H.R. 1628 – American Health Care Act (ACHA) of 2017

H.R. 1628, the American Health Care Act (ACHA) amends the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (i.e. Obamacare). Its most important pro-life provision is that it would deny federal Medicaid funds to Planned Parenthood for one year.

Of Planned Parenthood’s $550 million in annual government funding, approximately $400 million come from federal Medicaid payments. The ACHA would eliminate this subsidy to the abortion business and redirect the money to community health centers which provide more comprehensive health care and do not perform abortions.

The ACHA would also prohibit the use of tax credits for health insurance plans that cover abortion. Under Obamacare, tax credits are used to purchase insurance coverage that includes abortions. H.R. 1628 would end this practice, saving taxpayers from having to pay for the termination of unborn lives in this way.
