the state level too.
Pastoral Associate
Jim Pinto lives in Birmingham, Alabama, and one
of his many activities is to help carry out this
work together with the Alabama Christian Coalition
and many other activists. Here you see Jim at the
Alabama Statehouse, with legislators and
representatives of the Christian Coalition, lobbying
on behalf of a bill that will protect unborn victims
of violence.

Volunteers |
|
|
Along with our pastoral team, some of whose
nationwide travels you read about here on
Frontlines, and our large staff, we also have a
dedicated team of volunteers who serve our needs
at our various offices in New York, Washington
DC, Amarillo, Philadelphia, and Rome. In this
edition of Frontlines, I am happy to share with
you this
gallery of some of our New York
volunteers -- young and old alike. Thanks to
them, many of you receive our mailings, our
tapes and our brochures. |

Coretta Scott King |
|
| Together with our Associate
Director
Janet Morana, I attended memorial services for
Coretta Scott King at the end of January. I was able
to bless her body and greet her family, because one
of her family members,
Alveda King (pictured above), is on our pastoral
staff. Alveda led one of the prayers at the memorial
service, praising God as the giver of all life. As
speaker after speaker told the crowds that the
vision and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and
his wife Coretta must still be carried on, many of
us thought about what that means for the unborn. The
pro-life movement is indeed the civil rights
movement of our day. Justice and equality are
marching forward for the unborn. |

Silent No More in the "Abortion Capital" |
|
| The December issue of New York
Magazine called New York "The Abortion Capital of
America." Right in the midst of that "capital," the
women of the
Silent No More Awareness Campaign, a project of
Priests for Life and Anglicans for Life, bore public
witness, on the sidewalks, to the pain of their
abortions and to the healing power of the Gospel of
Christ. Janet Morana, our Associate Director,
co-founded this campaign along with Georgette
Forney, President of Anglicans for Life, and they
coordinate gatherings like this across America.

National Religious Broadcasters |
 |
| A highlight of February for me was
the annual, national convention of the National
Religious Broadcasters, held in Dallas, Texas. As a
member of this organization, I attend the conference
every year. Jerry Horn, our director of Media
Relations, was with me, and we announced our new
radio program, Life on the Line. We were, as usual,
very well received, and one of the few organizations
present that focus specifically on ending abortion. |
