Saint Thérèse - The Little Flower

MT 8:3-4

St Thomas Monastery,   Villanova University Campus,  Villanova, PA

THERE have been FEWER SAINTS...who have exerted such great influence upon Men & Women of our time than ST. THERESE OF LISIEUX...born in Alencon, France in 1873 ADSHE IS KNOWN as“THE LITTLE FLOWER”.   She entered the Lisieux Cloistered Carmel Convent at the at the early age of 16 and died at the age of 26.  Her two older Sisters Marie & Pauline had already entered Religious Life at the Lisieux Convent.  Her Sister Pauline entered the Sisters of the Visitation Convent at Caen one year later in 1886 AD.

IN WORLD WAR I she was known as the “Saint of the Trenches”...by both Sides...Allies & German! She never left the Cloister...yet the Catholic Church has designated her “Patroness of the Missions”. Only 17 Years after her Death, her book “Story of the Soul” was a best seller around the world.

WHAT IS IT that so enamored the Imagination and Imitation of so many people world-wide and so ....quickly?   It can be summed up in the word: “LITTLE.”  Her little Heart was actually...HUGE & filled with the LOVE of GOD...&  her short Life of 26 years was....expansive enough to include ALL of Mankind!

THE ONE DOCTRINE that SHINES forth throughout her entire Life is her Childlike Simplicity & Complete...&  total TRUST in God... as her Father in Heaven. Her Soul was riveted to God and Virtue...which she upheld all her Life by a deep Comprehension of the Mystery of the Cross.  She honored  the Triune God while also giving to Mary, her Heavenly Mother, her total Love as a Child.

SHE APPROACHED GOD.....just as a Little Child, when I trouble, runs  to its Mother and Father with a Heart filled with Humility and Trust.  She had strong Love for God the Father...& she called her approach to God her....“Little Way of Spiritual Childhood”.   She offered every thing she did....no matter how small...to please God & save Souls.

SHE WAS ALWAYS TRYING to Live in the Presence of God...& did so with the Love of a Child...Uncomplicated & without Guile.   Perhaps this is WHY Our Lord said in MT 18: 3-4...”Amen, I say to you unless you turn & become like little children...you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.  Therefore, whoever makes himself as lowly as this little child...is of Greatest Importance in the Kingdom of Heaven.”

MY “LITTLE QUEEN” as her Father often called her...has given to all generations a reminder that no matter how small....or un-important something may seem...whether it be a person, action....or an effort of the moment.....it can become a flower of Grace and Goodness...& offered up to an all Loving, Merciful & Compassionate...Fatherly God!

PERHAPS HER DAILY EFFORTS TO PLEASE GOD........IS THE REASON WHY GOD ALLOWED HER TO BE CANONIZED

SO SOON AFTER HER DEATH...SO THAT THE ENTIRE WORLD COULD FOLLOW

HER LITTLE WAY OF SPIRITUAL CHILDHOOD.
