February 3, 2000: Fr. Frank Pavone represented Priests for Life today at the National Prayer Breakfast, held at the Washington Hilton and Towers in Washington, DC. President and Mrs. Clinton, together with the Speaker of the House, members of the Senate and House of Representatives, and civic and religious leaders from around the nation and the world participated. Attendees heard readings from Scripture, religious music, speeches, and a special message from Pope John Paul II, which was read by Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, the Papal Nuncio to the United States. The Holy Father's letter referred to the protection of "every human being's inalienable right to life from conception until natural death" as "the great civil rights issue of our time."
