H.R. 147 – Prenatal Nondiscrimination (PRENDA) Act of 2017

The Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act would prohibit abortions based on the sex, gender, color, or race of the unborn child or the race of a parent of an unborn child. The measure also would make illegal the use of "force or the threat of force to intentionally injure or intimidate any person for the purpose of coercing a sex-selection or race-selection abortion."

In addition, H.R. 147 would bar the solicitation or acceptance of funds for the purpose of performing a sex-selection or race-selection abortion and would penalize the transportation of a woman into the United States or across state lines for the purpose of obtaining a sex-selection or race-selection abortion.

A version of the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act was introduced in the previous Congress as H.R. 4924.
